A tad off topic-has anyone had this
« on: September 14, 2015, 05:48:42 AM »
For which I apologise in advance.

 When I go to select an aircraft the pictures do no tally with the description. If you select using the description you get the correct air craft. Strange any idears

This is for fsx I forgot to say that.

I have had the same and it is very annoying.
I have uninstalled a bunch of add-on aircrafts (all freeware) that I did not use anyway and the problem has disappeared. But of course I do not know which one(s) caused the problem.
I now check every time I add a new one.
Cheers
Marcel

Good morning,
     I want to add that this is true for P3D as well.  Not sure what platform you are talking about here, but when moving aircraft from FSX to P3D, some will cause the sim to crash if not compatible.  So insert them one-at-a-time, and check if they are working before going any further.  Have a good day.   :)

My problem is with the payware Carenado 185. When I choose the Misty's livery in Select Aircraft it actually selects the default payware AC instead. No big deal, but annoying.

@jaspair
This is often caused if the responsible [fltsim.x] is not correct. (wrong assignment in one of the lines)
Which of the repaints are you referring to?
Additionally: Which FDE do you use? Carenado standard or Bernt Stolle modifications?

Hi Dieter. I'm using the standard C185F payware model. My problem is with the amphibian and the texture.misty in particular. The Misty texture is [fltsim.3] in a list of 0-5 so I don't see a problem there. The textures above and below that entry work fine. I'll attach the .cfg anyway. Maybe you can spot something I can't see.

Hi Lipra and Jsapair,
     What thumbnail.jpg is in the texture folders for those models?  Are they sitting just outside of the texture.N016MM, texture.misty, and texture folders, as I found mine were?  :-[ (P3D doesn't display thumbnails)  Place them inside their respective texture folders, and see if that clears it up for you.
     The thumbnailN016MM.jpg and misty.jpg will need to be renamed to thumbnail.jpg.  That is the filename FSX looks for in the texture folder of each aircraft.

Note:  If you have an aircraft without a thumbnail, just snap a picture of the plane.  Get pretty close, fill the frame with the whole plane.  Make it a JPG picture, with dimensions of about 272x150 or so.  Name it thumbnail.jpg and place it in the aircraft's texture folder.  Tada. 8)

There is also an auto-thumbnail utility available at:

@jsapair

Change you aircraft.cfg like this (in red):

[fltsim.3]
title=C185F SKYWAGON AMPHIBIAN Misty Taxi
sim=Carenado_C185
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=misty
kb_checklists=C185_check
kb_reference=C185_ref
atc_id=N484AK
ui_manufacturer="Carenado"
ui_type="C185F"
ui_variation="AMPHIBIAN"
ui_createdby="Carenado"
ui_typerole="Highwing single Engine Prop"
description="The C185, also known as the Skywagon, is a six-seat, single engined, general aviation light aircraft. The amphibian and float variations are widely used in Canada and in the North of the United States. Landing on lakes and rivers and flying at low altitude among narrow green valleys are the speciality of this bird."
atc_heavy=0
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=
atc_id_color=0x00000000
atc_id_font=Verdana,-11,1,600,0
visual_damage=0
//ui_thumbnailfile=misty.jpg

As Jeff already correctly described above, rename "misty.jpg" into "thumbnail.jpg" and put it in the \texture.misty folder

Do the same with your
[fltsim.5]
title=C185F SKYWAGON AMPHIBIAN N951LW
...
ui_variation="AMPHIBIAN"
...
//ui_thumbnailfile=thumbnailXX.jpg
Rename it "thumbnail.jpg" and put it in the \texture.N951LW folder.
Many greetings
Dieter

Hi Jeff
As I am always for the easiest solution, I tried yr flight sim link.
But I get the message: "No Files matched your search criteria".
A typing error in the link? Or anything else wrong?
Cheers

Hi Marcel,
     Me too.  You may be required to sign in to flightsim.com before being able to search for files.  The "search ID" numbers are now different than the link I posted.  I don't know why they would change, but that is giving the error.  So my link is now broken.  (liking flightsim.com less and less as time goes by.)

Do a search for the filename of "autothum.zip", in the flightsim.com search engine.  (without quotations, of course)

No luck on the Misty's Amphibian livery. For one thing, for this particular plane anyway, all the thumbnails are listed under the main c185 Amphibian folder. Same for the Tundra, Float and Ski models. Moving them from there to the corresponding texture folders results  in the big blue question mark in Select Aircraft. So that's where it wants to see them. So under the main c185 Amphibian folder I already have thumbnail, thumbnail0, thumbnail1, thumbnail2, and thumbnailxx for my existing liveries. They all work just fine. I renamed the Misty.jpg to thumbnail3.jpg. Shouldn't matter what you name it, actually, as long as it jives with the .cfg. Anyway, same problem. I select the Misty's livery and it goes back to the default AC. The .cfg addition was just a simple cut/paste from this site under Misty's Repaints but I never have been able to get it to work. If I select Misty's livery and hit Details it shows the correct tail # in ATC Info but the picture is the default plane. Beats me.

@jsapair
If I wouldn't know better I'd said you must have a different FSX system and a different Carenado C-185 software than me   ;)

I renamed the Misty.jpg to thumbnail3.jpg.
I never advised this. What happens if you strictly follow my advice above?
(Is this FSX or P3D?)

OK Jeff
I could download the program.
Link is http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?searchid=40810799
In the meantime I have also tried some manual changes and they work also.
Making a screen shot, changing it to a jpg file of 256*125 pixels and putting it in the texture folder of the aircraft.
For this kind of picture manipulations I use nowadays Irfan View; a very simple freeware program that I can recommend. Especially the saving feature that allows you to preset a maximum file size is quite handy.
Cheers

FSX Gold DX10. The plane is C185 SKYWAGON BUSH FSX from the Carenado web site. I did, Dieter. It only added the word AMPHIBIAN to the C 185 Misty's thumbnail in Select AC. Also, if I move the thumbnail to the Misty's texture folder I get no picture at all in Select AC...just the ?. Also as I mentioned there are no thumbnails in any of the texture folders...they are all in the main c 185 folders for all models. Why it picks the default AC for the Misty's livery and none of the other add-on liveries I have no idea.  :o

  Marcel, I also use Irfan View. Great little program for photo editing. I use it to convert my screenshot Bitmaps to .jpg, too. Simple.
