QC for Locations Project Update - By Doug Linn

You will notice a small change on the scenery page ... there are now red, green and YELLOW lights on the locations. Since we've been asked about the lights, here's what they mean:

Red ... location has not yet been checked
Yellow ... location is checked, "fixed" file (if needed) is uploaded ... ready for QC
Green ... location has been checked for QC and is ready for "prime time!"

Yellow indicates to Spud that there is a file ready for QC.  This simplifies our communications. When he gives it the OK, then he lets me know and it goes "green."

We've got about 1/3 of them done, so the project is on schedule. We are finding VERY FEW problems with the conversion. We are checking in FSX and P3D. There are some "undefined models" but these are being eliminated with this process, and none of them have been major (a cabin, a pier, etc) ... just filler objects.

For the Flight Plans.zip ... anything that is Green or Yellow is in that folder now. Red has not yet been added.

QC Project Updates ...

First Quality Control (QC) pass completed. Almost everything has a green or yellow "light" on the logo. The ones that are red are going to take some special attention (ones with season switchers, etc).  I went through all of the locations looking for "alien" and "undefined" models (objects).  I deleted the Undefined Models, we didn't find any "alien" objects.  Everything is showing perfectly in P3D, FSX and FSXDX10. Next, we download those with a yellow light to make sure the downloads work correctly and that we have the necessary files for each location.  The lights will turn green as we go through this process.

Server Cleanup: I also cleaned up all of the folders on the server, over 300 of them. The only files residing on the server for each location now are the zip file you download and the map, thumbnail and large pictures that show on the web page.

Flight Plans - Every flight plan (from those that are green or yellow) are now in the Flight Plans.zip (Here to There Page/Flight Plans).  We had to make 3 new flight plans for locations that didn't have one. Any location that is an airport itself does not have a flight plan. You can download this zip, copy what is in the folder and paste it into Documents/Flight Simulator X Files/ for FSX or Documents/Prepar3D vx/ for Prepar3D.  This will give you flight plans for almost all of our sceneries. These all start with an "=" sign so they should all be grouped at the top of your Flight Planning Library. They are also in alphabetical order for the location name.

Dispatches Links --- were broken. Thanks to Rein Kamphuis (Netherlands) for spotting this for us. We fixed the links and Rein confirms they are now working. (We really appreciate people letting us know when something is out of place or not working). Fixing those makes the site better for everyone. "Hat Tip" to Rein!

"How to Install" Button: We know there is a problem with some of the "old" installation instructions in the old readme.txt files. Many discuss the old scenery libraries and how to download and install them. We've put a new ReadMeFirst.txt in to all of the updated folders.  Also, there is a new little button on the button row at the bottom of each scenery location ... "How to Install".  That is a button that links to a FAQ discussing how to install our scenery locations here at Misty Moorings. I'm sure we will be expanding that FAQ ... but for now it is a reminder that some of the old instructions are no longer valid.

Taku Lodge: We also received permission from Holly Johnson at Taku Lodge to use their name and logo. We sent Holly screen shots of the lodge and she has thanked us for them. So now that we have permission, we can repost Taku Lodge. This is a beautiful piece of work done by Xavier and Jacques ... it was a shame to keep in hiding ... now it is where you can get it yourself on the Scenery Page.

Cabins by the Lakes - by Brad Allen

Cabins by the Lakes is now the "featured" scenery location on the ""Here to There"" page.

"Here to There" http://www.return.mistymoorings.com/here_to_there/

This is a set of 30 cabins located up in the SAK region. Brad created these so we could all get a better look at this new territory.

All of the starting points for all THIRTY of the cabins are now on the Starting Points page on the "Here to There" page. If you click on the name of the location at the starting point, it will bring up the map so you can view what your flight would be like. Also, all of the flight plans were renamed so they could fit alphabetically into the Flight Plan.zip file you can find on "Here to There".

If you like Bush Flying at its best, tiny cabins to find on beautiful lakes ... this is a "must have" package. As much fun flying TO them is using the Starting Point to start at the cabin, see the cabin, then fly BACK to the nearest airport "direct" on the GPS.  Either direction, the view is beautiful. Now, with the starting points, you can do both.

If you don't have it, get it. But go take a look at the example screenshot on the "Here to There" page.

New "Here2There" topic on the top page header!

People can now quickly get to the new "Here to There" or "Here2There" page. Look at the top header on the far right, and you will see the new link that takes you right to the page.  (Dan came through again for us!)

Season Switcher FAQ and Button

A new FAQ has been posted for the RTMM Season Switcher, there is a zip download button there so people can download the program.  You can see it here. Every time the Season Switcher is mentioned on the Scenery Page or elsewhere, we link to that single place. So when/if we make an upgrade of that program, we will only have to change it in one place and everything will automatically point to it.

CIRP Progress for New Libraries

We are now focusing on C.I.R.P.   You can find it HERE. (Scenery Page, under "C").

