Title: Why do we have P3Dv1?
Post by: jeff3163 on April 06, 2014, 12:01:22 PM
Hey RTMM,
I have, from time to time, pondered the existence of P3D version 1.4.  I recently removed my copy from my computer.  It is dead weight to me.  I feel so foolish for spending money on it when it came out.
I've never used it, because I was waiting for the patches to come out for it.  When they did release a new version, it was NOT an upgrade to my purchase, but a new product.  And version 1 is still kicking around.  (and being patched)  WTF!!!  Is it the new FS9?   :-\

Who is using the 1.4 version?  And why?

Jeff,
I think the reason 1.4 is still around is because many people started with it and ORBX scenery has installers that are compatible.  V2, as you said, was a brand new ball game and ORBX scenery was NOT installable at first and installers are still on the drawing board for much of their scenery.  In addition Lockheed Martin keeps changing the game with the hotfixes being released for V2 making ORBX installers/scenery jump through new hoops in some instances.  With v1.4 it amounts to "If it ain't broke......" so to speak.
