missing textures around Herring Bay Cannery
« on: August 22, 2015, 04:03:25 PM »
When I was making a boat trip from Misty's place to Herring Bay Cannery, I noticed black spots on the shore starting around the cape under Saxman; see attached pictures.
It's obvious that I am missing textures, but which ones?
I did the RTMM tester and everything was ok.
So whom elses' textures am I missing? I this a Tonga X area or an Orbx scenery?
I there a way or a program to know which scenery textures you are missing in FSX?
thx for yr support.
Cheers
Marcel

Hello Marcel,
That is in Orbx territory.  Do you have the payware PAKT installed, with it's service packs?  It doesn't look like you have that payware package.  It's just an observation.  I'm not saying that's your problem.  It is actually recommended NOT to have that airport installed. (but a lot of us do anyway)  It is a resource hog, and takes up a lot of real estate.  But whatever.  Those missing textures might be street lights, telephone poles, etc.  Just a guess.  :-\

Wish I could help.  :-\

When posting screenshots of problem locations, please give lat and long so we can go to the exact location where the problem exists. Even though you gave us the general area, it's often like looking for a needle in a haystack.

This almost looks like a case of slow loading textures due to GPU overload. What happens if you pause the sim for a minute or 2? Do the textures load?

+1 on the cordinates ualani mentioned.
I notice that it appears your using a watercraft and not an airplane in the screenshots.  Do the black squares appear if your in an airplane?  Not sure if it makes a difference but trying to touch all bases on the problem.
It appears that it might be street lights but in FSX (DX9) there are no lights on the South Tongass Highway.
Lastly, do you have Tongass X scenery in your sim.  RTMM does use scenery objects from that payware and if it is not installed you will have anomalies in some RTMM scenery.

I was thinking the same thing.  :P  But boating is pretty slow in itself.  And I don't think a boat or plane would be different, Spud.  It could be duplicate textures though.  But probably not, if it's lights on shore.  Or . . . guess I'm done guessing.  :-\

Perhaps Marcel uses FSX DX10 without installing DX10SceneryFixer of Steve ?

Yes, I hadn't thought of that.  I am in P3D now.   :-[

Thank you very much for all your suggestions.
Since the problem is not solved, I herewith give some additional information.

1. this is my configuration, not exactly a computer that is not able to digest the workload, I assume:
Corsair 780T +Corsair PSU 1000w
MBO Asus Max Vii Hero
Intel i7-4790k
Corsair H100i GTX cooling
G Skill 16gb 2400/CL 10   (2x8gb)
Geforce GTX980 4gb ddr5
SSD 850 pro 512gb
2Tb HDD WD black 7200rpm
LG Blu Ray Writer
Wifi pci-exp  N900 (dual freq  2.4+5ghz)
Win7 Ult OS 64bit
FSX acceleration

2. Coordinates
Attached new pictures of the problem, taken at N 35°20.26' / W131° 40.16' + pakt

3. I run no other payware scenery than PFJ, PNW, SAK, Tonga X, I also disconnected all other freeware scenery Except RTMM.

4. I paused the flight sim several times, even up to 10 minutes, but no change.

5. I tried not on the ground, but in a plane, no improvement.

6. If you cannot help me, I'll go to Orbx. But it's sometimes tough to get the message through. Uploading a simple screenshot requires nearly a doctor's degree.

So I'd be glad if you want to take a second look...
Cheers
Marcel

You do not tell us if you have checked the preview Direct 10 or not in FSX ?
And, if so, whether or not you use the Addon DX10 Scenery Fixer ?

Your hardware is at the top ;)

Hi Marcel,

The coordinates you provided have an error...your pictures are taken at N55 degrees not N35....probably just a typo.   Your last picture is a shot of  PAKT airport and verifies that you are not using the payware ORBX PAKT...."+ pakt" confused me at first.

I am not able to reproduce your problem though I have the same  CPU and Graphics card as you do.  Where you have black square textures, I have no objects at all whether I have ORBX lights on or off.  Handie makes a good point.  Are you using DX10?

Give the lady one silver dollar!  Handie has the problem figured out.
Attached is a screen shot duplicating marc's problem.  He has the DX10 "PREVIEW MODE" active in his sim and apparently does not have Steve's DX10 Fixer program.  I checked DX10 PREVIEW MODE in my FSX (DX9) installation and went to the coordinates in the screen shot and see balck squares all over the scenery.
Marc, just uncheck the DX10 PREVIEW MODE and the problems will go away.

Indeed Nadine thank you, you have a very sharp view.
I owe you a good belgian beer, or if you prefer some nice belgian "chocolade". You're only living a 100 miles from Antwerp, so you have every chance to come and collect it.
In the meantime I saw another "anomaly" in the same area: N55°20.84' W131°39.22'.
What is that ship doing in the prairie...?
Cheers

A Tsunami will do that!  :o  Godzilla!  :o  Tornado!   Five thousand determined and bored people could move it there.  Or one Jedi!  Twilight zone situation, . . .  ;D

Where is your western split around Gravina Island?  Shouldn't that be water where the cruise ship is sitting? ???  It could just be that angle of the picture, throwing off my perception.   :o

Jeff,
I agree it looks like the water body is missing but even then there are no ships that size that use that strait in FSX that I know of.

Marcel,
Next Question do you have the Ketchikan Harbor scenery?  the one by Rod Jackson updated on 02.05.2012?
If so you MUST have the ORBX PAKT Ketchikan airport payware which from your screen shots you do not have.  Notice that the download page has a NOTAM that it is only for that ORBX Payware Airport.
If your trying to run the Ketchikan Harbor scenery delete it from your FSX Scnery Library and I bet the errant vessel will go bye bye.
