I'm thinking I have a corrupt fsx.exe :'( can anyone help me by sending a good one ::) or let me know what else to do :(. Thanks
John
-
Hi John,
I wouldn't think the executable is corrupt. More likely a flight file is corrupt. Rename your FSX.cfg to FSX.cfg.off, and see if the sim starts. It will rebuild a new FSX.cfg file. ;)
-
Thanks Jeff ;) I'll give it a try ::)

Can also be a corrupt logbook. Do a google search on that topic. I used to have a utility that would repair it, but it went into the ether some time ago.

It says the faulting module is "UI.dll". Do a Google search for "Fault Module Name: ui.dll"
-
Jeff, I read a few forums about UI.dll. Wonder if you could send me a good copy of it? It's in the root folder, if you still have Acceleration. Hoping that might work :-\

Hi John,
Check your messages. I've sent you a link. Let me know if it works for you.

Hi John
What operating system are you using. I hope Jeff's ui works for you if not try reseating your memory boards I am trying to find out about the Exception Code: c0000005 / Exception Offset: 0003c963 and decode the offset part to see what is going on. The exception code would suggest a memory problem the exception possible being the actual location its trying to use.
Nb. I'm was not a computer engineer but was a network engineer on mobile and fixed line telephone exchanges so have a bit of an intrest in decoding these error messages for old time 's sake

Read this.

Avsim has a great CTD forum that you can browse
https://www.avsim.com/forums/forum/262-crash-to-desktop-ctd-forum/
They also have a downloadable CTD troubleshooting guide

I'm using Win7 64 bit....Jeffs ui didn't help :'( Thank you for your interest ;D
John
-
Thanks Steve, I'll read up on it more 8)
Jeff, your file didn't help :( thanks for trying ;D
John
-
Yep, I didn't think anything was wrong with the file. Something caused it to crash. Need to find out what that "something" is. Find out what UI.dll does, exactly. What were you doing before the problem showed up? ???
-
Hi Jeff, been trying to remember but it's been a few days since last flight :( hard to pull that stuff up again :'(
guess I'll have to try a repair, hope not a reinstall ::)
John
-
Ok. Good luck with the repair. ;) A repair should fix it. Let's hope so. Did you go through the links Steve posted about FSX CTD? ???
-
Yes, I did a lot of reading and watched a few videos on YouTube :D experimented a little but still can't figure things out >:(
John
-
Did you try the logbook repair that I suggested?
-
John,
remember that a repair will delete all the ORBX FTX Global Base textures and replace them with the FSX Default texture. You will need to re-install FTX Global Base after the repair.
One more thing if you have Acceleration installed that needs to be de-installed before the repair and re-installed afterwards.
Nothing is simple with M$!
-
Steve, logbook was ok, thanks 8)
Spud, I remembered the texture thing ;D but didn't do Acceleration ::) maybe that's why repair didn't work ??? will redo :(

Have you tried to run fsx, with the pc in safe mode.
also have you reseated your ram [ unlikely but possible ].
install and run ccleaner to clean the registry. Take back up of registry
-
Lipra
Never thought about running in safe mode ??? ram is good ;D I have ccleaner and clean registry on regular basis ;) my redo of repair seemed to work, did short flight last night and seemed all ok 8)
Thanks to all with input ;D ;D

Glad you got that fixed. It's great when a problem is fixed.
-
Yay! Glad you got it fixed, and are flying again. 8) :)

This is a rather extensive thread, but it might point you in the right direction.

can you get a edge connector cleaning pad from your local computer shop and double clean and re-seat the memory chips. Not sure if windows 7 has memory check tool but you could try that it may show a problem. if you are still having problems then swap around your memory chips and see if the problem changes. you could also clean and re-seat your graphics card.
If possible can you borrow a couple of memory chips and substitute.
check the hard disk for errors
-
Edge connector cleaning pad? I've always used the eraser from a No.2 pencil. ;)
-
I would think that if he is having a memory chip issue it would affect a lot more things than just FSX and would crash all kinds of other programs. Generally a faulty memory chip will cause a BSOD.
-
Hi all, I am having problems with other programs :o I'll fiddle with the memory chips when I get a chance, thanks ;)

Good shout Jeff ,We used to use an ink rubber, If you use the cleaning pad [also] it cleans the contacts as well as the edge connector and you should not damage anything.
-
John
Have you had any luck with this
-
Hi Lipra,
No luck, sorry to say. Think I'll have to take it to an "expert", some of my startup programs do not always load and my Carbonite online backup hasn't backed up anything since Dec 9th :o. So I think Win7 is giving me grief also :-\ and I don't know anything about fixing that ::). Thanks and Happy New Year!!

You can repair Win 7 from the install disc.
https://www.pcworld.com/article/243190/how_to_repair_a_corrupt_windows_7_installation.html
-
Thanks for the link, Sue. Good info there but it didn't repair my kernelbase.dll problem >:(
John

did a Google and came up with this:-
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/kernelbasedll-has-caused-my-applications-to-stop/b7e4738e-2f16-4a92-b00b-bc7c2dd50ce8?auth=1
at your own risk try
Step 1: You can try reregistering kernelbase.dll and check.
a. Click Start and type cmd in start search. Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
b. Type "regsvr32 KERNELBASE.dll" without the quotes and Press Enter.
c. Restart your computer and check.
Step 2:System File Checker [SFC]
If still you are facing the issue, then you can try running a System File Checker [SFC] scan on the computer which will replace the missing or corrupt files & check if the issue persists.
