Title: Congrats!!
Post by: BeaverDriver on January 29, 2011, 08:57:06 AM
Congrats on the new site and a spectacular piece (very LARGE piece  ;D) of work here, and on an excellent new website. I can't wait to get flying in this area. Thanks very, very much for your hard work (which is indeed, considerable!) and dedication. It's very, very much appreciated.

Glenn (a.k.a. BeaverDriver, and yes, I really did "drive" real Beavers at one time  ;) )

I'd like to add my two cent and wish your folks a great future.  This work takes a lot out of a guy's life and the reward is seeing the rest of us taking advantage of it.  I do a lot of organizational work for my virtual airline and have managed to interject a lot of bush flying into special projects.  It always feels good to see pilots show up and fly with me.  Congratulations to all who have worked on this project.  Well Done!!!!!

One quick question----what do those clock face like signs mean on the river bank at Misty's.   Could they mean " No Spandex" ?? .    ;)

Oh no, it's contagious  :o. These poor people here! Little do they know what's coming  ;)

On another note, got up to Khutzeymateen yesterday and Elliot Lake Fire Base today. Man, nice stuff!!! This is really good.

Glenn,

I'm not too sure you should be walking around in spandex at Khutzeymateen with all those trigger happy security guards there. They're going to either take a potshot at you or invite you up to their quarters for some closer inspections.

LOL!!  ;)

Those signs at Misty's are for our amphibious aircraft friends to use if there isn't any space left at the floatplane docks. You can water taxi up the streams and then sink your landing gear into the water, pull up to the land between the signs, give her some power and you should be able to climb out of the water and up onto the land. Then find yourself a parking spot and come on inside for a little visit. On departure, just reverse the process or take off from the dirt airstrip.

I'm more afraid of the latter than the former! After all, Superman wore Spandex (sort of) and the bullets just bounced off him  ;). I suspect the "awe" factor will be so great anyway that they'll forget they even have guns <LOL>!

Glenn,
speaking of guns, did you ever notice in the old TV Series that Superman just stood there and let the bullets bounce off his chest but when the gun was empty and the bad guy threw it at Superman 'the man of steel' always ducked?  Bullets no sweat, but a nasty ol' thrown gun might hurt! (or tear his Spandex).

And by the way Glenn, I have it on excellent authority that your Spandex isn't blue or have a big S on the front.

ROTFLMAO - Yeah, the bullets won't hurt him, but a gun thrown at him sure will!! Gotta love that!

Well, maybe not blue, but lots of people have suggested I have a "big red 'ess'" (I think it was 'ess') somewhere  :P :o

Well I think we veered off course enough on that subject. So lets move on and keep ourselves focused on the "Bush" and not what we're wearing anymore. Okay?

Simple solution.

Thanks for everyone's cooperation.

G'day,

May I ask why some posts were censured from this thread?

After my post of February 03, 2011, 07:05:12, to wit:

Just thought I'd drop by and tell everyone that I have discovered some old photographs of Glenn that may interest you.  Some are quite colorful indeed.  I'm not sure that I should post them here, though.  (http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/tt96/pivo11/Faces/devil.gif)

Ta,
Fritz

There was at one time a reply by Brad that said: "I'll ban you if you don't", or something like that in response to the ongoing banter.    Where is that post now?

After that missing post, I posted a greeting to some friends from other forums and closed with the line: Glenn.  Your costumes are ready.  Where is that post?

And anyway I call your attention to to this:

No actually I'm happy to see the old escapades reviving again! We need more of these shenanigans!

I love it!

So.  What's happening?

I shall break all the rules once my tutu gets back from the cleaners.

Ta,
Fritz

No censoring going on here.  The only thing put in was the "spoiler" link that expands to show pics.

If someone removed anything, they did it on their own accord.

Calm down people, don't get the pitchforks out yet, sheesh. ;)

(and in all seriousness though, are pics of fat bellies in spandex really needed on a flightsim forum?)
Title: Re: Congrats!!
Post by: BeaverDriver on February 04, 2011, 01:28:09 PM
OK, before this gets carried away here, I will say I never noticed those posts Fritz is referring to as having been gone (of course, I've been living in a fog the past couple of days (centuries  ;D)). I guess that would be a concern, but yeah, we are off topic so I suppose Dan has a point.

Truth is, this little band originates from Bushpounder and we've been giving each other the gears there pretty regularly for a long time. We are all very long time, very good friends so none of us take any of this seriously (anyone who thinks this ex RW bush pilot really DOES; or CAN; wear Spandex, wins a free, all expenses paid stay in "The Home" for an extended period <LOL>). The problem is, it's migrated over here and for folks coming from other points (i.e. the "sane" part of the world ;D), it all might sound a bit vicious or vindictive, and yeah, they'd probably be wondering what in hell they had stumbled into here and go running for the hills. It would be a misconception, but an understandable one.

