Title: MSFS not working any more
Post by: kaha on October 07, 2020, 05:45:28 PM
Wanted to make a flight tonight. After fiering it up the sim tells me to insert the game disk. But I purchased the MS Store version. Don't even have disks.

I don't bother. I will search the forums if this is a known thing that already happened to someone.

Do a pc shutdown..off.  then cold startup.

Try msfs2020..

If no start up then remove any add-ons that you have in your community folder---- take them out and put them elsewhere ie; in a community.OFF folder.

Delete your msfs2020 content.xml file in roaming.. .. ..

Start sim.. it will rebuild the content file.. and hopefully startup? If so, then it is one of your add-ons that was in the community folder killed the sim from starting up.

You may have an add-on that worked with 1.8.3.0 but doesn't work well with the updated 1.9.3.0 version/patch.

Hi Karl,

That problem usually shows up if one of these 3 things is true:

1.  No internet connection - MSFS needs to verify connection back to store at startup

2. Windows Time & Language settings are wonky.   The game must see your current location and time zone that matches the account you made the purchase with

3.  Anti virus has suddenly quarantined your executable.....if so, and you determine it was an error, you can exclude the executable from windows security

Thank you guys. Nothing helped. I saved my mods (including the ORBX Links), uninstalled the game and reinstalled it. Then put back the mods and now everything is fine again.

Thx,
Karl

Thank you Robert. Not sure what was the cause. It happened from one day to the other. During that period I did not make any changes to MSFS.

However, I made other changes and installations, mainly to P3D V5 and Steam related installations. I also did some uninstalls and reinstalls (like for the JustFlight new Vulcan version for P3D). This should of course never bother my MSFS installation.

It could of course be some flaw in MSFS itself. If so, Asobo will probably fix it anyway sometime.

Maybe if,everything is on the same mishaps can happen.

... Vulcan for P3D interesting.

Hi Karl,

Glad you got MSFS working again.  Re-installs are not uncommon at this point in the sim's life.  Luckily, the MSFS cloud seems to retain the user's custom settings.  I noticed in your video that you had the long splash screen videos showing up at the beginning of the MSFS start.  Is that your usual start up or was it just for trying to get your crippled MSFS to start?  There is a way to bypass the splash screens whether using Steam installation or Microsoft Store but it is a little different for each.

Rod, I normaly use the -FastLaunch parameter. For that test I did a normal start, though.

Thx,
Karl
