Which Display size ?
« on: October 07, 2011, 07:36:05 PM »
Hi All,
since some time I´m thinking of looking for a new bigger display. At the moment I´m using a 19" screen, 1280x 1080 resolution (aspect ratio 4/3) as second display with my laptop (which has a 17" screen). This display was cheap as I purchased it second hand.

But now I want something bigger,....like 24" or 27".
Would be very interested to hear which display sizes do you use and/ or can recommend?

Update!!!!

This Morning went to the local store..... Now, I own a 27 inch (1920x1080) Samsung LED screen as primary display!!
I had to decide between bigsize screen and mobiltiy ( size and weights) of all my hardware for allowing to put all this stuff together into my car and take whereever with me I`m going to....

Still some screen settings to adjust, but did already fire up FSX for the first time with the new panel..
.......Wow, what a Blast!!!!  ;D

Browsing threads, I found this one from the past.  So I thought I would add to it.  ;D

A little update is needed, I think.  Since then Klaus and I have each upgraded our systems.  Klaus now has three 27" monitors, and I have three 42" monitors.  More IS better!!!   ;D

Panorama's are easier to make!  ;)  (This is 126" inches across for me.)

That's some serious display setup Jeff, it will nearly be as good a seat at an IMAX cinema ;)

But seriously I have been using a single 24 inch 1980 x 1200 for some years  with another 19 inch 1200 x 1200 monitor for maps etc. but now with P3D V2.1 I can stretch the display over the 2 monitors even though they are different sizes and slightly different resolutions. Although the overall picture is not perfect is gives a great feel for what  your setup will be like. The jump in display size gives a far better immersion feeling.
Cheers

What do you mean "nearly"!  :o  I always have front row, center seat.  I have control of the screen.  There's no sticky stuff under my seat.  And I didn't have to drive to get here!  And it is 50/1.  I don't think IMAX is that wide.  ;)

Lol, 3x 42 inch monitors is difficult to imagine when sitting so close. I guess I will have to have 3 screens someday but maybe 27 inch like Klaus but ultra high def with G- sync, even that will be seriously expensive :)

Yes, be careful when you're choosing a size.  My computer room is only 10'x10' feet across.  There are two doorways and a full size desk and filing cabinet.  Plus my two full tower cases.  There's also two bookcases and my chair.  And the flight yoke and pedals, etc.  And the driving wheel and pedals too.  It is very cozy.  But the monitors go from wall to wall.  They are curved, because they wouldn't fit otherwise.  But sitting three feet away from them is comfortable.  They are all exactly the same model and size, so there is no size mismatch issues or resolution differences between them.
As for cost, I saved up for a year before carefully shopping for the exact model and size I wanted.  By then, the price of LED TV's came down by a couple of hundred dollars each. I have never felt sorry about spending the $1300 for them.  They (all three of them) are lighter, cooler, and more economical (combined) than my one plasma tv was by itself.

I'd better stop now.   :-[

Tadaaaaa!!! ;D  I've whipped up a picture of me!  (checking out the RTMM forum).   ;D   ::)

There they are.  (well, . . . most of them.  I couldn't get far enough back.)  ???

  8)  (LOL -  . . . and yes, that is a phone with a cord on it.)  ;D

Jeff...you 'da man. No doubt in my mind. What an incredible set up. When I grow up I want one just like yours. Thanks for posting the pic...it's hard to imagine 3 42" monitors side by side without a picture. Awesome.
