Help Wanted
« on: February 13, 2012, 12:40:53 PM »
Spud got me thinking so, I have a question for anybody interested in helping with this. As some of you may already know, I've found a way in Instant Scenery to create scenery with the ability to have seasonal trees.

However I want to make it as easy as I can for end users to see those changes in the simulator. Right now I am recommending that the user switch files at the beginning of a new season, changing two files in the scenery will accomish this.

Do you think it might make it easier to just create each scenery like this with each of the separate seasons in their own zipfile that you install into your addon scenery library and then just select the season you need from there? This would eliminate the possible mix up that might occur when switching files around.

If you are interested in testing this process out for me, let me know.

Count me in.  Other than putting a few small AI sail boats/row boats at some of the local lakes I'm free to give it a look see and test it Brad.

Brad,
I think using the FSX Sceney Library to switch seasons would be better than changing files for a novice user.  Either method would work but with the Library method there is an automatic 'redo' of the Scenery.cfg when you exit the library so the texture change can be almost painless.  Change seasons and then uncheck one season folder in the library and check the new season.
Matter of fact I'll set up the fish camp scenery that way now and try it out.

Rod has created an executable file that can switch the seasons for us even easier than having all seasons in different folders, etc. I couldn't test it before work today but maybe Rod can send it to Spud, then it could be tested today and a better way is achieved.

Great!
I had just sent an email with my views on using the FSX Scenery Library with separate folders which had stated such a need.  So glad that Rod is capable of this type of programming work.
Looking forward to trying out his efforts on the subject.

Thanks Everybody who volunteered to help. We may need that help still with Rod's upcoming season swapping executable file. When that is ready, we'll let you know and you can let us know how that fix works for you.

Rod's Switcher works quite well and will be a part of the Canoona Fish Camp scenery files when they are posted for download.

The new scenery switcher is now included in the zip file this scenery package.  Works great. Thanks to all.  Hopefully this will be something we can use in the future too.

Hello,

My antivirus has deleted the executable file for the seasons, contained in the new zip file.
Do you think I can go recover it in the quarantine ?

Hi Handie,

Wow, that is a pretty agressive anti-virus if it deletes all executables in zip folders.  Did it delete it win you downloaded it or when you unzipped it.  What anti-virus are you using?

Hi Rod,

It deleted when I unzipped the file. This happens only rarely.
This is Norton Antivirus.
It noted that:
" canoona rtmm v2.0 season switcher.exe (Suspicious.Cloud.5) détecté par Auto-Protect,Mis en quarantaine "
and say that it is a heuristic virus.
I think that it is a false positive.

Hi Handie,

Yes Norton is famous for that type of stuff. The file is clean so you might try disabling Norton from realtime checking and then unzip the file and then renable the realtime checking.

Many, many people continue to move to Microsoft Security Essentials which has developed a pretty good track record and doesn't seem to exhibit the same kind of over-sensitivity that Norton does.  The free price is also pretty desirable  However, virus security is not really my expertise.
