Title: RTMM Map for Google Earth (KMZ)

In case you haven't noticed yet, Google Earth KMZ map for RTMM has been updated. The good news is you don't need to re-download the map on each update: new or updated locations will be delivered to you instantly, as soon as you open RTMM4GE.kmz in Google Earth, each time getting more locations to explore in the vast RTMM wilderness... :)

Well, it depends... I usually check against the NOTAM page to see how many new items are in the 'pool'. Before I used to update the KMZ with every new RTMM release but... I had to bother Doug with every update too since he is my 'contact person' when it comes to public release. Plus my real life duties... So, now I basically wait until at least 5-6 new addons are available and then update the file.

No problem, Tom! You don't need to install the KMZ file. Instead download and install Google Earth (https://www.google.com/earth/download/gep/agree.html) and open KMZ with it. That's it!

I've also included a readme PDF file with instructions on how to use the map and select individual RTMM locations depending on where you want to Return at Misty Moorings... (pun intended) ;)

Something is wrong with this file (no tree in folder)? No problems with FTX kmz as You see.

Clicking on the RTMM4GE.kmz file goes down a level, showing only a doc.kml file. Clicking on that file opens GE, but no information is shown. The Return to Misty Moorings line in my "Temporary Places" has nothing under it. ;)

My GE has gotten hosed over the years...duplicates and triplicates, and trying to unclick areas from a very extensive tree isn't doing the job. I'd like to start from scratch. So my question is, what exactly does this update file cover? For instance, I've got KMZ's of:

CIRP
Misty Moorings
ORBX Regions
FTX PFJ (and a PFJ Coverage SP1), SAK, and PNW.

Do I still need those or does this file cover those areas?

Hi jsapair,

RTMM4GE map covers all published RTMM locations/sceneries, including CIRP and the recently released Cabins by the Lakes II, and is updated regularly. Since RTMM sceneries are "sitting" inside Orbx regions (plus Tongass Fjords), I've added them to the map as boundaries (no Orbx airports to avoid clutter and duplication). So, basically, the map will show you Orbx and Tongass boundaries for orientation so that you know which Orbx region (PNW, PFJ, SAK, and/or TFX) you need to fly to/from a particular RTMM location.

In addition, the map contains detailed info and links (flight maps, Snow Dogs and BWEP routes, images, wiki data, etc.) about RTMM stuff, similar to what you can find on this website. But you can always add layer(s) from other KMZ files (e.g. Orbx airports) in your Google Earth session, if for instance you're planning to fly to/from a particular Orbx airport to/from RTMM location.

Don't DL the map from H2T - it's probably the old file without the "auto-update" feature. I'd recommend you check the original post (http://forum.mistymoorings.com/index.php?msg=30172) for future updates. The DL link is also there.

I've just downloaded the zip file from the original post, extracted and opened the KMZ map in GE. It works as it should... Do you mean you don't you see the following in your GE?

Post by: jsapair on April 11, 2018, 07:18:49 PM: I got it. The key was double-clicking the .kmz in the unzipped file (after reading the directions). I was opening GE Pro and using File/Open and navigating to it. That doesn't work for whatever reason. It's in there now.
