Misty Flying Club and Multi Player / Thank you
« on: September 23, 2020, 10:50:56 PM »
As many of you already know, The Flying Club is a separate entity of RTMM although very much entwined.  But our expenses are our own and from time time to time members help out the cause with a donation.

This time Norm and I would Like to thank Bill Butler MFC105 for his generous donation to the Flying Club.  Every year hosting and domain costs increase, and donation from those that enjoy the activities of the club are extremely important.  Norm and I hope you will follow in Bill's footsteps and consider a donation. You can send either Norm or I a private email to get that started.

Again, both Norm and I as well as the entire Misty Moorings team thank you Bill Butler for your participation and your generous donation.

Misty Flying Club and Multi Player / Comments
« on: July 11, 2020, 10:11:20 PM »
Well another gremlin has raised its ugly head....comments are being processes but there is no content!  Strange but true.  Quite frankly I have no idea of what has caused this, but hopefully the up coming re-install of the base program and an overhaul of the data base will fix that.  In the mean time, enjoy your flights, all of the important basics are working fine.

unfortunately Top Pilot is a module that we purchased from a third party developer, who, for what ever reason has gone silent.  Over the years, Top Pilot has probably caused more problems than another program.  With no one to help and no code available, this program could end up being removed.

Of course the same can be said for kaCARS, here again, the developer just up and quit.  And again, we have no code, and no support.

Hopefully both programs will continue to keep working, but there is no guarantee that they will, and it very well maybe that they will have to be dropped or replaced.

Our base program is in the process of being updated, but this is a volunteer effort that has been in the upgrade stage for several years.  Worse, the program is barely able to function on the servers of "normal" companies as they just don't support programs that run on PHP v5.

We have several options including to move the Flying Club to a company that supports and is compatible with virtual airlines.

Norm and I are working hard on all of this, but progress is slow....and so are the pireps.  I can tell you they file properly, just slowly.  With that said, that is really the only problem...speed.  I am reluctant to make wild changes especially at this time and in fixing things, would end up breaking things...so expect progress...just slowly.  Thanks for your understanding.

Misty Flying Club and Multi Player / Re: Logbook
« on: May 19, 2020, 11:12:19 PM »
This one is a puzzle.  The database is correct and my logbook works fine although it took a while to populate.  I admit I have gone through the database running utilities one all files to make sure there aren't any errors and this might have messed something up but.....my last flight is correct and so are all the others.  My first suggestion is to open the logbook and then go have a cup of coffee....or something stronger....Give it 5 min and see what happens.

We aren't the only ones with problems, servers are upgrading...not good for us.  I am actually looking to see if there is a VA friendly host rather than the commercial server we are using now.

Progress seems like one step forward and two back...but working on it.

Misty Flying Club and Multi Player / Fixed.....maybe!
« on: May 07, 2020, 04:47:01 PM »
Well with fingers crossed, I think the problems of our bids is fixed.  Now mind you I have only tested a few flights from the schedules and from the Tour Center but in all cases you can bid the flight.  In addition, all the bids were present for flight in Cigar Box.

I am really sorry that this has taken as long as it has, but there is virtually no information available on the problem (s) so it was hours of reading code and moving files.  I hope the issues of the past are behind us and I thank all of you for you patience and understanding.

Please post any issues you find as I am not at all sure I have fixed everything.

Misty Flying Club and Multi Player / Update MFC
« on: April 30, 2020, 12:58:17 PM »
Hello to all,

I appears that the migration to the new server broke several links that are hard to find and introducing a slew on errors although most are not affecting the operational part of the site.

When we created MFC, we added a new module at that time allowing us to creat Tours that were a packaged group of flights that then could be bid....which really was noting more than a fancy way to populate Cigar Box. As the active pilots already know, the flight are still working and available by flight number.

At this time, I am suggesting that we revert to flying by flight number for all flights, and when you complete your tour, post in the forum (there is a space already) to let us know and receive your award.

By taking this plan we avoid shutting down while we figure out a solution.  There are some issues with the hosting platform and new software allowing a modest up date. So with this plan, we can test the update or even the new beta version of the software that is coming....just not soon.

Unfortunately there are life issues that prevent this from being a full time job, but please know we are working on the issues and while this suggestion isn't perfect, it is what we have always had in the past.  Hopefully this will be one step back and three steps forward.

Thank you for your understanding.

Har336,
Most folks aren't installing RTMM scenery via xml despite the fact that Lockheed Martin recommends this course of action.  As far as the layers it doesn't matter BUT you must create a dummy file to instal so that ORBX central can identity the correct file for the insertion point.  There is no doubt that this is the way to go, I just installed all of the RTMM scenery in less than 5 minutes.

Well Norm is correct, we are trying to fix the latest glitch which I think has been caused by the migration breaking some connections.  With that said, you should have not lost Cigar Box although I did overweight a few files.  I didn't expect that result, but at this point I am not surprised by anything.

I think we have the issue narrowed down, but of course as soon as I say that, it will go another direction.  The good news is that on the test site, all is well.  Reloading the entire module today.

Misty Flying Club and Multi Player / Cigar Box
« on: April 28, 2020, 03:11:54 PM »
Rather than reply to the reports of the errors going on with Cigar Box.....here is the latest.  Current thinking is that something has gone wrong with the core program.  You can still fly by flight number without any issues, you can file the Pirep and all is well.  This is just effecting the tour portion.

It seems like the Tour Center is generating the bids correctly and the Data Base is recording those bids and that's where they are staying.  This afternoon we will reload the core files and see if that takes care of things.  I don't think this problem is directly a result of the server issues earlier this month, but of course it could be.

As you may know, Cigar Box is no longer supported, so we will help that this doesn't prove to be the problem, but on the test site, all is well.

More later,

Henry

.xml in my opinion is the ONLY way to handle RTMM.  I have had to do two installations in the past week....v4.5 a do over and v5 which is a work in progress. But for those that are not into .xml, I loaded the entire RTMM library, Objects....everything in less than 5 min.  There just isn't another way.

Prepar3D-Version 5 / Re: VR in P3dv5

Just sold my vr5 as the resolution and the stutters were beyond awful.  Maybe they will get a handle on it in another year or so.

After loading v5 on day one my first impression was it was much better....better loading, better graphics, better direct.  Now are having "little" problems.  Bottom line, my 4.5 works very very well....advice might be dragging your feet on v5.  It will be there, just not now.  I am not interested in the HotFix for 4.5, really adds nothing and I would not even consider the proposed Microsoft offering.

And for what it is worth, version 5 has more than their fair share of troubles.  Looking at the v5 forums, several speculate that the release was premature, likely driven by the fact that lots of people are home.
