Title: Third-party changes and add-ons
Post by: Francois on February 17, 2011, 04:57:47 AM
As I started work on enhancing the PAKT scenery (for Orbx and non-Orbx owners), an interesting discussion ensued on FSDeveloper.com. This is mainly on HOW to do things, without threading on (too many) toes from a technical perspective.

Since 'adding' to the base is what Misty Moorings is all about, I reckon some of you may be interested in that discussion too. It is moved here now (http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=32).

Bests,
Francois

Francois,

Thanks for sharing that link over at FSDeveloper. Which I feel is a much better location for this topic of discussion. I don't feel that RTMM and it's forums is the place for any Anti-ORBX discussions.
Personally, I feel that each developers true focus should be with finding common ground in the community. And what I mean by that is I think each developers most important priority should be to work together in finding a way to stop software piracy.

The "Pirate Bay" and all other torrent sites that enable users to steal from developers like yourself, Holger, Bill, John Venema and all FSX product developers are the enemy within. These threats are going to force developers out of business and nobody wins then.

When you spend money, time and energy on a version of PAKT, and ORBX does the same, neither side will truly make profitable compensation if a bunch of thieves take that work and distribute it piece by piece en masse. The pirates don't care whose objects were used in the creation process. They just want it for free.
We all lose and the community is weaker for it.

I hope that all the professional developers in our community can work towards finding common ground and putting aside their differences in this regard.
Or I fear the hobby we all clearly care about is doomed. And the pirates win.