So, what say we continue to fool around, but more about FS stuff and not about spandex. And Dusty, you really need to keep the pics behind locked doors because I'd hate for everyone to end up with an inferiority complex after seeing me in Spandex (sheesh, now I'm dellusional!) . And as for Fritz's tutu, well, let's just that one die on the spot (PUULLLEEEEEESSEEE  :o ;D ).

Sound ok by all? I'm ok with it  ;)

PS Dan - I too have noticed one of my posts have disappeared. If it's not being removed intentionally, there may be a problem with the site holding threads, so you may have to have a gander at that just in case. I'd hate to think I really am loosing my mind (I am, but I'd hate to think it)  :P :o ::) :o .
Title: Re: Congrats!!

I will say this Dan,
Fritz, Glenn, and Don and I have been hangin round for a while together. That happens to be in another flight sim forum known as Bushpounders. Yes, we do post pics from time to time, nothing vulgar. I am a bit confused as to your comment..."and in all seriousness though, are pics of fat bellies in spandex really needed on a flightsim forum"?

Really?

We are all grown men. We also like to let our hair (in some cases...very little up top) down & have fun bantering back & forth. We never had/have to explain ourselves to one another. Not sure why we gotta explain ourselves here?

I joined here because of the site & what I thought it stood for. A nice place to fellowship with friends both from our past & friends yet to meet. I was not aware of the missing posts (thank you Fritz). I still have yet to look. Why bother?

I am a retired police officer. I can assure you, I am not easily offended. I do have a dark humor as a result of all the evil things I have seen man do to one another (it's a coping mechanism), not shared on any public forums or any public venues, as most people do not understand that kind of humor. I am kinda shocked we need to explain ourselves here and have to "feel funny" for us just being us.

Yeah, that someone who removed something(s) appears to be forum personnel.
Folks here I believe are smart enough to put 2 + 2 together. If that is NOT how "it" is...by all means explain. Or is that for us lowly forum members to have to do all the explaining?
Title: Re: Congrats!!
Post by: Bradallen43 on February 04, 2011, 01:48:18 PM
I agree with BeaverDriver's post. Let's move on from this and realize that we're in a new forum here and still getting our feet wet. We're not even a week old yet so people are all excited about the new place and all that stuff.

I understand the fun nature'd ribbing that goes on in forums, and God knows I prefer that any day over the flaming and bashing that also rears it's ugly head in various forums that I've been in before.

I removed my posts from this forum. Why you may ask? Well, I guess I felt that my participation in the direction the post was migrating towards might have been improper for one of the staff members to take part in. So, I pulled them.

Is that the right thing to do? In hindsight, no, it's not. But, I felt that way at the time I did it so, it is what it is. Now, on that subject, there wasn't any nudity in the images shared, and I wanted to see them, so, I was probably the catalyst that suggested that they be posted here. So if anybody should be sat in the corner, it's me.  :-[

Anyway, this was a positive experience and I'll tell you why. I think we should create a forum where anything goes as long as it's in good taste and can be posted without breaking any laws. No copyrighted property, nudity or profanity mind you, but stuff that was in this message previously would be fine there. It can be off topic, so you can talk about anything you want in here.

A community of simmers such as we are has a lot of diversity, creativity and energy within and having a place to discuss our hobbies and other shared interests is something I want to participate in. So, I'm going to ask Dan to set us up with a forum where the mic is open and the Koolaid is spiked with some of "Dusty's" secret mix.

How's that sound to everyone?

Brad

Brad,

Pull up a log partner, were gonna have us a good time, bush style. Dusty will stoke the fire in the cabin & well share some good times.

Thank you for explaining & your understanding.
Title: Re: Congrats!!
Post by: Dan on February 04, 2011, 02:02:57 PM
Oh boy, let's not go down this road already... First, I'd never ban without warning (and no, this banter between friends wasn't ban-worthy), and as I mentioned in your post, I already added spoiler tags to hide the images.  So, post at will!  If people want to see the funny pics, they can expand the spoiler tag (usable by the "radioactive icon" in the post editor).

Additionally, I did not remove any posts.  As I stated, if something was removed, it was done by the author themselves.    No conspiracy there, I assure you.  I know very well that removing posts can enrage even the most timid of forum visitors.

Or is that for us lowly forum members to have to do all the explaining?
Alright, no need for the condescending tone, as this couldn't be further from the truth.

Let's get something straight here.  I don't work with the scenery, I don't run it, I don't even have a flight sim installed on my new rig at home yet.   I just design the site, install its functionality and keep it all running smoothly (hopefully!).  I also spend time helping people when they send me questions and issues or need other assistance (and yes, they do need help and I'm happy to assist).     I spent a very large amount of my personal free time helping my father (Doug) get this site up and running, and for it to be a fun and enjoyable place for everyone coming to it.

