Re installing RTMM
« on: January 20, 2017, 02:10:55 PM »
I am reinstalling everything, so also RTMM stuff.
I have everything on a seperate directory + per scenery a specific subdirectory. Do I need to add/activate every single scenery (subdirectory) in the simulator or is there an easier way?
Thanks for your advice

In a word or two, yes each and every one. No easier way.

Hi Marcus,
Yes, each scenery needs to be added individually.  Each one contains its own scenery subfolder with the unique information for that particular location.  Additionally, it gives each scenery library entry a unique name that describes the location it represents.  I like to have my scenery library in alphabetical order, so I would start with the zeds and finish with the A's.  Install your libraries first though, and put those down under the first RTMM scenery entry.  ;)

I know I've said it before (broken record?)... but instead of making adding the scenery a huge chore...use the GoTo table and download things you like and fly them. If there are things in the table that you wouldn't enjoy, then skip them. Nobody needs to have EVERYTHING. (I have to, but that is because I run the web page and have to be ready to help where ever you decide to go). But you don't need to have it all. Download fun and fly the fun, then download more. Enjoy the process of adding the scenery and making it an enjoyable journey. The GoTo table will help you select the route for the ON-GOING journey.

Use the Scenery Configuration Editor and point it to the directory and tell it to add. RTM.

BBQSteve is right. The Scenery Configuration Editor will save you a ton of time because you can use it outside of FSX/P3D and easily add scenery in the blink of an eye. It's the best way to go.

There seem to be more than 1 scenery configuration editors available.
Any advice on which one to use? And where to download from? I hate malware sneaking in my system, so I'm getting careful about where to download from...
Thanks for all your information.

Use this one. It works in P3D even though it doesn't specifically say so at the top of the page.

OK, I downloaded and installed the scenery config tool. Thank you.
Now, I'll have a look and see how it works.
I read in the users instructions that it could also help to get the loading up time down, but that it was not proven.
Lately (since I bought the majority of the ORBX sceneries at the X-mas action), I noticed indeed that I have to wait minutes before FSX really starts up. Most of the time seems to be spend from 70% on, when it says it is loading up the autogen scenery.
Any explanation for that or ways to get around it?
Cheers.

There is an option in one of the menus to renumber the scenery file. Run that and it will speed up load time some by cleaning up your file. Do a backup first in case of error.
