The Lodge at Black Rapids - Open for business
« on: November 16, 2016, 09:32:52 AM »
This is a new REAL location we are putting in just north of 5BK, Black Rapids Airport. We have permission from the owners to use this and Steve is making a "lodge object" that is darned close to the real thing. We are going to add a bit of fiction to it by adding a "dock store" and we will put in a small airstrip behind the lodge with a helipad. None of these are really there, but without these, people wouldn't "visit" and see the great Lodge building Steve is building. So these little fictional alterations will give us float plane, tundra and helo access.

This one will also be a "season switcher".  The highway you see is the Richardson Highway. This one has an interesting "Roadhouse" that they have restored ... something that was originally there years ago for this area. We have tried to duplicate that roadhouse.  You can see the real lodge HERE and read about the restoration of the Roadhouse HERE.

Once you read through the website ... you might be wanting to call them for reservations! What a beautiful place and the food ... oh the food! :-)

As we move up the pipeline, we'll be putting some of these locations off to the sides of it to give folks a better feel for the area. We thank the folks at "The Lodge at Black Rapids" for allowing us to depict their fine facility as we move north laying the pipeline.

Notice the reflections. This is something I didn't pay much attention to until now. Reflections (in P3D). You especially notice them when you are flying low and are "in motion".  Pretty amazing feature. And I'm finding it doesn't tear up the frame rates.  I do get hit pretty hard on shadows ... especially along the pipeline. I think this is because each section is throwing a shadow and there are a lot of them, so I turn that feature off.

Interesting - the book "Alaska's Wolf Man" by Jim Rearden tells the story of one of the original owners. He walked up the Valdez Trail around 1915 and bought the Black Rapids Roadhouse around 1922 as I remember....

Yes, this is a fascinating historical place. Boy, when you read up on their website ... this is a MUST SEE place if you are driving up the Richardson Highway to Fairbanks. Looks like the food and accommodations are outstanding.

The screenshot is "noseason" and you can see the basic layout of the lodge complex.  The real lodge doesn't have the airstrip, helipad or dock area. But to make it more fun for our folks, I added these fictitious items for us. Mostly, people either drive to it or fly in to 5BK, about 5 clicks south. We should have it "up and running" sometime soon.  Working now on the seasons and Steve is making some small additions.

Looks great Doug and look like it will tie in beautifully for side trips as you work north along the BWEP.

Landmark Gap Resort, Lake Louise Lodge that Venture off the Glenn Highway a short 16 miles, to Lake Louise Lodge: great side trips and gives great opportunity to explore in the bush...

Great job Doug and looking forward to taking a trip to your The Lodge at Black Rapids.

The project is coming along fine.  All of the 4 seasons are complete. We are only waiting on a couple of things and we will be ready to launch this one.  There are a "lot" of things to see here.  Here are some screen shots of what you can expect.

And some more shots of The Lodge at Black Rapids.  We have integrated the pipeline with the location. The pipeline runs behind the complex toward the mountain end of the airstrip. Brad has "buried" the pipeline at the end of the airstrip (to keep those REALLY LOW fliers from disrupting the oil flow!).  Don't forget you can click on a pic to magnify it. If you click on the one with the pipeline, you can see how he has re-routed the pipeline to perfectly match the complex.  Notice also the new lodge that Steve W has built for us from scratch and the new signs.  This one will be fun!

That looks very nice!  I especially like the photo-similar lodge.

Great job!

Tell the chef to throw a couple of Cariboo steaks on the grill.  I'm on the way!

The steaks are on the grill, Spud (cold beer in the snow drift just ouside the door).  The beta for "The Lodge at Black Rapids" has been sent to the RTMM team for review.  Once we fix the details, we will turn it loose to the community.

Still adding the little tweaks that will make it great. Here's the latest shot of the dock area in summer.

Re: The Lodge at Black Rapids Now OPEN!

The Lodge at Black Rapids is now OPEN for business.

This is another in the continuing series of locations that are being placed "along" the BWEP pipeline route. When BWEP Richardson Highway comes out (soon), you will see the pipeline going across the back of the lodge property.

This location comes with the RTMM Season Switcher capabilities. New objects were created by Steve Weinkamer and Dex Thomas has added his magic putting AI Aircraft, floats and ski, out on the water in front of the Dock Store of the lodge.

We tried to make this as real as we could. We did add a couple of fictitious elements to make it more fun for our simming community. There is an airstrip, a helipad and a dock so we can handle all of our aircraft niches. To see the real lodge, and make this experience even more realistic, we suggest you go to the website for "The Lodge at Black Rapids".  They have a great website with a lot of information on the lodge and roadhouse.

Our special thanks to the management at The Lodge at Black Rapids for giving us permission to use their website pictures to make this a more realistic location for your enjoyment. You can contact them at: 877-825-9413 | 907-388-8391 or make reservations through their website listed above.

You will need Global Base and Global Vector for this scenery location. Although the real name of the facility is "The Lodge at Black Rapids" ... for our scenery library, etc, we are giving it a file name of "Black Rapids Lodge" so look under "B" on the Scenery page.
