Got a few minutes to spare and like a bit of WWII history?  Here's a link to the story of Maj. Greg Boyington commander of VF214, better known as "The Black Sheep"

He had 26 'kills' tying Eddie Rickenbacker Of WWI fame.  He grew up in St. Mary's ID and I was aware of his story since I was youngster in Elk River, ID only about 65 miles away.  In some ways he inspired my desire to become a Naval Aviator.

Addon Scenery and Enhancements / SIRP question?
« on: June 20, 2018, 12:44:49 PM »
both the old and new SIRP scenery are in the Scenery page.  I tried installing the new SIRP v3 and scewed up my sim quite a bit. Don't know it its because of both versions being in my scenery library or what.  Disabled the old version in the library but it didn't clear up my problems.  Any advice:

General Discussion / Cabins by the lake confusion??
« on: April 18, 2018, 09:44:56 AM »
OK trying to get caught up (again) with latest scenery for RTMM.  Cabins by the Lake has me fibberdigibbit!
At present I believe there are now 3 Cabins by the Lake in our scenery.  The dialog for the latest CBL says Brad's latest effort is V1.0 I'm confused if it is the same files as the original CBL with added cabins or completely new cabins scenery.  Therefore at present I have the original CBL, CBL V1 and CBL V2 in my scenery library.  Is this correct or does Brad's latest (V1) supersede the original CBL completely??

General Discussion / Teacher's Pet
« on: February 18, 2018, 10:23:13 AM »
On the first day of school, the children brought gifts for their teacher.

The super market manager's daughter brought the teacher a basket of assorted fruit.

The florist's son brought the teacher a bouquet of flowers.

The candy-store owner's daughter gave the teacher a pretty box of candy.

Then the liquor-store owner's son brought up a big, heavy box.
The teacher lifted it up and noticed that it was leaking a little bit.  She touched a drop of the liquid with her finger and tasted it.  "Is it wine?" she guessed. "No," the boy replied. She tasted another drop and asked, "Champagne?"

"No" said the boy, ... "It's a Puppy!"

Just ran across a photo of one of my old ships. U.S.S. Intrepid CV11. The occasion was a visit to NYC. Intrepid is now a floating museum in the city.
This photo was taken as we pulled into NYC with the crew AND news reporters that had come aboard to record the visit. They are spelling out "HI NYC" on the flight deck for the aerial photo. Reporters spell the "H".  I'm sort of fond of this shot as I was flying the photo plane that took it.

After some discussion about a RTMM scenery with Doug and others it occurred to me that for anyone looking for a excellent scenery D/L from RTMM the Owikeeno Lake scenery gives you 33 separate location in one download to explore/visit with A/C, boats, and with a good pair of boots you could walk with something like ORBX's old "BOB" utility.

Website Discussion / Search function question
« on: October 12, 2017, 01:42:34 PM »
I've been meaning to ask this question for lo these many years but it always seems to slip my mind after reading the great posts people leave on the site.
unless your in the 'forum' section there is no way to search for something.
Is it possible to include a search button in the scenery section so you don't have to return to 'forums' to search for scenery your interested in?
I have resorted to making a shortcut to the BWEP page as I can never fig. out how to bring it up without jumping through hoops like a trained dolphin.

Sheesh!  Been feverishly working on getting FSX backup and everything installed again.  Installs are proceeding OK but now I'm getting an "out of memory" error after a few min. of flying.  Can't seem to find the problem.  WIN 10 is so much more complicated than previous versions that trying to find things to check or modify is a monumental PITA.
I'm holding off getting RTMM scenery until I work it all out as I've been downloading and installing sim stuff   for the past week.  Including once again having to buy Tongass Fjords X (for the third time now!)
Well back to the old disable files in the Scenery Library and re-enable until I find the offending crap that is messing with my fragile ol' brain.

General Discussion / Tongass Fjord download location ALERT!
« on: September 03, 2017, 05:13:43 PM »
The link on the Home Page for Tongass Fjords X is no longer valid.  This link will take you to a location to purchase the scenery.

The other links work OK.

Additionally the correct name for Alaska scenery is Southern Alaska not southeast.

Bitch MODE ON:

The one thing I hate is updates I don't ask for and WINDOWS 10 is famous for doing just that!  Now I see that other folks are getting in on the act.  IE: AVG has decided that the RTMM Season Switcher is a virus.  It keeps deleting it every time I install it.
I just spent the last hour trying to figure out how to exclude the switcher from being marked as malware by AVG.  The newest version interface is just terrible IMO.  Finally, I believe found a way to exclude it from being deleted by AVG.  Oh for the old days when we just wandered around fat, dumb and happy and things were simple and straight forward.
Exclusion of a file should be a piece of cake not a dark area to discover helter skelter!

General Discussion / Info on ORBX/AeroFly simulator scenery
« on: April 29, 2017, 01:51:52 PM »
Just read this post on another simsite concerning the new intertwining of ORBX and AeroFly's new simulator.  I predict a slow demise of FSX scenery by ORBX if users jump on this new sim and don't mind opening their wallets yet again.

STEAM game $49,
Then pay for the OrbX stuff at 40% off, $24 a pop. Whereas the upcoming P3D 4; is supposed to be 64 bit, and JV has said there will be no charge for OrbX stuff already owned for it.
