PA-18 Parking Brake
« on: October 12, 2018, 02:37:11 PM »
I'm running FSX-SE in Win10.  I thought I would switch to the Flight Replica's Super Cub for Tour 4, but I can't get a parking brake to set, and Cigar Box won't start the flight without the parking brake set.

I have changed the default ("CTRL + .") key strokes to something else (no effect), and then back to the default with no effect.  I have also set the "Brakes (set parking)" to a joystick button, but that hasn't worked either.

I don't think that the real Super Cub has a parking brake, but that shouldn't be a problem in the sim, should it?  Anyway, I know I am probably overlooking something obvious but I'm stumped.  I'm sure someone has got this to work, so I need some help, please.

Thanks,
Jerry

Hi Jerry,
     FYI, in the Cigarbox options, you can disable parking brake detection (ignore parking brakes).  ;)

Two Choices Jerry:

1) As per Jeff, turn off the Cigar Box Parking Brake Requirement. (See Pic below)

or

2) Add a parking brake feature to your airplane:
in Aircraft.cfg (open in notepad) - Search (Edit > Find) >>>  Parking

That will take you to the brakes section:

[brakes]
parking_brake = 0                         //Parking brake available
toe_brakes_scale = 0.0              //Brake scalar
differential_braking_scale = 0.0         //Delta on the amount of brake when the rudder pedals deflected
auto_brakes = 0

So now change a few values:

Change
parking_brake = 0     to read     parking_brake = 1       (1 enables the parking brake on an aircraft)

Change
toe_brakes_scale = 0.0    to read     toe_brakes_scale = 0.65     (0.65 brake scalar value/effectiveness)

Change
differential_braking_scale = 0.0    to read differential_braking_scale = 1.0

Save and exit.   Voila now you have functioning brakes on your aircraft.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cigar Box:

Parking brake setting in Cigar Box >> go to tab > Main >> Settings  >> Tick Ignore Parking Brake - then Save and then Exit Cigar Box. Restart Cigar Box and now you can start/end a flight without the use of a parking brake. (Works especially well for float planes that are not equipped with a parking brake feature.)

Hope this helps.
