Missions in P3Dv2
« on: June 14, 2014, 09:46:26 AM »
Hey Folks,

Was wondering if anyone has installed the missions in P3D or even if they are compatible for P3D.

Thanks

Dayle

Hi Dayle,
Sorry for the delay in responding.  I was pondering your question.   ;)
Yes, I think they are.  I tried to add some to my P3D, but I haven't been able to get to them yet.   :-\

Quote from LM:

Prepar3D® has the capability of being enhanced by adding add-ons of Aircraft, Scenery, Missions and more.  These add-ons can improve your Prepar3D experience. Prepar3D is fully compatible with FSX SP2 add-ons, including freeware and payware applications.

Missions are accessed through the P3D "Load" button.  But pressing it causes CTD for me.  So I have to solve that problem first.  I added an incompatible aircraft, I think.  I haven't found it yet.  ???

Jeff, I enjoy the missions you write and I enjoy flying in P3Dv2 so I hope you can make this work. Many thanks for all your efforts and the work you do with RTMM. I am having loads of fun with this combination!
Cheers,

;D  Ok, I've fixed my problem.  8) I can load saved flights again.  I haven't tried to save one yet though.  It's too late tonight.  :o
???  I found out the missions are accessed while flying from the flight menu's "load" button.  Not from the "create scenario" screen's load button.  I will check them out some more when I have time.   ;)

Hey ya'll,
I am flying through the "Wing and a Prayer" mission in P3D.  Well, . . . kind of.  The "mission" won't work, but I can still load up the flight and fly it.  There's no briefing and no narrator.  But the flightplan is loaded, and the weather is a whiteout.

The missions don't work in P3D without some conversion steps.  I've discovered "Simdirector", and need to school myself on that stuff.  Dang, . . . more learnin'!!   :o

I'm sitting at Bowser Lake airstrip.

  . . . Parked at CZST.  I'll be in the pub.  ;)

I knew I had a thread for this topic already!  We should discuss mission conversions here.

I have found that the [ResourcePath] in P3D is simply a period and backslash (.\) instead of the relative path statement we're use to.  I need to get the mission files to link to each other in P3D.

Hi Jeff,
I have not been around Misty's for some time. I was around several years ago and had started work on missions but had to depart for various reasons.
I have continued my work with Missions for my other Flying Club and recently have begun the process of discovering how to convert them to P3D format.
I have been able to do so with a few so far; no rewards (none in P3D anyway) and limited to putting them in the Tutorials Category.
I use IMM as well.
If you can wait for me I will have a go at the Timuquon01 mission that I just downloaded and fill you in on what I did to get it to work for me. My time is limited so no promises on when I can give you any solid updates.

Hello Darryl and welcome back.  Thanks for wrapping your head around this conversion process.  I welcome any hints, tips, and advice you can offer.  It is something we need to know how to do.  Any help is appreciated and there is no real hurry.  Thanks again.  8)

I haven't seen the compass/pointer or heard a narrator in P3D yet.  So that will be a milestone for me.   ;)

Darryl,

I'm also very interested in your conversion notes so we can understand how to convert FSX missions to Prepar3D.

Thanks for your help,

Brad

I went through the tutorial they have for making missions in P3D ... little more complicated it seems. Is there an good "example" one anywhere that folks might want to look at? Perhaps just seeing it work in P3D might help understand the process better.

I have completed a conversion for the first Timuquan Mission for testing.
It is more or less the same as the original FSX mission.
As I have no different categories than those provided by P3D I chose to use the Tutorials Category for this test.
What's different?
a) The scenario requires the specification of a specific aircraft. I chose to use the default Maule Paint 1.
b) Although I did not change any trigger proximity settings I think that some of them may be a bit to close for casual users. 2000 lateral feet is a bit thin giving a latitude of +/- 1000 feet to trigger but that is only quibbling.

Please try out the "Mission" or perhaps we must now call then "Training Scenarios"?
Here is the link to the zip file:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/107722691/Timuquan01.zip

Copy it to your P3D Missions Tutorials folder and unzip there.

Then copy the flight plan file in the Timuquan01 tutorial folder to your P3Dv2 Files directory. The pgm does not like this not to be there unlike FSX.

Start P3D and set up a flight in PAKT with the Maule.
Once established then you can use the Load option to open the flight identified with the Tutorial.

The mission should load and after some dialogue eventually the pointer appears.

If everything seems t work out then I can put together a document explaining what I did.

I'm trying this now.  I'll let you know how it goes, of course.   ;)

. . . stand by . . .   :P

I installed mine into my "Return to Misty Moorings" mission folder, with my collection.  Except for a missing category header image, all works fine.   :)

:o . . . Time marches on, and evening takes it's toll.  (I fell asleep at my computer)  :-[

???     Well, it's the next morning.  But what a beautiful morning to be flying a mission in P3D that was designed in FSX.  I just passed Nina's Landing and the George Inlet cannery.  The narrator is enjoying the trip, and I am as well.  There is a compass/pointer to guide me through the journey, if I need it.   :P

Yes, I know the picture is dark.  But it is early morning, and overcast.  Notice compass/pointer in top/left corner.  I am flying an FSX mission in P3D!!

Thank you!!!   8)

I definitely like the progress report since I created these missions for Timuquan. I would appreciate the step by step process Darryl.

Thank you,

Brad
