Beaver Buoyancy Enigma
« on: September 02, 2017, 04:44:10 PM »
I fly three Beavers with floats.

When I load a flight with the FSX model, it appears normally on my screen: bobbing on the water surface with its floats and rudder partially submerged as they should be.

When I load a flight with the Aerosoft model, it appears on my screen bobbing somewhere over the water surface with its floats and rudder not submerged at all. If I load now the FSX model and then return to the Aerosoft model, things return to normal with floats and rudder partially submerged.

When I load the Milviz Model, it shows the same behavior as the Aerosoft model, but loading any other model and returning to it solves nothing. It remains stubbornly bobbing somewhere over the water surface, its floats and rudder not submerged at all.

In my view and according to my tests:
It is not merely a model problem.
It is not a float contact point problem. I tweaked all I could with no result.
It is not a dx9/dx10 problem.
It is not a water resolution problem.
It is not a scenery or water elevation problem.
It is an enigma...

By the way, all model show at all time normal wake effect when taking off.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Bruno,
I am not able to reproduce your issue.  What are your water and tessellation settings currently set at?  There is a setting that causes the floats to take the average of the waters surface, instead of riding the waves.  I don't remember how it was implemented now.  Maybe Dex can help here?  ???

He mentions that it isn't a DX9/DX10 issue so I don't think he's using P3D, but he doesn't specifically say one way or another.

Hi Guys,

I use FSX SP2.
Water is set at Low 2x
Where do I check the tessellation?

I am curious about the setting for the average of the water surface. Where could it be?
Thanks

There is no tessellation in FSX, only in P3D.  ;)

I found this, where I applied it to my malibu ski boat.  In the contacts section, not a contact but a statement:

Quote
[contact_points]
always_use_avg_surface=1 // levels out the water in P3D
;/1  Class  (0 = None, 1 = Wheel, 2 = Scrape, 3 = Skid, 4 = Float, 5 = Water Rudder)
;/2  Longitudinal Position        (feet)
  ... etc, etc.

It is placed in aircraft.cfg just beneath the [contact points] line, above the column descriptions.  ;)
It says it's for P3D, and probably won't fix your issue.  No harm to try it though, on those three floaters.   :)

As an aside:
The MilViz Beaver needs the "Acceleration Pack" for FSX to run correctly. This applies to many aircrafts that have been published for a number of years. (and many sceneries, too).

No tessellation: roger
always_use_avg_surface=1: no change in my FSX

Dieter
It was long ago and I forgot my FSX install actually is Acceleration which contains both SP1 and SP2.

Thanks. I keep digging...

Sorry, Penzoil3, but as I wrote in my answer to Dieter (see above) :
"It was long ago and I forgot my FSX install actually is Acceleration which contains both SP1 and SP2."

Anyway, the problem may be related to EZCA but  I have not yet pinpointed why.

Hi Bruno,
I've been using EZCA for years and never had that issue. Dumb question, but are you loading the flights in question from saved flights that were in slew mode when they were saved? I ask because slew mode will make the aircraft "float" above the water. If you are creating new flights from scratch from the opening screen then forget what I just asked. Just grasping at straws here.

Does just happen at a single location or multiple?

Solution to the enigma not really understood but problem solved by various new installs.
Thank to all for your assistance.

I loveit/hate it when that happens. Problem solved but no idea why. Just move on and be happy until it happens again.  :)
