Title: Introduction and some help
Post by: Maever on June 27, 2018, 04:25:53 AM
Hey guys,

My name is Maever I Live in The Netherlands and I'm 28 years old.
I have been flying for a couple of years now and recently got infected with the "bushflying bug". I normally use Flight Simulator Econy for my flights but after a google search I came out here and it looks really awesome!   ;D

But.... It is so overwhelming that I have no clue where to start or what to do. Do I need to join a VA? Do we fly single or only multiplayer? Do we use the dispatch page? Or do we earn virtual money to set up our own charter business?

Hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction and help me to enjoy this wonderfull part of the world  8).

I installed all the payware addons last night, tonight when I get home I will install the RTMM addons.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi and Welcome to RTMM!!!

First thing you need to do is install each of our object libraries. And don’t let the scope of our website intimidate you because we’ve been around for awhile and have helped other newcomers like you get off the ground.

So start here: http://www.return.mistymoorings.com/object_libraries_build/#links

Then ask for any help here and we will assist.

Have fun,

Brad

Welcome Maever and you caught the bush-flying bug and there is no-nicer, and more rugged place to fly bush than in the areas of Alaska, BC and Yukon. And a bonus flying here is the add-on RTMM scenery. There is many RTMM pieces that compliment ORBX and Tongass Fjords and the sim comes alive with activity as well as new place to explore.

What sim do you use?  (If P3Dv4x there are some necessary tweaks for Tongass etc- which can be found on the P3D V4+ Addons page - http://return.mistymoorings.com/getting_started/index.php#9 (http://return.mistymoorings.com/getting_started/index.php#9)  )

You can fly as much as you want and do what you want to do. No regs no pressure.. just have fun and enjoy the scenery and the sim.

Brad has started you off...  so you need the RTMM libraries and test them first and the rest sits on top of the Librarires.. and you can go from there.

There are NO tubes up here but once you have the scenery in you can fly to what extent you want:

There are RTMM FP,  dispatches, there many trips into various areas. (Most of the RTMM addon sceneries have flight plans to the locations).

If you want to fly in a VA of fying club - well only a few months ago we started a new bush RTMM-MFC VA.. (Misty Flying Club). Its just a place to fly to be able to monitor your own progress in flight plans, fly the RTMM tours and keep track of your flights, fight hours, # of flights but no heavy VA regs.

No jets/tubes at RTMM or MFC either.. Just Bush planes and/or Helicopters there!! but bush and lots of trips in the the rugged terrain and seeing lots of scenery.

There is a Discord server already set up for comms with other pilots.. and although no formal multi or group events yet, but a few of us do fly together the odd time when opportunity presents itself.

To start you need the RTMM scenery so refer to Brad's Link - http://www.return.mistymoorings.com/object_libraries_build/#links).. and go from there.

There is lots of info on these pages. Just go page by page and you'll get to all the items.
Welcome again Maever and please if you need any help just holler.

Norm

Thanks for the kind words guys!  I indeed use p3dv4 as my sim.

I just finished installing all the addons etc. I also tried a test flight some Misty's place to Hering Harbor, as I run out of mysty's place into the open water I run into some kind of invisible barrier. Does this has something to do with the elevation levels?
I checked out Hering Hardbor and this seemed to work just fine.

Is there also a way to download the complete package with scenery instead od downloading everything seperatly? (Like Musty's place and Hering Harbor for example.)

Is there also a VA here who uses dispatches? Like they would in real life? I would like to join as a pilot and the VA tells me where to fly to and what to bring or pick up there (mail, fisherman etc.)

Hope you guys get what I mean haha.

Hi Maever, and welcome to the forum.  We do not have an "all-in-one" installer for RTMM.  It is important for you to install each location individually, so that you are familiar with what you've got.  New scenery is created at probably half a dozen locations a year, and an installer would have to be updated each time someone submitted a new location.  Same for the libraries also.  So ... take your time, grab some locations, and go exploring.  There are over 300 at this point, I think.  You could also spend a day or two installing all locations in one sitting.  (that's how I do it.)  Start with Z and work up to A, if you care about alphabetical order.  Still, you should visit each location.

Can I find a map with all the locations on there?
Currently installing the scenery, almost at C haha  :o

Hi Maever and Welcome to RTMM!!! :)
Unfortunately, the map link posted by Norm above refers to the old version without "autoupdate" feature. You can always find the updated version here (http://forum.mistymoorings.com/index.php?topic=3457.0).

Hope this helps!

Hi Maever,
I, too, am installing EVERYTHING (but not "downloading", I've already done that.).  My OS SSD had issues, and I had to reinstall my Windows.  I also reinstalled P3Dv4, upgrading to v4.3 in the process.  I've got all Orbx, TFX, OzX, and the RTMM libraries behind me.  I've put Misty's Place and Annette Island in, as well as the Scenery Object Tester scene at PANT.  My Terrain.cfg block is good, ... no trees in the water.
Now I am ready to add all the missing cabins, USFS cabins, etc. etc. ... We all go through this from time to time, as fate sees fit.   ;D

Thanks for the help, this was indeed what I was looking for!
I downloaded all the .csv files for Plan G and couldn't help notice there are also alot of cabins in New Zealand. Did the RTTM Team also place them there?

@Jeff,

Haha then we both feel eachother's pain. Not a real fun thing to do but necessary.  :'(

"""notice there are also alot of cabins in New Zealand. Did the RTTM Team also place them there? """

No, these cabins/huts are part of the Orbx New Zealand (North /south) scenery.

Make sure you set your insertion points in FTX Central to keep things from moving around on you.