Encountering VERY few problems ... a few "undefined objects". The file/folder structure is being cleaned up on the server. We will soon have this section DX10/P3D ready.  This is such a spectacular scenery set.

RTMM Docks (For Tongass X)

Tucked into many of the commercial packages we have are tiny docks and communities that don't show up as airports, yet they are beautiful locations and wonderful starting points. As we run across these, we'll put them into RTMM_Docks. This can be found on the Scenery Page under "R".  Also, all of these are included on the Starting Points table on the Here to There page. They have a "#" sign after them so you'll know which they are.

REVERSED flight plans ... Plans from the LOCATION to the AIRPORT

All of our locations have flight plans and maps so you can find your way to them.  But what if you want to start at an RTMM scenery location (e.g. Herring Bay Cannery) and want to fly back to the airport?  We now have a full set of "reversed" flight plans ... plans that guide you from the LOCATION  to the AIRPORT.

There are now two (nearly) complete flight plan sets you can download and these will give you directions to/from (almost) all RTMM locations.

1. Airport to Location Plans ... these are the typical FSX/P3D flight plans. Except we have renamed them and put a "=" sign ahead of the title to keep them grouped and at the top of your flight planning folder.

2. Location to Airport Plans ... these are also typical FSX/P3D. We have also renamed these with the name of the Location first with a "#" sign in front of the name, which groups them and keeps them toward the top of your flight planning folder.

After you have these installed, you can be at a location, go to your flight planner, look up the location (alphabetically), making sure it is the Location to Airport plan with a "#" ahead of the name, enter it ... and you have a plan to fly back to the airport ready on your GPS.

Both flight plan sets are now available on the HERE to There page.

Notice both buttons show an "update" date, so you can always be sure to have the latest. We are still building these files. (CIRP is now built into them, a change from 3 days ago.)

Maintenance ... You do not need to put all of the flight plans in, you can choose the ones you want, copy/paste.  Also, if you put them all in, and later do not want them, then you simply go to your documents folder where they are stored and delete them.

For FSX, these will be placed in ...Documents/Flight Simulator X/
For P3D, these will be placed in ... Documents/Prepar3D V.x/

CIRP added to Starting Points and Flight Plans

All of the CIRP locations (Including Soule Glacier and Bear River Lodge) have been added to the Starting Points table (all indicated with (CIRP)). Flight Plans were made for R & R Lodge and Soule Landing, including maps.

The Airport to Location and Location to Airport zips are updated with CIRP additions. These found on the HERE to THERE page.

CIRP is "Green" ...and a few more!

1. C.I.R.P. ("C" on the Scenery Page) is now fully FSXDX10/P3D ready.

2. Hollis Harbor and Halibut Cove are now ready and "green."

3. The Northern Air Cargo (NAC) bases and outlying areas are all "green". We created a flight plan from Juneau for this one and a new map. The starting points are all on the Starting Points Page now. (This is a very well-done package, you should look at it).

4. I put "back to top" spacers between the alphabetical listings on the Starting Points Page . The list is so long now that if you get "down into it" it is hard to return, now you can click on the spacer and it will take you to the top of the table.

5. The Flight Plan Zips were updated.

We have only a few left to "QC" and we are working on those.

A Misty Tale - A story by Bryan Kirk
FedEx Combined Terminals

A Misty Tale
Bryan Kirk contributed 3 chapters of "A Misty Tale" to the site back in 2005.  Brad recently remembered this effort and I pulled down from the old site and "updated" it with all the pictures so it could be viewed on RTMM. This is a story about the background of Misty's Place.  We wish Bryan was still around to write a few more chapters for us.  Thank you Bryan (where ever you are) and hat tip Brad!

You can see it HERE

FedEX Combined Download Package

We have combined the 9 separate FedEx terminals into a single download, fixing the scenery as we went to make sure everything was compatible. The new package is ready. If you downloaded any of these before, delete the folders and "areas' from your simulator and add this one folder.

IMPORTANT NOTAM now on FAQ Page
Web Site FSX/P3D Update (Under "W")

We are basically finished with the massive conversion process on the scenery location and object libraries to be fully compatible with FSX, DX10 and P3D.  We are one of the first sites in the flight sim community to have accomplished this. Because of the conversion process, there are questions people are having.  I've put a FAQ up under "W" so you can look at how the process was accomplished and it should answer many of your questions (Should I re-download everything?).  (NO!) and it is explained there as to why or why not. There are "updated" instructions in many of the older NOTAMS on the notams page ... instructions on updates on anything before 2014 should be considered "outdated". We are going to leave the NOTAM page intact for historical reasons, but instructions for updating prior to 2014 should be disregarded.

The new Web Site FSX/P3D Update FAQ is HERE

Annette Island Fly In - updated

There was a problem with the Annette Island Fly In scenery in P3D. That problem has been corrected and you can download the new file at the Annette Island Fly In location on the Scenery Page. A NOTAM for it is posted to let you know that it was updated.
