New Multiplayer Server: DigitalThemePark
« on: September 04, 2011, 08:38:28 PM »
Dear All,

My name is Zexe (Ze as in Zephyr, Exe as in X-ray), and I joined your forum to learn more about boating with you guys.  I also love flying and wanted to fly with others and so I searched and searched and found this FSX multiplayer server.  It seems to be in good order, serious, casual, real enthusiasts pilots who love to fly and have a good time.  They asked me to invite you guys to their server should you want to have company flying.  They have many channels, and they have events quite often.  The administrators looked at your website and took a big interest in the Hops you guys do.  The are happy to host you on their server if you are interested.

Here is their information:

For more details, connect your TeamSpeak to ts3.digitalthemepark.com and someone will be there to introduce you as a DTP citizen. We are gathering in the AoA Events channel (DigitalThemePark is the official AoA VoIP location for ground schools, Flight Training, VATSIM & GA Fly-ins). In TeamSpeak, on the channel details screen(that panel on the right), you will find more details of the route(s) and points of interest. I would suggest getting connected before our flights in order to make sure your headset fully works before the actual flight. We like to be prompt and not waste avgas idling on the airfield.

btw: Feel free to connect anytime. Several informal flights go on as well, as well as VATSIM flights, Grounds Schools, Training, etc. If you are a flight group in need of TeamSpeak services, we can accommodate as well.

Best,
Zexe

Actually Spud there isn't a website.  You need FSHost Client and Teamspeak 3 Client.  You need to connect to their TS 3 address: ts3.digitalthemepark.org .
Their IP address for the FSHost Client is :  50.21.183.90 .

peace, Zexe

Greetings Aviators,

First off I want to say Happy Holidays from DigitalThemePark, its citizens and myself.

Note: I am following up on Zexe's post. This is not to poach any members, just offer alternative flights, as some of us just can't get enough flying.

This is our 10th year of operation and we have come a long way since 2002. We started with TeamSpeak 2 and rose to the occasion to host the BFRecRoom, a Battlefield 1942 gaming clan. From those early days we grew to what you see and experience today. We have over 1800 citizens, with over 250 in the flight division. The secret for longevity is to have everyone contribute their ideas and time as they wish. Each one of our activities comes from the minds of our citizens.

Okay, so what is this DigitalThemePark community you talk of?
DigitalThemePark is a multi-gaming community of virtual citizens. It provides organization and congregation of gamers through the use Voice-over IP (TeamSpeak 3), while promoting the interests of gaming, software, and hardware.

Sounds nifty; I want to fly with you; how do I connect?
Connect your TeamSpeak to ts3.digitalthemepark.com and someone will be there to introduce you as a DTP citizen. We gather in Flight Division channels. Within these channels, on the right side, you will find more details of the route(s) and points of interest. I would suggest getting connected early in order to make sure your headset, controls and connections all work before the actual flight. We like to be prompt and warm up our aircraft at the designated time.

Okay you got me hooked, what will this cost me?
We are a flight club like any other. We only require the passion to fly and enjoy this hobby with your fellow aviators.

Let's move on to the second part of this post.

What has DigitalThemePark planned for future aviator entertainment?
We have a full calendar of events.

Starting with our fly-ins, we have Tasmania/Australia and for December we are bringing back the popular Pacific Northwest flights. All of these are flown in the detail that ORBX offers. We designed these flight to even take advantage of the additionally detailed ORBX airports. All we ask is that you fly in GA aircraft, ditch your GPS, VOR, and NDB's. We change pilots back to being aviators with a map in your lap and all the mountain peaks, rivers, etc. you can handle.

We have a new event called Discover-US. This takes the group, starting in Maine, to every state in the union. Yes, we even do Hawaii and Alaska. 25,000 fun filled nautical miles, and no we don't do this in one sitting. Expect a good year to complete. We suggest something a little faster than the Piper Cub or Cessna 150. We have opened it up to all aircraft types.

Also on the docket, is The Great Air Race. Think of this as a challenging aviation scavenger hunt. Flight squads will be selected, team leaders, aircraft used and mystery "envelopes" released right before the flight. Open to anyone, but not for for the faint-of-heart.

We have a real life flight instructor starting a V.PPL (Virtual Private Pilot License) course. Covered will be similar information found in a real PPL. Disclaimer: This is for entertainment purposes only and not part of any government or public agency. We start ground school next week.

