RTMM sounds in P3Dv4
« on: July 29, 2017, 05:44:56 AM »
During the past days I noticed that I don't have any RTMM environment sounds in my RTMM sceneries installed to P3Dv4.
Just some examples:
- CBT3/Pan Phillips
- CAS2/Moose Lake Lodge Airstrip
- TF20/Gilbert Bay Airfield
- PF20/Misty's Place
I wonder how come.

What about other users of P3Dv4? Do you have same experience?

P.S. All necessary effect-, sound-files (wav and bgl) installed.

Misty's is quiet in my v4.  I haven't checked the other locations.  Suspect they are the same.  :-\ ???

My guess is that in their wisdom LM broke something in the sound controller.

My Misty sound works in P3Dv4.  I just copied my Misty scenery folder from P3Dv3..  Make sure you are not
in SLEW mode because that will mute sound.  You can go to Sitka in Tongass and it should have sound.

Sounds, I don't even have buildings! I have Misty's Place signs, but there's nothing under them ! P3D3, or P3D4.

 OK, library problem fixed now, but no sounds. Have to work on that. LOL

@dexthom
oh, the well known sounds at Misty's Place.
I'm not in slew-modus - still working on it to get the sound running again.
Many greetings

Oh well,
I'm very sorry for upsetting the apple cart, the "problem" was a little typo in my "effects.cfg" file.
Now all RTMM sounds are back.
Many greetings

Hi Dieter,
     Could you explain the typo, and your correction please?

Well, I will explain but this is no general solution, it's just for my installation:

(Experienced) P3D users know that from version 3.3 on it is possible to install addons like sceneries or airplanes in a folder outside the P3D root/main folder.
So I did for selected software.
(Btw, some installers don't allow this!)

Software like RTMM or Global Ship traffic/Henrik Nielsen don't have installers. Installation has to be done manually.
I used this method because of the very many effect-, sound-, and traffic files to have a better overview and to avoid to copy them into the according root folders.

For RTMM software I linked the sound and effects "outside folders" in
\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4
- sound.cfg

[Entry.2]
Title=RTMM Scenery Sound
Path=D:\Addon Scenery\Return To Misty Moorings\Sound
Required=True
Active=True

- effects.cfg

[Entry.3]
Title=RTMM Scenery Effects
Path=D:\Addon Scenery\Return To Misty Moorings\Effects
Required=True
Active=True
==> This was my problem: instead of \Return To Misty Moorings\ I had \Return To MistyMoorings\. So the effects were inactive.

Here you'll find  a very recommendable freeware tool for P3Dv4 for organizing addons, sceneries and much more (updated permanently):
- Lorby Prepar3D V4 Addon Organizer

Many greetings

Thank you, Dieter.  That looks like valuable information, and will certainly help someone else who has done the same thing.   ;)  I did add the full path to my effects and sound cfg statements to see if my Misty sounds come back.  No luck yet.   :-\

@Jeff
Oh, that's weird.
What about your sound bgl files? Do you have them activated through the according RTMM scenery folders?
I have them collected in an extra RTMM sound folder, but that shouldn't make any difference.
Most likely it doesn't seem to be an LM based problem.
Many greetings
Dieter
