Website Discussion / SSL Cert (Improved Security)
« on: June 15, 2019, 09:08:44 PM »
I'm adding an SSL cert to the site in order to boost our security profile a bit.   You may notice some "strangeness" with the forum and cookies while this happens. You will possibly have to reauthenticate after the upgrade is complete.

It should be done by tomorrow sometime.

Thanks for your understanding.

Website Discussion / Forum Cleanup
« on: March 17, 2018, 05:00:10 PM »
We've done a bit of housekeeping around the forum today.  There were a number of minimally-used categories (only a handful of posts in the past few years) that were adding a bit of clutter, so we cleaned things up a bit.  No posts were removed.

Here's a summary of the changes:

Misty Flying Club and Multi Player
  • Multi Player category was merged with Misty Flying Club category.
  • Posts from Multi Player were moved into the new "Misty Flying Club and Multi Player" category.

Addon Scenery and Enhancements
  • Enhancements category was combined with Addon Scenery.
  • Cambria Ice Fields was combined with Addon Scenery.
  • USFS Cabins was combined with Addon Scenery.
  • Posts from merged categories were moved into the new "Addon Scenery and Enhancements" category.

Hopefully that cleans some things up a bit.

Website Discussion / Possible Downtime Today

Just a FYI:  The servers are being upgraded on the back end today, so there may be some brief periods of downtime where the site is unavailable.

General Discussion / RTMM Voice Comm Server
« on: June 02, 2017, 07:36:53 PM »
Hello all.   I've had a Teamspeak server for a while now that's no longer really being used, so I thought I'd repurpose it for RTMM.

The renewal on it is on a couple of days, so I figured I'd float this out there and see if there's any interest in using it  (for multiplayer flights, troubleshooting, or just chatting).

First you'll need Teamspeak, which you can download here.

You can add a bookmark in Teamspeak from the menu bar, and enter your information like this:

Just thought I'd let you all know.  If you run into anyone abusing it, just send me a PM and I'll sort it out.  I'm not expecting it to get any major usage unless you all coordinate events or something.   ;D

Misty's Place / Cessna Caravan (New Jump Plane)
« on: May 26, 2017, 06:22:18 PM »
Went skydiving again today (no video of that, just did a Hop & Pop since I'm recovering from a shoulder injury) and I got some video of our new jump plane today, a Cessna Caravan.   Always fun to watch these pilots in action, they're pretty damn skilled.    I miss the Twin Otter that we had out there, but this plane is definitely fun to fly in.    Hmm.. Just realized, I've taken off in Caravans and Otters, but I've never landed in one...  :o

Website Discussion / YouTube Support
« on: March 02, 2016, 07:46:17 PM »
Recently when adding a video, I noticed there was no way to embed a video.     This is now fixed.  There's a "YouTube" button in the post tools now.  It should also just auto-embed YouTube links.

As requested, here are a few pics from my skydiving adventures.  ;D

Misty's Place / Twin Otter
« on: February 27, 2016, 09:27:55 PM »
The weather was beautiful for my skydives this weekend.  I grabbed this shot before we boarded for my next jump.  I love the Twin Otter.  ;D

I have some good take-off/landing video I have to sort through that I'll post if anyone's interested later on.

Website Discussion / Website Maintenance
« on: January 07, 2016, 05:33:40 PM »
There was an issue during forum maintenance, and I had to revert to a database backup from approximately 2 hours before this post's time-stamp.      I will have to troubleshoot further and attempt the maintenance at a future time.   Sorry for any lost posts, I'll be taking a backup immediately before I do maintenance next time.

(edit:  I will be updating some things behind the scenes to troubleshoot this, but it shouldn't effect anyone on the site.)

Object Libraries for RTMM / Moved Topic
« on: April 17, 2015, 08:31:16 PM »
I moved the sole topic in this thread over to the Add-On Scenery category (after discussing with Doug).   I will close this category down soon.

General Discussion / RTMM Search Now in Testing
« on: December 08, 2014, 08:00:14 PM »
Hey all!  I have added a new feature to the site that many folks were requesting (understandably so!).

We now have search capability on the site, utilizing Google's indexing of the site.  This should help you find things that you want throughout the site.   For instance, if those chopper pilots want to guarantee that a place will have a suitable landing pad, they can simply run a search for it.     Looking for docks?   You should be covered!   looking for beer recommendations?  .. well, that might not be in yet (but you can PM me for some, I have a number of ones that I enjoy ;) )

I have not put the search on the forum header yet, so please head over to the [main site] and note the search button in the top-right of the page.    Give it a click, and search for what you want.   Kick the tires for us, and let me know if you run into any issues.

Since this is Google-powered, we're kind of at the mercy of their results (which look to be pretty great as far as I can tell, and you never leave the RTMM site), however, there is one thing that I want to be completely transparent about.. As I noted on the search page itself:

We've always said that RTMM will remain ad-free and supported by donations, and I believe this is the way it should continue, but to leverage Google's search prowess we have no choice on the search results page.
We do NOT make money off those ads, they are google ads. (it's how they make their money an can provide free custom search utility like this)
To block ads, I suggest using one add-on for Google Chrome, or Firefox:

-- Chrome: AdBlock Plus
-- Firefox: AdBlock Plus

Edit: For those of you that don't mind if we had ads that supported us, and wanted to support the site, I added the donate link on the search page.  All donations go to covering hosting costs (we have improved our hosting plan in the last year, but it costs a bit more).   RTMM will always be free, but thanks for considering donating, and a big thank you to all that have donated in the past, we covered all costs in 2014!   :D
