Title: Elevation issue
Post by: caseyfallen on November 27, 2013, 03:28:49 PM
Boy, I am having a time over here. So I went for a flight to check out the area and noticed a elevation issue. Anyone else having this problem?

The cars and people waiting for the farey are floating in the air.

Damn, now what did I do.  :-[

Casey,
do you have the ORBX PAKT sp1 one installed?  I recall there is a file to add an active ferry crossing between PAKT and Ketchikan city but I believe it only works with the PAKT sp1 installed.  I do not use that particular scenery so perhaps somebody that does can jump in here and give a hand.

Thanks for pointing that out Spud! I found a note in the instructions that says I need to add a .off to one of the files.

Not exactly clear on this whole SP1 and SP2 thing.

Nevermind. I am all clear on this now. I see that I need to buy the PAKT add-on scenery for this one to work. One more to add to my buy list. : ) Unloaded from the scenery library for now. : )

Casey,

The SP1 reference by Spud is a little confusing. That is the Acronym for the PFJ Service Pack update number one that is meant for the entire Pacific Fjords region by ORBX. What Spud meant to refer you to was the PAKT payware addon airport by ORBX that fits inside the region.

Like you found out, that ferry scenery is meant to be used with that payware addition, which some people don't recommend because you will have no AI air traffic due to the sloping taxiway's used in the design.

I notice you have a lot of FedEx traffic. Looks great too. Are they static? Because if those are AI aircraft, they will not do anything but disappear upon touching the runway on the payware airport when landing. And they can't taxi out for take off either.

The payware airport looks good but hit's the FPS on some systems with the level of detail it adds. Some systems handle it fine, mine did but I didn't like the missing AI air traffic. That was the deal breaker for me. So I don't use it anymore. Just the default like you currently have for PAKT. It's too bad too because that airport looks really good with the sloping taxiways. It's like that in reality and the designer for ORBX did a great job making that look so good.

It's a very rewarding experience to use the payware airport yourself in an aircraft. The first time I landed on the new payware airport and taxied down to the ramps was a blast. Maybe someday the technology will improve and allow for sloping AI traffic.

Thanks Brad for this awesome explanation! Very much appreciated.

I certainly will forgo getting this add-on airport, I like my A.I. traffic. I agree. A deal breaker.

Yes, those are A.I. aircraft, nothing static. I use "My Traffic 2010" with traffic at 85% to get that look.

I can handle 100% traffic setting with no issue with my computer handling that volume of traffic, but I found that the aircraft double up on that setting. I read that setting it at 85% fixes that issue and it did for me. 85% is plenty of traffic. At 100% it can take hours to take off at a major airport.

Really a great program.
