Want wildlife critters in the sim?
« on: February 15, 2016, 09:34:25 AM »
Hey gang,
cut n' paste of a post on the ORBX site:

Jeansy over at S.O.H. found this- works great. Play with the settings, heavy critters can cause FPS loss... but its pretty neat!

 Sue
icon14.png Freeware release: Wildlife+

I came a across a neat little addon called Wildlife+ that injects wildlife land air and water into the sim, both FSX and P3D including v2/3

It can be set to the region your flying ie, Australia you can have kangaroos jumping around or brown bears in the Nth America or zebras in Africa.

All the parameters can be adjusted from the amount of birds to the spawn distance and other net features, This program can be set to cater to your FPS and great for low flying

It also as a neat section in the menu for helos where you can capture an animal by netting it (ive yet to try it)

for a freeware program its well done,

you can find it at avsim>

Well ........... I guess the animals are smarter then I am.  Tried several times to figure out the instructions to install this download and either I'm doing it wrong or it doesn't work.  I can get it to unzip a folder in a temp. location and then the instructions make little or no sense.  For the time being I'm passing on this 'critter gitter' stuff as I don't want to muck up FSX/RTMM by not knowing what I'm doing.

I found this thread at hovercontrol.com.

It seems, others have problems with this tool as well.

Well, I've just installed it.  Seems pretty straightforward to me.  I copy/pasted the Wildlife+ folder into my P3D documents folder, then copy/pasted the Simobjects/animals folder into the main P3D folder so it could "merge" with the existing "animals" folder.  I dragged the Wildlife+.exe executable to my desktop for a link to it, but will be adding it to my "exe.xml" file ultimately so it starts with the sim.  After that, it should add a menu entry in the addons drop-down menu of my sim.  Viola, there you have it.

That being said, I haven't actually seen it yet.  The files are in place, but I haven't fired up the sim yet.  Will keep you posted if I see giraffes on Annette Island.   ;D

Eureka!!  It works just fine.  However, I do not recommend starting at Annette Island, or Ketchikan, or anyplace that is framerate intensive.  Trying to take off with a FPS of 1 is interesting, to say the least.  That being said, there is a pod of whales out in the bay.  That indicates that the program is working.  I haven't changed any settings yet.  I just threw it into my sim (as described above) and fired it up.  It promises to be a nice addon.  I have a popup configurator window that came up when I started my sim.  Also there is a menu entry added in my sim for it.  The install was very simple.  No need for a "temp" directory.  Just open the zip file and drag/drop the folders to the appropriate places.  (follow the included instructions).  ;)

Thanks Spud.   8)

Thanks for the link, Klaus.  I will parse back my settings to a more reasonable level, using the example provided at your hovercontrol link.  It seems some people are having trouble with the simconnect provided.  It is working fine for me though.  I am using it in P3Dv3.1, and the framerate issue is known when using the default settings.  It is highly customizable though, and I should be able to find settings that work for me.

Oh, ... no giraffes!   ;D

Well after 4 hours trying to get a critter to show I guess the simconnect I have isn't the right one. Program says its disconnected and it will not connect for me.  I have had the animals addon show up in the Addon menu of FSX twice and had it say it was generating animals one time but once again it just sits there doing NOTHING.  Clicking on any selection takes about 30 sec. to have any effect at all.
The lag in the program is so noticeable I would only be able to follow the dung trail the animals virtually leave behind!!!
I have downloaded three times, Installed 12 times and been working for over 4 hours on this thing and I'm about out of gas with it!
BTW, one time I had AVG declare it a VIRUS and remove it from my installation.

Addendum:
Decided to remove all Animal files from the HD and that took 20 min to perform due to the fact that it continued tell me that the files were in use??  Enough out spot damn spot!!

Been playing around with this for the last several days and really like it for the kind of flying I do - low and slow over the interior alaska tundra - adds to the immersion when your looking for the herds of caribou etc. I dialed my setting back after following a thread over at the hovercontrol site and don't see any effect on frame rates.

I agree.  Same for me.  It is very customizable.

edit:  It does affect my frame rates, but adds to the immersion.
