Downloaded the new 2.5 P3D but will wait to uninstall 2.4 and make the move.  ORBX is definitely working hard to deal with ObjectFlow dll compatibility and esp the change in folder structure concerning where files are located in 2.5.   I've seen plenty of "work arounds" and manual edits going on but I will not even go there!  I'd say to just relax, enjoy RTMM in FSX and P3Dv2.4 and be patient.  There will be updates soon enough.     :)

Just reiterate Do NOT install P3D v2.5 AND ORBX software.  ORBX has posts that Lockeed Martin's new v2.5 has major problems with ORBX scenery installation.  Wait until ORBX has worked out the problems with LM.  ORBX will announce when things are working again.

Well some of us like to piddle especially since we can always reload everything...lol.  I didn't uninstall anything on my setup except 2.4 and left everything else intact.  I did back up my terrain and scenery config files before doing so.  I thought I had the issue solved until I looked at the large water bodies in the sim. They were all wooded areas.  So that told me the issue was a terrain configuration one.

LM moved the terrain.cfg file out of the main P3D folder to a ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\ folder.  I copied the terrain.cfg file over to that location and now I see everything in the right perspective.

Pretty sure the 2 areas Orbx is working on fixing is "object flow" and the installers "FTX Central".  The current FTX Central applications update the terrain.cfg file in the old location.  I will assume copying the terrain.cfg file over the the Program Data location after applying all your regions would do the trick.

In other words, place a copy of the terrain.cfg in Program Data in the old location. Do your updates/installs, the copy the terrain.cfg file back to Program Data.

I may be off base, but it works for me.

I wonder why they would change that part of the file structure ... a "call" is a "call" regardless where it comes from. No wonder ORBX is going nuts. It would be interesting to know their "reasoning" for this. But your explanation is right on, Al and it makes sense.  I've got 2.5 ready to go, but like Brad, I'm going to enjoy flying for a while instead of messing it all up! :-)  I also understand now why FSDiscover! isn't happening ... the guy that makes IS3 makes FSDiscover!   Just about the time he gets the platform solid, LM changes the structure on him.  We may never see FSDiscover! again ... and that would be a real shame.

We really are pretty spoiled, if you look at the improvement of 2.4 over FSX, it is really amazing.

I have noticed a lot better frame rates and more vibrant colors in some situations.  It's my understanding that PrecipFX works 100% in v2.5.  I have that add-on loaded, but have not seen a difference yet.  The one thing PrecipFX did was to make the rain and snow look better. No more tunnel effect either.  Antialiasing still needs work, but other than that it does feel improved over 2.4 in some areas.  The bridges do look better and I haven't run into any shimmering yet.

Will have to hold off my scenery work until IS3 is updated, but I can wait.

Yay!!!  No more "cone of rain".  That is great.  Thanks.  Worth the $15 and website registration hoops, I'd say.  Looking forward to the precip effects for P3D coming soon.   8)

No more "cone".

Precipitation layer fills my triple monitor completely when zoomed out.  Yay!

How does precipFX tie in if you're already running REX and ASN? Does it just affect those particular textures? This is above my pay grade.

The new Orbx libs for P3D v2.5 are out.  I reinstalled the whole FTX/Orbx scenery universe yesterday using the new libraries and everything works wonderfully.  I did have to reinstall the new library files occasionally when FTX Central crashed with an error in locating terrain.cfg.

Here's the link and helpful info for reinstallation...

Hi guys,

For Tongass Fjords install, I used the following method:

1. Copy Terrain.cfg (make a backup) file from your c:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D folder to your main Preapr3dv2.5 folder
2. Create FSX.exe and place in main Preapr3dv2.5 folder (copy the p3d.exe and rename it)
3. Enable E*T tool
4. Install Tongass Fjords scenery, pointing to Preapr3dv2.5 folder
5. Disable E*T tool
6. Move terrain.cfg from Preapr3dv2.5 folder to c:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D folder

I hope this helps
