Need Help My Fellow Bushies.
« on: March 19, 2011, 09:04:42 AM »
My problem: "  invalid Remote scenery path in scenery aera 174 "

I did the all time"  boo boo " and installed a few programs without checking out each scenery after install.

I installed the latest AI floatplane BGL

I installed Sewall lodge and all the RWY12 files and everything is looking and working fine with this scenery.

I also installed North Plains 10R4 by OZx and it looks fantastic and seems to be working correct.

After these installs and upon starting FSX I get the error  "  invalid Remote scenery path in scenery aera 174 "

Everything seems to be working ok, it is just the error box comes on while starting FSX and all I do is press " OK " to contuine and all is fine.

Does anybody know anything about this and can help me correct it.

Thanks and much obliged

IF you have not moved the entries for the newest scenery addons you activated in your FSX Scenery Library they should be at the top of the list, just go into the Library and uncheck the boxes for everything you have added since the error started showing up.  Let it rebuild your Scenery Cfg file, shut down FSX.  Load and run FSX and the error should be gone. if it is then add each scenery one at a time by re-checking the box for the scenery in the Scenery Library.  I would shutdown the sim after each added scenery and restart.  When you get to the offending scenery you get the error again and now you have it pinpointed as to what to work with.  Uncheck that scenery again then delete it from the Scenery Library using the delete area function of the Library.
Now you have to figure out where the path to that scenery area is wrong which is what the error message is telling you.

Open texture.cfg and do a manual read through. If necessary you can edit by hand.

BEWARE!

Only do this if you feel confident and understand the numbering system.

Thanks gents for the help.

I did as you so kindly wrote Spud and it makes sense to me as well, but I still get that pesky error box with them checked or not.

One-eye I would screw that texture cfg file to pieces if I messed with it, plus I can not find the file.

At this point with a few hours trying to correct it I will just lower my humble pride and just click on " continue from the error window. I see no change in FSX due to the error. I just hate it when the window comes up.

I am still VERY open for any help though.

Chris,
why the texture.cfg file?  And where does one find this file?

I thought of the Scenery.cfg file first but I have 3 scenery.cfg files 2 identical and incorrect and the 3rd one lurking in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX which is the true Scenery.cfg file.  Did not want to get into too technical of an area without trying the simple (K.I.S.S.) things first.

Robert,
when you installed the scenery in the list did you have your FTX Central set to North America?

Perhaps he was referring to Terrain.Cfg which is known for getting hosed when things are moved around etc.  Like mine, all the water around Forrester Island turned to trees!  To fix that, that great wizard Holger told me to reinstall Tongass and that filed it.

Robert,
If you did not have FTX installed, I think you mean North America selected in FTX Central.  If you have any FTX (ORBX) payware scenery installed this switching utility will be on your desktop.  In any case if FTX Central was not set to North America I would un-install the scenery from the FSX Scenery Library run FTX Central and set it to North America, install one scenery at a time and check that it works properly.  Then do the next scenery etc.

Dex,
I have never messed with the Terrain.cfg and know nadda about that file.

Dex,
yes I understood that, as I said never messed with that file.  But I'm confused on the TEXTURE.CFG file.  Can not recall ever seeing a file by that name, if it is the one Chris means where of where can that little dog be!?

I think Chris meant the terrain.cfg file, which is the main FSX directory.

In mine I have the following:

// Legacy Airport Backgrounds (obsolete) - Low Sparse Grassland
[Texture.174]
Name=Airport_Backgrounds_Legacy_Low_Sparse_Grassland
Color=FFFFFF00
LegacyId=1189
Size=4
FlattenMode=none
LandClassRemapType=airport
ExcludeAutogen=Yes
RenderToTexture=Yes
RenderPriority=20000
Water=No

Check to see if you have this in yours, Robert.
If you open terrain.cfg in Notebook and search for  Texture.173
then Texture.174 should be the next entry.

FlattenMode=none
LandClassRemapType=airport
ExcludeAutogen=Yes
RenderToTexture=Yes
RenderPriority=20000
Water=No

Color=FFFFFF00
LegacyId=1190
Size=4

LandClassRemapType=airport

Well guys it is all corrected with the thanks to all of you and your kindness.

A special BIG thanks to Dieter helping to  find the correct scenery.cfg.  The error was Border Lake.

All I did was delete that area and the error was gone and simply  reinstalled Border lake and at this point no error...I love that.  I have learned alot from all this and once again thank you so much for your time with me and this problem.