I've run a number forums in my time, this ain't my first rodeo, and I'm quite experienced in dealing with allowable vs. offending content.    As my good developer friend once said, when I was setting up my first forum back in the day:
Quote
"Running a forum on the internet is like trying to herd a bunch of rabid monkeys with their tails on fire."
It's really not far from the truth.   You're never going to please everyone, and an admin needs to embrace that fact the moment you create your first discussion area.

At no point was it ever suggested that you guys quit giving each other a hard time, razzing each other with inside jokes, etc..  It was quite apparent that you guys are friends from elsewhere and this wasn't some sort of aggressive behavior.

Relax folks, I'm not out to get you.   Apparently this small crowd has already painted an "oppressor" target on my back, and I'm really not sure why.   I go out of my way to make this place useful/enjoyable for all, and wish to keep it that way.

Thanks for understanding.

Dusty,

We're all good. And if we don't actually get a place to talk about anything under the sun, it's still likely that we will all have a good time getting to know one another here at Misty's Place.

I love seeing all the old and new faces coming together in our little world. Makes me smile and to be honest, it's a little humbling. I wish I would've spent more time in my FS9 days at Misty and I missed out completely on Emma. Never got to meet that lassie. I bet she was a sweet lady though because everybody speaks so highly of that experience.

I hope we catch just a little of that lightning in a bottle here. You can never bring back "Emma" as it was, but having some of that comradeship here, now that would be an exceptional achievement I'd be very proud of.

Okay, enough on this. Back to my ferry flight in FSEconomy. I gotta get my bird to "Misty's" I'm missing out on all the fun.

"Running a forum on the internet is like trying to herd a bunch of rabid monkeys with their tails on fire."

Alright, you guys are picking on me again. My tail is NOT on fire <ROTFLMAO>!!

Yeah, I think this is just growing pains here and nothing more. Dan makes very good points and I agree with him (except my tail isn't on fire! ;D ). Brad I think, really calmed the waters very well. Fritz and I spoke out of turn when we said posts had been removed - they are actually in another forum - our bad (I wish I could remember what the worst thing about getting old was, but the second thing is repeating yourself. I wish I could remember what the worst thing about getting old was, but the second thing is repeating yourself.). It typically takes people a while to get used to our sense of humour (Don is still undergoing treatment, but dammit, he started the whole thing  ;D), and I think our little group needs to remember that. Brad's comments about this being far and away better than the flames that go on in other forums is dead on the money though. In all my years at Don's, I don't think I've seen a single flame attack, and that time is measured in years. At some forums I've been to, the time for the first flame is measured in seconds  :o. Make no mistake, we've had the odd misunderstanding and disagreement, but when those happen we hash the out in professional, courteous manner and we all remain friends without embarrassing ourselves or driving away other potential joinees (which reminds me Dusty, no, NASA did NOT ask if they could use the space between my ears to train astronauts on how to operate in a complete vacuum!! Sheesh  >:(  ;D ).

I agree with Brad. All is good and I think we just move forward from here, keeping things up front and fun-filled, but most of all, keep the banter mature and on a high level (ok, wait for it....   ::)...).

What is obvious, in all seriousness (and you won't hear those last 3 words from me too often!), is that we have extremely good forum moderators and designers here. They are weathering the growing pains (not to mention, "US") extremely well, and we now know we (the forum groupies) can trust them and we can have fun with them. That's worth a lot these days. Kudos guys.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled mayhem  :D

That's hilarious!! And so true. Well, we now have a place for any off topic banter, spandex discussions, etc. Please go visit "Misty's Place" in the forums which Dan has been kind enough to dust off for us. Please read the rules that we need to remember. You don't want to get "Big Buck" on you. He's not too smart but he keeps things in order nicely around here. Thanks for the kind words on the site, and for everyone's understanding.  Our main goal is definitely to make a place for everyone to have fun and enjoy, so I'm glad we're all on the same page.    Enjoy Misty's Place, I hear the Pontoon Pale Ale is good stuff, not that I know from excessive experience or anything.   :o

Gentlemen,

I fear this is all my fault.  I made two threads into one, (as Glenn pointed out), and got all churned up.  I apologise for being a fool, and for getting all bristly.  The only post that went astray was Brad's, as he said, and I went right 'round the bend, I'm afraid.  But I was reasonably polite about it, I think, just wrong.  Well, thanks to Brad and Dan for being such good monkey herders and sorry again to all for falling at the start.

Sigh,
Fritz

No monkeys were hurt during the making of this docudrama.
