Title: Hi-tech 737
Post by: archangel1 on July 31, 2011, 01:28:09 AM
Have you guys seen this beauty? PMDG's 737 NGX, due to be released within the next week or so.  I've never seen such detail on a flightsim model.  It looks like every single switch and button in the cockpit is clickable or pressable and actually does something!  They even modelled fingerprints and dust on the monitors! The introduction video on the cockpit alone is over an hour long and he's just turning things on and off! This is also just the Beta model so I can't imagine what the release version is going to be like!  Guess it didn't hurt to have an official connection to Boeing during development.

As much as I love GA and bush flying, this is the one thing I'd like to try in flightsimming, even if I'm only able to do it once.  I have a couple of PMDG's FS9 aircraft, which are gorgeous, but due to circumstances mostly beyond my control, I was unable to spend the time learning to fly them and now my computer is too senile to even attempt it (it's 11 years old!).  With a powerful new system within reach and although I much prefer the older variants of the 737 (-200, -300, -400), this has 'Buy me!' written all over it.  It also doesn't hurt that it's my favourite airliner.  At least I can fly it in the PNW/PFJ area with prototypical Alaska Airlines livery (if I'm able to get it off the ground, that is!)!

Cheers,
Mike

Mike ... I still like flying a big one now and then. I take off from Savannah (my local big iron airport) and fly to Seattle then up to Ketchikan.  Like taking a real trip.  That is a very impressive video, I didn't have time to watch all of it and I had the sound down. I'm wondering if you have to throw every switch to make it "go" or if they kept the CTRL-E.  I bought one of their planes and it has never left the ground because I couldn't get rid of a "master warning" that locked it up so the engine wouldn't start.  But you can't ask for more detail ... that is really amazing.

There's a new takeoff video up today and without watching it through yet (50 minutes, so downloaded it for future viewing), it appears that you can at least start a flight as usual, on the runway and spooled up.  Still plenty of adjustments to make even in that state.  Don't know about Ctrl + E, though.  They haven't released anything from the manuals yet.  There's a good chance that the option will be available since almost every other flyable aircraft has it, as far as I know.  (Just checked the manual for the Xtreme Prototypes X-15-1, though.  Their quick start has 26 steps!)
