Marcel,
check your FSX settings and make sure they match the ones in the screenshot.
Ignore the 10m mesh setting and set Mesh Resolution at 5m

Click screen shot to enlarge.

Hi Spud
It's like magic.
I did what you said and I could make this wonderful tour in all it's beauty.
At some points, I had to push te boat back into the water, because the current had drifted me away. But that's part of the fun.
Thanks to all the people who make these wonderful adventures possible.

Now I "caught it".  For some reason P3D just stopped working today. I was having trouble with Plan-G and later found out the plan I had made was corrupted and it would not let P3D load, the "startup scenario" which I have "on" wouldn't come up. The P3D screen came up, then just disappeared, no P3D at all.

So been reinstalling all day, finally got P3D working again. All is well except the Tongass Area ... and nothing but trees at Wrangell (no water) and screwed up water levels at Sitka ... so I think the problem is with Tongass X. I reinstalled it (using Estonia Migration), and have the same problem. Mesh is at 5.  I look at the FSAddon link and signed up for the forum, but didn't get "authorized" yet ... so I don't know what Holger's text there says. If it works, it is something we should put on our site I think. If anybody has it, shoot it at me. I'm totally out of ideas.  The Misty's Place area is fine ... so it is something unique in Tongass.

Hi Doug,
Be sure your scenery library has the TFX Higher and Lower files below FTX.
I also seem to be trying to recall something about the terrain.cfg file needing a duplicate or something.  I can't remember.  I should look it up.
Make sure there are no "duplicates" of the Tongass Fjords Higher and Lower priority files in your scenery library.  Like one set where they should be, and another at the top of the stack.   :-\
I've been having crashes due to bad flighplans also, but I switched it so the default flight always pops up now.  Then I create a new flight from the window and DON'T SAVE IT.  Just go flying/boating and have a good trip.  Sometimes if you save the flight, then load it, it will crash the sim.   :(
So I don't save flights now.   :'(  And it always pops up that F-22 on the east coast.  Who says "yay" when that comes up?  Not me.  Anyway.   ::)

Good points all, Jeff.

Got Tongass higher and lower below FTX, also higher above lower. Mesh is at 5. Last time this happened all I did was reinstall Tongass (using migration tool). Maybe if I get that thing Holger wrote it will solve the problem it is in FSAddon, but I wasn't registered, so couldn't see it. Maybe the answer is in there. Out of ideas after spending 9 hours on this...Gave up and watching old "24" reruns. :-)

Hi Doug,

A couple of thoughts for future.  If P3D won't start, the first thing to do is to disable your Prepar3d.cfg file and let it rebuild a new one.  That would have got you past the startup scenario.   Also, when you reinstall Tongass using the migration too, you have to make sure you have moved the terrain.cfg back to the main Prepar3Dv2 folder from its new location because that is where Tongass looks for it when it installs.  After the install then you have to move it back.  Sometimes even that doesn't work.

To fix Tongass, I believe you are talking about putting in Holger's terrain config block.  I will send it to you via mail along with Holger's install instructions.

I seem to remember a recent conversation about the importance of making complete back ups on a regular basis.... :)

Steve, the key to the backup is which cfg you back up and where you put the backup back in.  P3D and FSX dribbles different copies of these into dif places. As I understand it, the Prepar3d.cfg in the P3D folder is only a template for making a new one...as in the process Rod outlined...something I should have done for sure! I "think" the terrain.cfg that is active is in the Program Data folder., that's the one I should be backing up. The active Prepar3d.cfg and the  active scenery.cfg are in the Users area. This means those are the cfg's to back up, and then installed back into these proper places. I had backed up the wrong ones, and put them back in the wrong place.  Result=trees!

Do you and Rod agree I now have the active/placement correct in my thoughts above? 1) I should have dumped the p3d.cfg and rebuilt. 2) if I had trouble I had to have the CORRECT backups and replace them into the CORRECT slot, I didn't.

I'm taking a look at what Rod sent and will try to recover that way.  Thanks all, I'll keep you posted. Let me know if I am correct above.  I'll get it into our FAQ.

OK, the "Holger Fix" worked (what else is new? Holger always fixes things!!!)  That fix is a keeper. I'm going to create a section for it on tour FAQ page with the "solution" to this problem, before/after pics, etc.  Others will surely run into this (as I may also a year from now) and having the answer handy would be great.  I'll get on that this afternoon.  Thanks Rod and Steve (and Holger) for the help. Let me know about the placement of the active cfg's and I'll include that into a faq also.

I added and explained the "Holger Fix" to the terrain problem on the FAQ page under "T". So we will have it for people who have a problem in the future.  Again, thanks all.
