Title: File Extensions...What's Up With This?
Post by: jsapair on October 24, 2014, 09:59:25 PM
Tried to upload a flight plan in the .pln format. You won't accept it. Looks to me like Plan-G 3.1 saves in .pln or .plg, not .png which is what you guys seem to require. What's up with that? I sure don't see how to save a flight plan in .png format. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but it seems to me that if you embrace Plan-G 3.1 you should facilitate the ease of the features of that program. I'm sure you have a reason for not accepting .pln or .plg files but I'd sure like to know why. Or, tell me how to convert my .pln files to .png files in Plan-G 3.1. I sure don't see the option on my end.

All our flight plan files should be FSX "pln" files...unless there's an error somewhere. A Plan G format could slip in because that's how we make the original plans, but we export them from Plan G to FSX format and save in "pln" format. We don't use the Plan G format because some folks don't have Plan G.  PNG is an acronym for Portable Network Graphic, it's a picture file. When you say we don't accept it,what are you trying to upload it to?  I get confused easily on Friday nights! :-) Help me understand.

Doug, what I did was extend the flight plan from the Glacial Tour from PAKT to Summit Ice Station to include Stewart, Wilson Landing Lodge and finally, Misty's. Plan-G saves that addition in a .pln or .plg format. This is solely an upload issue. I wanted to upload that new flight plan to RTMM but it won't accept my .pln file format. The error message when I try to upload says you will only accept .png files. Plan-G doesn't give me the option to save my files as .png. Only .pln or .plg. That's my problem.

jsapair,
actually you should zip up the plan and then submit it to Brad for inclusion on the site after it is checked out.  That way it will correct for users.

Ok..gotcha'now!!! Spud has it correct. You have to zip it.  You'll notice when they come "down" to you they are zipped. That's just the nature of the gadget. Export it in pln format to your desktop, then"send it to" a compressed file, which zips it.  You can change the name of that zipped file if you want, save the new name, then you can upload it and it should work fine. I thought about that all night trying to figure out what you were trying to do...like I said ...Friday nights...:-)

By the way...this is a "dispatch" you  are creating...a multiple location trip tic. We could take the wording from the ice station trip tic to Summit, already done, move it over to a dispatch template, then add wording for the new legs. That would be a great dispatch. Shoot it to me in the email, and I'll work on the dispatch, then Spud will QC check it and we'll put it up for our troops.

Thanks, guys. Looking back on my post I see where that might be construed as overly aggressive and I apologize for that. Demon Rum had me in its grip. Ah, Zip file...got it. I'm dealing with Global and Vector at the moment. Got Spud and the rest of you guys for well needed advice, though. Thank you for your tolerance and patience.
