Vancouver+
« on: September 21, 2017, 11:19:59 AM »
I had Vancouver+ scenery for P3Dv3 but there is no update for Version 4. I understand FSAddon cannot update it. Does anyone know a way of getting Vancouver+ into P3Dv4 please? The work by the late Jon Patch was so so good that I miss it.
Cheers from over the pond
Howard

Hi Howard,
Welcome to RTMM, the forum.  Vancouver+ is a great scenery package.  Why don't you just install it, er ... add it to your v4 the same as v3?  I did -  :P

What is wrong with it that needs fixing?   It seems to work for me.  ;)

Hi Jeff,

Funny you should post this as I was just thinking about adding Vancouver+ to my P3Dv3 installation.  Did you do anything special to add it to P3Dv3 or did you just run the executable and set the target folder to be the root P3Dv3 folder ?

Hi Rod,
There is a third option.  I did nothing special, and I simply added the folders to my v4 scenery config.  They are sitting just above FTX and below RTMM, with "higher" above "lower" of course.   ;)  Ignorance is a powerful thing!  ;D

You do mean P3Dv4, not three, right?  I knew that.  :o

Hi Jeff,

No, I meant v3.   I don't plan to go to v4 for awhile yet.  So, how did you install it into v3?  I don't have it installed anywhere right now.

I installed it in V3 and V4 using Jeff's method.  Just put the folders in and add it to the scenery library.

I really wonder, what about the  Vancouver+ entries (about 47) in terrain.cfg?

Hi Dieter,
A closer look at my system shows that I had copied my "FSAddon" folder over from v3 to v4 before adding it to the sim (v4).  The folder ... "FSAddon\VanPlus v3\cache" has a terrain.cfg file in it.   ???

Hi Dieter,

You make a good point.  For me, I know that this stuff has to be done.  I was just checking to see if Vancouver+ needed something special in the registry.  But our readers may not know what might have to happen behind the scenes.  For example, there are actually a block of 48 Vancouver Plus FSX custom textures that need to be manually added to the P3D terrain.cfg as part of getting everything running and looking correct.

My actual procedure, since I didn't have Vancouver Plus for FSX installed anywhere, was to install it into my test bench computer which has a clean copy of FSX Deluxe. I ran the configurator and configured it for the options I wanted including PNW compatibility.   I then copied the now installed Vancouver+ components over to my P3Dv3 installation.  This would work for P3Dv4 too according to Jeff and Dex.

The Vancouver+ unique files/components that I copied over to P3D from the FSX installation were from the following folders:

SimObjects, Sound, Effects, the whole FSAddon folder and the 48 custom texture entries from the terrain.cfg file.  I did not overwrite anything that I already had in my P3Dv3 installation other than adding the 48 custom texture block of text to the P3Dv3 terrain.cfg after I renumbered the 48 entries to add on to the current terrain.cfg and incremented the number of files by 48.

@Rod
it's correct what you wrote!

I did my installation in P3Dv4 already a while ago, procedure very similar how you described above.
This installation can be compared with the one we did with "TongassX".

Attention:
=> When using RTMM scenery "Whistler Aerodrome" you have to deactive from "VanPlus_Higher_Priority/scenery" following two files:
- Facility_CAE5.BGL
- AF2_CAE5 Whistler-Green Lake SPB.bgl

=> You must not install RTMM scenery "Vancouver International Sea Plane Base/CAM9 if “Vancouver+” is installed.

Many greetings
Dieter

I snapped some pics this morning, flying into Vancouver from Squamish ...

 8)
I searched my various "terrain.cfg" files for the entries for Van and Vic Plus.  I found some for Vancouver Plus, but only 33 entries, not 47.  I could not find any for Victoria Plus, but found the ones for Vancouver in my Victoria Plus terrain.cfg file.   ???   So I added those 33 entries and renumbered them.  I went for a flight from Squamish water park to Vancouver at 500ft. .  It was a beautiful flight, and I haven't seen any anomalies either before or after adding the terrain.cfg entries.
Could I get a copy of the text block for Vancouver Plus and Victoria Plus?  I would appreciate that.   8)