How many RotorHeads do we have out there? We have HoverControl Hour hosted by one of our chopper pilots. He has some great helicopter only flights around the Pacific Northwest and surrounding areas.

Don't care to know what to expect? We have Mystery Flight Night. I am not going to say much about it, but anything goes. You might walk away smiling, crying, or sweating.

One of our members just can't contain himself when it comes to good ideas. I have a filled email box with all sorts of his creativity. We are now introducing, in December, Brian's Hour. He will lead you down a rabbit hole of flight sim exuberance.

You can access our calendar of events here (in Pacific and ZULU time):
https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=obf8gd671b30e3of0quug8db6s@group.calendar.google.com&ctz=Etc/PT

As you can see we have a lot going on and welcome new folks to stop by. It is a great group of pilots, we have a lot of fun, and keep it real. Enough from me, as I could go on and on. Check it out when you get a chance.

You folks doing the multiplayer things need to jump in here and give me some guidance. What do you think of this, it looks good to me ... but I don't do a lot of multiplayer.  If you want to use this method of flying together, let me know and Todd and I will set up linkage, etc. He has explained it very well (even I understand it now).  But a little feedback from the community is needed here.   Give DTP a try and see what you think, if a significant number of folks like it, we'll darned sure set up linkages, etc.  Give us some feedback here.

Doug,
I'm going to log onto TS3 today and see what this looks like and will let you know.  I have only used TS3 a couple of times (usually on TS2) so it is all new to me.  If it is not too 'formal' it should prove interesting and informative to say the least.  I already have and use FSHost client so that isn't a problem.  Normally I fly multiplayer with my VA (FreedomAir) about once a month.
I'll let you know about my observations.

OK,
I think we have a excellent opportunity with this Doug.  They are onTeamSpeak 3 24/7 and have a very extensive setup with areas for all kinds of multi-player content.  I talked with Zoolander for about a half hour and he covered so much my head is swimming but I think if the folks at RTMM want to do some multi-player flying this is probably the best set up you could ask for.  They are very laid back and informal, it is exactly what folks new to multi-player need to get started.

Zoolander (Todd) has already set up a Return to Misty Moorings area with a lounge for chatting and an area for flying for us.  The flying area is for voice comm. with the TS3 and we would use FSHost Client for the actual multi-player connection for FSX.  As far as links are concerned once you set up your TS3 it will take you directly to the RTMM Lounge when you connect with Digital Theme Park.

The first time you access DTP you will enter the main lounge where you will be greeted by a host (in my case Zoolander) they will add your 'citizenship' and guide you through setting up to sign on directly into the RTMM lounge.

Zoolander would really like to chat with you and explain their setup.  Not being a forum mod etc. I really am in a grey area but think I can get r' done.  If you do not yet have TS3 you will need to download that and go to the DTP site and talk with them which will clarify what they have much better than I'm typing here.

Below is a blurb Todd (Zoolander) put up on the TS3 to explain some of what they have (cut n' paste)

<11:28:07>"[STAFF] Zoolander64": ###
For those not yet in-the-know, DigitalThemePark is a multi-gaming community of virtual citizens. It provides organization and congregation of gamers through the use Voice-over IP (TeamSpeak 3), while promoting the interests of gaming, software, and hardware.

We have staff members monitoring the TeamSpeak 24/7, and we are here to greet you for your first time connect. After we assign your "citizenship", you are free to roam around the various channels and chat/play with other citizens. For this group, the Flight Division / Pilot's Lounge is where it all happen.

DigitalThemePark Flight Division uses dedicated servers "in-the-cloud" for TeamSpeak, FSHost Multiplayer and FSX Multiplayer.

I don't know if you use TS3 or not but that is the first step in the process and I would recommend that you try and speak with Zoolander as he seems to be very knowledgeable and informed.   If you have already spoken with him then you probably know most of this but if you have not used TS3 try it and see how much it adds to the experience when you can actually speak with your fellow aviators.

Thank you Spud. OK, I dropped Todd an email asking how to set up the "linkage" between RTMM and DTP. We could set it up at Misty's Place.   Thank you for checking it out for us.

Doug,
I would recommend using this forum because it is dedicated to Multi-Player already and just saves jumping to another area.  Actually it would be basically just a place to post any fly-in type notices or just a hey I'm going to fly to XX at XXXX meet me at DTP in the RTMM lounge.  Right now it can be kept that simple.

