Title: ORBX True Earth Washington
Post by: kaha on May 22, 2020, 05:18:09 AM
Just released. Will it work with the RTMM sceneries?

Together with the TE release go various updates for freeware and payware airports in this region. For V5 I can tell it is:

OS9, 11S, 1S2, 1WA6, 2S1, 2W3, 3W5, 7WA3, KBVS, KCMW, KFHR, KHQM, KORS, KTIW, S43, S93, W16 and WA56.

Not all ORBX airports in the Washington area are V5 compatible yet, though. You won't even see them in ORBX central.

There is not much RTMM stuff in WA (There is the PNW Scenery collection piece which has some places in the very northern part) but wouldn't expect that they would conflict. TE actually looks a nice blend of LC plus a touch of photo real but have an eye notice that the TE WA product release announcement contains troubleshooting links?  Not a great sign.. just saying! but if you get it you can always yank it out or turn it off for the price. lol.

I do not own any of the TE products yet.
I fear my quite outdated flightsim PC will not handle TE scenery for good.

I‘m wondering if a TE scenery for PFJ and SAK area is planned by ORBX.......

The trouble shooting options provided at release are to help with some common problems that users have had with other new scenery installations such as having their sliders too far to the left.  It's also trying to provide a place to post any "known issues" which is a nice idea that I have not seen Orbx do before.

Actually TrueEarth Washington is all photoreal (ortho) terrain created from purchased aerial imagery except where Orbx hand annotated changes to adjust the original aerial imagery due to colors and other issues that can arise when blending together many different blocks of aerial imagery.  At 2,000 AGL it is beautiful.  Of course, when you get very close to ortho terrain imagery it does get blurry.  Here are two comparison pics showing the same area taken at 1,500 AGL:  First pic just has a land class region enabled (CRM in this case) and 2nd pic has TrueEarth US Washington enabled:

    Orbx Region enabled:

    Orbx TrueEarth US Washington enabled
    (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/1pkavl8b7wrx0da/S93%20TE%20US%20WA.jpg)

There is only summer season, but it is beautiful!

Rod,
the picture looks great!
But only summer.....so a TE south Alaska will probably not be really full experience.
For winter season there‘s still the old Orbx SAK needed for a nice experience?
I don‘t wanna fly only in summer season in RTMM areas........

Also, I‘m wondering how it will look from 200-500 ft AGL.....altitude I‘m flying with my helos.

I have been running True Earth Great Britain scenery for months in preparation for TE Washington so I understand the load on the system etc.    You can leave PNW running underneath it.  When you want to run a non-summer season, just turn off the 4 PNW scenery entries.

A few miles west of S93. Just flew the trip from Darrington to Concrete, WA.  Wow!  So much prettier than the regional implementation.  It was so nice to see the Sauk and then Sakit rivers continue in photorealistic beauty for the whole trip!

Just pity that its only one season. Ok 4 could be a problem - too many space on disc but I prefer winter textures also (so summer for spring/summer/autumn/winter and winter textures for hard winter). Pity that FTX didnt go this way.

The difference between an Orbx Region and True Earth is staggering even if non-seasonal.  I am not sure the reality of seeing a seasonal look is more important than seeing the towns, villages and surroundings.  See below for 3 pics that compare Real Life vs. FTX PNW Region vs. TrueEarth US Washington over La Conner, Wa.

All areas of TrueEarth Washington differ from reality and the old Orbx regions just like the pics show.   I love the fact that I can pick any city/town/village and it will be depicted in TrueEarth much closer to real life where the best PNW can do is reproduce elevations and some general land class but enough to even recognize the town.

Rod, your trees are of very light green color I see. Are you using Terra Flora V2?
Or is mine too dark?

Hi Karl,

I don't use Terra Flora...just Orbx HD Trees.  I forgot to mention that the pics I shot were in P3Dv4.  As you know the lighitng is much different in P3Dv5.  Your pic looks like P3Dv5 with EA turned on.  EA darkens most everything ...note the darker water in your pic.

I'm a little disappointed.  I installed TEW yesterday and being a Washington resident, I went to find my house.  The TEW mask doesn't go all the way to the Canadian border.  It stops just at my southern property line.  My neighbor is showing, but not my house.  I am about 15 miles south of the border.

Oh no Jeff!!   Wonder if JV will offer you a refund? cause they missed the coverage area of your house!? OR will they ask you to move out and go a bit south so you can be in TEW!!  lol. Oh man!!

I would like a hotfix to add the 15 mile wide strip of missing terrain across the northern edge.  A discount does seem to be in order, I think ...  ;D

It is a bummer to be just beyond the line!  Some additional info:

The introduction announcement of TE Washington included a Google kmz file that shows the exact borders of the scenery.  There is a missing strip all the way across the top of Washington as well as down its eastern border.  TE US Washington for P3D is a port of the XP11 version.  However, one of the big limitations of XP is that the ortho has to follow specific chunks by lat lines or something like that.  If it were originally built in P3D it could have been exact but a port has to live with the XP limitaion.  Orbx did not want to pay for a chunk of Canada because there aerial photo data is priced extremely high.