I put FTX below OZx_LIB, and openLC below Tongass_Fjords_Lower_Priority.
If you don't have OZx, then use your bottom-most RTMM scenery or library as the "base".  Load all RTMM locations above that one.
Mostly all third party locations will go above FTX also.  I've got TFX and African Airstrip Adventures below FTX, along with the openLC files.
Title: Re: Introduction and some help
Post by: Maever on July 02, 2018, 10:55:26 PM
I did read something about it and check it within FTX but I have no idea how this works or how to get it to work?
You can only select one scenery line right?
Title: Re: Introduction and some help
Post by: jeff3163 on July 02, 2018, 11:15:38 PM
Start FTX Central v3.3.0.6, and click on the "Settings" button in the lower left corner.  Click next to the insertion point line to browse a list of your scenery library for the approriate file.  The OZx etc. for the FTX entries to go below, and your Tongass_Fjords_lower for the openLC entries.   ;)

(I can't post a pic right now.  I'm flying an MFC leg right now)  My arms are killing me ... lol   ;D

Here ya go ...

It works!  :D

It made me kinda wondering, what did you guys use to place and make all those cabins everywhere?
The reason I ask is that I'm looking to build my own base of operations out here in Alaska.  8)

Mostly "Instant Scenery"is used for object placement (when updates are "up-to-date"), when used in conjunction with FSX or a compatible version of P3D.

Be aware that Instant Scenery is only compatible with FSX, FSXSE and versions of P3D prior to P3D 4.xxxx.        LM, in it's "wisdom", broke Instant Scenery with the introduction of P3D ver.4, and the developer no longer seems to support it.

Crap!! I'm using p3dv4  :'(

I should look into something simular I guess.

I also seem to have some problems with my tongass elevation files, for some reason I can't seem to find them anywhere on my comp  :-\

Hi Maever,

Tongass elevation files? ???  Why would you need those?  Trees in the water, maybe? ???

Did you edit your "terrain.cfg" to insert the TFX entries and increase the terrain count by 40? ???

... or do you have a different issue?

Unfortunately, there is nothing even close or similar in the way of simplicity, ease of use, or real time WISIWYG visual object placement as Instant Scenery is.

Most RTMM developers are running FSX or older versions of P3D for scenery creation with Instant Scenery.

Hey Jeff,

Problem I'm facing are some flying airfields and some houses as well haha. The houses don't really bug me but the airfield does.  :P
I will make some screens in the morning to show what it looks like within my sim.

@Ualani
I do own FSx:SE but I'm wondering if I make a scenery in FSX without orbx addons, does my building look the same in P3dv4?
Title: Re: Introduction and some help
Post by: ualani on July 05, 2018, 05:37:21 PM
Objects from our libraries work in all versions of FSX and P3D. However, if you place them while running FSXSE without ORBX addons, they won't appear in the same place in P3Dv4 with ORBX addons installed. You'd need to install your ORBX areas in FSXSE to have things be/look apples to apples. Hope this makes sense!

Here's what I do to still use Instant Scenery as a design tool. I keep an installation of FSX on my PC that is only used for creating scenery in with Instant Scenery. Then when it's ready to test, I install it in P3D to check how it works, looks, etc.

Of course having FSX and P3D installed on my system plus all the ORBX scenery regions, FTX Global, etc. can fill up the storage capacity real quick, but that's how I make things work. I do limit what I've installed into FSX. I'll only have one ORBX region or FTX Global installed and active depending on where I'm designing at. For the most part, I've been using this configuration since P3D arrived over five years ago.

Works for me.

Hmm that might work, I'm not sure if my "base building" justifies the price of buying instant scenery haha.

I'm not really planning on using it for any other project so far.

Decisions, decisions, decisions   ::) :P

Another stupid question haha  ::)

How does this misty flying club tour system works?
It looks great and I think it is a great way to discover Alaska right?
But I can't find anywhere how to join them or where to fly from and to.

Sorry for all my questions guys, everything looks so great  ;D ;D

Very easy Maever..

The website is: http://www.mistymooringsflyingclub.com/ (http://www.mistymooringsflyingclub.com/)

So go there and join up... (I'll approve you)...

When approved you will get a MFC pilot number. (Your # should be MFC0053 if you join today).

Then after a login on that site you will be able to see the flights, tours and downloads (Acars) and other features. (There is over 680 single RTMM flights.., 16 active tours that contain almost 200 legs.. and do keep building.. lots to cover in Alaska, BC and Yukon - (I have only barely started in this endeavor but in every trip, FP or excursion try to feature all of the RTMM scenery locations. So best to get all the scenery in and will try to lead all through it as we fly - and of course the trip itself in this ruggedness is interesting and bush en-route as we explore the actual locations of the scenery.

So far in the tours or excursions have only covered a portion from Ketchikan/vicinity up to Petersburg.. but will eventually, over the next few decades..lol will hopefully will be able to cover all these lands. lol. So if this might be your interest you're in the right place (and lots of help here to get you in the RTMM skies).

No problem at all sir and pilot approved. (MFC0053). Now when you login you will have access. Take a look around. Download "Cigar Box" (kACARS*) from the Downloads section. (*This is the flight recording/reporting system for all your flights).

In the downloads you will also see the RTMM Flight plans (single flight legs) as well as downloads for the tours: (Each tour has it's own download with that tour's brief, flight legs and flight plans).

Anyways not hard to set up and fly. Just have fun and will see you in the air!!

Hmmm ... what was this thread about?  What is the topic of discussion that is taking place here?  This thread is all over the place, and I can't really nail it down.

I don't know about elevation files for TFX, but you have to install it in a specific way.  There are threads about installing TFX in the forum.  Have you read those yet?

Please, if you can't find the answer already posted in our forum pages, start a thread in the appropriate section, specific to your issue.  That way it can be referenced in the future to help someone else.  This thread contains several topics.  The title is non-descriptive, which also doesn't help.
