Some mods for the Carenado C185
« on: January 24, 2015, 09:01:09 AM »
Here’s some mods you might want to make to the Carenado C185

There is a set of flight dynamics by Brent Stolle which you may want to put in.  Most people who have used both, feel they are more accurate.  A quick Google search should find them.  They come with good instructions so they are easy to put in.  Be aware they replace both the aircraft.cfg and the airfile, so BACK THEM UP FIRST not only so you can change back, but so you can add any paints you have added to the new aircraft.cfg.

 For some reason, the pod door opens on the Amphib model, but not on the Ski, float, or tundra model.  Find the [exits] section of the aircraft.cfg and make sure it looks like this:

[Exits]
number of exits=4
exit_rate.0=1
exit_rate.1=1
exit_rate.2=1
exit_rate.3=1

 Also, for some reason Carenado  did not put in strobe lights on this aircraft.  If you wish to have them, add these two lines to the [lights] section of the aircraft.cfg.  This will NOT add a panel switch, but if you turn them on by other means (I have external Goflight light switches), they work.

light.6 = 2, -4.65, -16.75, 3.35, fx_strobe
light.7 = 2, -4.65, 16.75, 3.30, fx_strobe

Happy flying and if I find other mods I will add them to this post

Thank you for these. I've put them into mine and they work fine. Glad to have the strobes.  If you go to Ketchikan and watch the Beavers at work, they all have a slowly flashing landing light that they keep on all the time...and you need it with the flight seeing tours landing every 10 minutes, lots of traffic. I always hoped there would be a mod for that, but I've never seen one.nagain, thank you for the mods.

Thanks!   ;)  I knew there was stuff in there!!  I could hear it rattling around down there.  Thanks for getting that pod door open!   8)

I fly out of Ketchikan all the time and I know what you mean Doug.  I almost hit one the other day.  I'll look for the FX they use tomorrow and if it's possible I'll put in a set for you.  You'll probably have to turn off the strobes to use the landing lights though.

This replaces the C185 contact points in the aircraft.cfg of Amphibian.  Please BACKUP the aircraft.cfg and then replace the contact point section with these and test it.  It makes the floats float more level (without the tails so deep in the water AND gives it a more effective water rudder.  If you don't like it then replace the aircraft.cfg with the backup and you'll be back to stock.  Let me know what you think of it.

If it's any help, Aerosoft's Bush Hawk X has the slowly flashing landing light you mentioned. It's a neat feature, though I'm not a great fan of the aircraft in general. I wish I could identify which lighting file they used for it, but both strobes entries in the Bush Hawk X Amphibian's CFG are for "fw_Bushhawk_Strobes," and the Landing and Taxi lights are both listed as "fx_landing."

Anyone who likes the Carenado C-185 doesn't have the choice but to try the excellent freeware FDE files created by Bernt Stolle, a real pilot.
He offered his well done air files for the Carenado C-185 alredy several years ago.
The C-185 is a bit tricky to fly and these FDE doesn't make her esier to operate but more realistically.

Please refer to this side where it was discussed already:

Those look familiar to me. Have to check the .cfg and see if I already have them. I'm guilty of leaving extracted folders in my DL folder and then a year or so later go, Hmmm, did I install that already? But I'm sure we all do that.
