SCE requires Java 1.5.0 to run. Help, please.
« on: August 30, 2016, 01:22:12 AM »
I am having issues with my Scenery Config Editor lately.  It won't start.  It pops up a message that it requires Java version 1.5.0.  That is strange, because Java updates itself frequently and is now up to version 8 update 102 or v1.8.0_102.  I can't get a hold of an older 1.5.0 version of Java.  Well, I could if I register with Oracle first.  But they want me to give them my work number, job title, and name of the place I work at.  That doesn't set right with me, so I didn't give it to them.  (they will give it out to third parties if they wish).  I think they want to know if I am a developer or IT professional, etc.

Anyway, is anyone else having this issue?  I update SCE to version 1.1.7, but that didn't fix it either.

EDIT:  I've learned that SCE is having issues with the latest Java update.  I've rolled back to a version I had archived on my storage drive.  I am now able to open SCE and use it again.  Yea!!

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?  ???

Hello,

I had the same problem, but by installing the latest version, everything is back to normal (using the installer that I downloaded).

Hi Nadine,
I am left wondering ... latest version of which? ???  SCE or Java?  Which version of it are you using?  I had the latest version of both, and it didn't work.  I rolled back to Java version 1.8.0_60, and it works now.

Thanks for the heads up Jeff. I was about to install the latest Java myself. What version of SCE did you roll back to?

Thanks for the heads up Jeff. I was about to install the latest Java myself. What version of SCE did you roll back to?

I guess it is a little confusing.  I am using the most current SCE, which is version 1.1.7.  I previously had 1.1.3 installed.  When I was troubleshooting this issue, I found out that SCE was up to version 1.1.7 now.  So I grabbed that one and installed it, hoping it would "fix" the problem.  It didn't.

Then I read on the Sourceforge forum that someone else had this problem and rolled back their Java to an earlier version (1.8.0_92 I think), which solved their problem.  I did the same, (but with version 1.8.0_60, as I had that installer on my computer already.) and sure enough, the issue is related to the latest update of Java (1.8.0_102).

So I rolled back Java, not Scenery Config Editor.  Clear as mud? ???

Sorry, I wanted to say reinstall the latest version of Java after downloading its installer.
My version of SCE is 1.1.6, I did not know there was a newer version.
My version of Java is 1.8.0_101-b13 and as for SCE I did not know there was a new version : "102".