DTP has the capability to let us do a lot more if we want to do that.  All that is required is Team Speak 3 and FSHost Client to be installed.  After your first visit to DTP and you are made a citizen (member) you can set up your TS3 so that when you connect to TS3 and DTP you will automatically be in "our" lounge area simplicity par excellence!

Team Speak is actually great because you can actually talk real time and it is completely separate from multi-player.  You can use it almost like a phone call but its free!

This the link for downloading Team Speak 3.  You need the "Client" version for your operating system.  For most of us that would be Windows either Client 32-bit or Client 64-bit OS which ever you use.

http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads

This will let you 'talk to the world' with very little effort.

Get it you'll like it!

OK Spud ... downloading it this morning.  Maybe we could put a "blurb" for DTP on Misty's Place for folks wanting to do multiplayer. We could have a "how to" link that would go to the FAQ for DTP with a link to Teamspeak 3, etc. Also links there to the "latest" on the forum as you suggested, so people could have their notices there?

Doug's Digital Theme Park Review

OK, I went to Digital Theme Park and gave it a try.  The first thing you'll notice is that you are "personally greeted" by an admin ... none of this "log on" stuff, they get you started and you get your ID from a real person. Zoolander64 took me through the site and I found it absolutely amazing.  As all of you know, I'm not a multiplayer kind of guy, but I could get interested in this.  First things first:

here's how you get started: (from Zoolander64)

Connect your TeamSpeak to ts3.digitalthemepark.com and someone will be there to introduce you as a DTP citizen. double-click on Zoolander64 or Hollywood and IM us for citizenship.  If we are away, double-click on any users name to contact them. We gather in Flight Division channels. Within these channels, on the right side, you will find more details of the route(s) and points of interest. I would suggest getting connected early in order to make sure your headset, controls and connections all work before the actual flight. We like to be prompt and warm up our aircraft at the designated time.

Download TeamSpeak 3 that you can find here: http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads

When you are inside TeamSpeak, you can connect to their server using: ts3.digitalthemepark.com. You will actually be "met at the door" with a "live person" who will then guide you through the site and help you get set up. Once you are in there and are a "citizen" ... look around at some of the neat things they have.

Looking at the TeamSpeak Window, there are 3 "panes" top left, top right and bottom. The bottom is the chat area. Look on the top left pane for Pacific Northwest "Bear Paw".  Right click ONCE on it and then look at the upper left pane. You will see "legs" there. These are the legs to a cross country flights ... like our dispatches, and trip tics. They are using Sky Vector.  We could easily set up something like this for a project like CIRP and have people "fly" through the legs, downloading the new files as they go.  Lots of possibilities in this "trip tic" (legs) area.  They actually have a cross country flight the guys and gals there are working on ... and as they complete a flight, they can log it for "achievement." (Discussed later).

As you dig into the site, you'll see they have "achievement" awards ... they've got Google Spreadsheets set up so when you finish a flight, you can log it for achievement awards.  We've been offered this setup down the line if we like it.  Having this set up for our various locations would be a huge undertaking, but might add a new dimension to the site.

First, we need our multiplayer folks and others (like me) to go and try this thing and "meet the folks" at Digital Theme Park.  Those who know more about this than me will know better questions to ask.  If there is interest, then we are probably looking at a MultiPlayer section for RTMM. We can post calendars over on the DTP site, etc. They will make special "rooms" for us if needed, etc.

Second, once we have a few folks trying it and getting comfortable with it, then I'll look to those folks for further direction as to where we go with linkage, etc. We'll need people to "administer" this part of the activities, etc.  But that is down the line a little (just looking ahead).

Spud was correct ... this looks like a very solid platform for Multiplayer and general "chatting" (there is a "lounge" (Misty's Place?) where folks can gather to "talk".

These are my ideas after seeing the site and being given a personal guided tour through it by Zoolander64. We've got come pretty special people here at RTMM and I'm hoping that those who know much more about this than I do would take a close look and help us with some planning, etc.

Well, Teamspeak 3 is working well at Digital Theme Park.  We've already had some nice "chats" in the Misty's Place Lounge which you can make as a bookmark.  Watch for folks there, not a lot of activity yet but it seems to be a solid platform with lots of help from the folks there.
