P3Dv4.3 Failure to load
« on: August 09, 2018, 10:04:40 AM »
Two days ago my P3Dv4'3 loaded and worked fine.  Yesterday I put in TWC 2 and it failed to load at all.  At that time I removed all the TWC 2 entries and it still failed to load.  When selected P3D will sit on the startup screen for hours and never load up.  It may not be due to the TWC 2 install attempt.  Any suggestions or advice?

Look at tasks in Task Manager. I Prepar3D shows 0% cpu, restart sim. Watch the progress in TM and if it drops to 0% again and stays then there is something wrong with the config files. Delete the Prepar3d .cfg file and retry.

It is doing exactly that in TM.  When you start it it goes up to about 16% and then drops to zero. It will try to increase % but again drops to zero and stays there.  Where is the cfg file located you want me to delete?

James: Two things to do to start:

1) Delete file Prepar3d.cfg which is in hidden folder:
>> C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4

2) Delete shader folder which is in hidden folder:
>> C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4/Shaders

Shut down PC and cold boot (Start from off).

When loaded up try to start your sim and report results Aye ok or what is happening.

Same thing happened after deleting both files.  Went to a little over 12% then decreased to zero.  Tried to increase again but decreased to zero and stayed there.

Did you save a flight as default besides the actual default?

Not really.  I save my current position and then select it from the screen without going to the default flight.

Are there any events relative to the sim in the event log?

if the answer to the above is no, follow this exactly:

1. Go to Program Data\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3d v4 folder.
2. Rename scenery.cfg to scenery.cfg.hld
3. Rename add-ons.cfg to add-ons.cfg.hld

Try to start the sim and report results.

Follow Steve above 1st (what you are doing is turning off your scenery and any add-ons then starting your sim with default install scenery only. Then slowly turning stuff back on to find the problem.

Now it might be a corrupt reference in your scenery.cfg lingering/incorrect path to a scenery so it's hanging.  Are you using a scenery addon manager or adding stuff manually? (scenery addon managers or migrators can mess things up mighty fast especially in P3Dv4).

Also If you want to shoot me your scenery.cfg can take a peek at it.
scenery.cfg file is located in hidden folder >>  C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4

Now you might also have a oldscenery.cfg file in that same folder. Could try adding .OFF to the scenery.cfg file (scenery.cfg.OFF) and rename oldscenery.cfg to scenery.cfg then start your sim and see if it boots up and loads.

Norm

PS: For all using P3D v4.3: P3Dv4.3 has a max of 1099 scenery references, Having the 1100th (or more) scenery references in your scenery.cfg will cause a similar loading error and CTD.

Sometimes in FSX a corrupt logbook can prevent loading. Google FSX corrupt logbook. As I recall there's a fix for this that I came across long ago.

I have not experienced a corrupt logbook in P3D, but it sure was an issue in FSX. I think the fix was logbook editor.

Renaming scenery.cfg and add-ons.cfg did the trick.  Now my scenery library shows nothjiong but default.  Does this mean I have to add everything back starting with Tongass as if I am doing a new install?  kIf so what a job.

Ok good James... So now turn on the add-ons again (only the add-ons). So from Steve, go backwards
>> Rename add-ons.cfg.hld back to add-ons.cfg

Try your sim again.

Start? If yes, then the add-on.cfg is not a problem. If no start, then the addons are a problem.

Do the same with scenery.cfg,  (Turn addons off) but now >> Rename scenery.cfg.hld back to scenery.cfg

and start up the sim.  If a no go, then something is wrong with that previous scenery.cfg
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for the recent new scenery.cfg (from P3D bootup), your scenery library is kind of empty right now.

So send me that scenery.cfg.hld or that previous scenery.cfg file.. I can take a peek at it.. and send it back to you .. sure don't want you to have to add everything back by hand.
