POP Project - Library Consolidation

Our main developmental thrust at this time is in converting and reorganizing the object libraries. Our goal is to have the RTMM site compatible with FSX, FSXDX10 and Prepar3D.  As you know there are thousands of objects, some even automated. Steve Weinkamer and Rod Jackson are spearheading this effort for the team.  They are using a two-step conversion process to make all of this happen.  This is an excerpt from Rod's latest status report (these can always be found on the Objects Library page at the top of the POP section or HERE --> http://www.return.mistymoorings.com/object_libraries/index.php#pop

Here is the Plan for Library Consolidation.

CeyX_Sceneries_Libraries_2013_07_15FSX10 (417 MB Unzipped)
Partial OZx Replace LIBS 4-XX-14 FSX10 (370 MB Unzipped)
RTMM Object Library 4-XX-14FSX10 (690 MB Unzipped)
EZ Scenery LibraryFSX10 (900 MB Unzipped)
RWY12 LibraryFSX10 (250 MB Unzipped)

Partial OZx Replace LIBS would include the consolidation of:

mwl LibrariesFSX10
kh LibrariesFSX10
UKVFR LibraryFSX10
* Utilities which have now been developed to turn off/on the unconverted counterparts of
these libraries inside the OZx_LIB folder.

The RTMM Object Library would include the consolidation of:

RTMM Object Library 3-18-14FSX10
FinneyAir_FSX_Strobe_CollectionFSX10
Lens_EZ_WildernessFSX10
SDTV2_Object_LibraryFSX10
Westwood Inn ObjectsFSX10
Woody's Additional LibrariesFSX10

All sub object libraries will start with "FSX10" which would then cause them all to be grouped
in IS together so that RTMM developers don’t accidentally pull an object from a non-FSX10
library. The only other object libraries RTMM developers would use are the native
FSX/P3D/Acceleration and Tongass Fjords X libraries. This would mean that other than
payware, RTMM users would only have to download 5 library sets versus the 10 sets they have
to download now and the 5 library sets would be downloaded directly from the RTMM Site.

Misty Moorings Oil Platform Services

Misty Moorings Oil Platform Services (OPS) - Updated (by Doug Linn) When the new SAK for FSX and P3D came out, the terrain in this area was significantly different. The location has been updated to handle the new terrain parameters for FSX/SAK and P3D/SAK.

A new runway was built, longer, and better lighted for night time operations.

Library Update
« Reply #2 on: April 19, 2014, 07:51:20 PM »
We are in an awkward time right now, sort of "between" libraries. Rod and Steve are continuing the project of the double conversion process for upgrading the scenery object libraries to handle both FSXDX10 and Prepar3D. We test them a section at a time. Rod will soon be combining some libraries and we will be testing those to make sure they come to you error free.  I have been testing them, and right now have more libraries than I've ever wanted, I will be happier when they are combined.  When we are finished, we hope to have a better product for you and LESS LIBRARIES to download.

One breakthrough we had this week was enabling of the flashing buoys. The objects ceased to function in FSXDX10 and Prepar3D. Rod found a way around the problem and we now have all of them working. (This would have meant a replacement of over 1500 objects, which we will now NOT have to do).

Using the improved objects, I have done a complete remake of RTMM MM Oil Platform Services (Again). I am looking at it in both FSXDX10 and P3D. It is ready for download, but again, between projects, some of the objects may not yet work for you until we have the libraries ready. This scenery location now works the same for both FSXDX10 and P3D, our first. There is not much we can do right now creatively because all the time and effort is going into upgrading the libraries.  Be patient with us and we'll have you covered in FSXDX10 and Prepar3D ... and Misty will always be as beautiful as ever.  This is a huge undertaking the team has taken on ... but progress is excellent.

Doug/RTMM
PS: Don't forget you can click on any pic in the forum and it will go to full size for you.

RTMM Library Consolidation Plan    (updated 4/29/14)

(This from Rod's latest POP Status Report that you can always find on the POP Project area of the Object Library Page).

Consolidate libraries such that we have the following single zipped library download of less than 800 MB that then unzips into 5 libraries ready for installation:

CeyX_Sceneries_Libraries_2013_07_15FSXP3D      (421MB Unzipped)
OZx_LIB SUB Library FSXP3D 5-XX-14    (370 MB Unzipped)
RTMM Object Library FSXP3D 5-XX-14       (694 MB Unzipped)
EZ Scenery LibraryFSXP3D  5-XX-14        (880 MB Unzipped)
RWY12 LibraryFSXP3D  5-XX-14          (245 MB Unzipped)

OZx_LIB SUB Library (SUB for Substitute) would include the consolidation of the following FSXP3D libraries that will be enabled for use instead of their old counterparts in OZx_LIB (utilities included to enable/disable the proper libraries in OZx_LIB):

mwl LibrariesFSXP3D
kh LibrariesFSXP3D
UKVFR LibraryFSXP3D

The RTMM Object Library would include the consolidation of:

RTMM Object Library 1-22-14FSXP3D
FinneyAir_FSX_Strobe_CollectionFSXP3D
Lens_EZ_WildernessFSXP3D
SDTV2_Object_LibraryFSXP3D
Westwood Inn ObjectsFSXP3D
Woody's Additional LibrariesFSXP3D

All sub object libraries (except for the CeyX libraries which all start with CX because RTMM developers are no longer approved to place objects using this library) will start with "FSXP3D" so that RTMM developers don’t accidentally pull an object from a non-FSXP3D library and can quickly find our converted set of libraries.  The only other object libraries RTMM developers would use are the native FSX/P3D/Acceleration libraries and the Tongass Fjords X libraries.  This would mean that other than payware, RTMM users would only have to download 1 zipped library set, directly from the RTMM Site, that unzips into 5 library installations  versus the 10 sets they have to download now from various sites....a huge improvement.

POP Update from Doug: Last night we finished testing the FSXP3D-EZ Scenery file.  Thousands of objects and they all look terrific in FSXDX10 and P3D. (We are getting worried that our little test island, Kahoolowe, has so many objects on it that it might turn turtle and sink).  You can see the latest pics for Section 12 at the POP project area of the Object Library Page.

RWY 12 - Converted  (Section 13 at Kaholoowe)

We now have converted RWY12 ... shows fine in FSXDX10 and P3D.  Follow the POP project at the Object Library Page.

Here's what the Kahollowe Testing Ground looks like this morning with all the new "test"  libraries "added". The yellow squares are laid out first. The object is then placed on it. We know the square shows ok in DX10 and P3D ... so after object placement in FSX, when we go to P3D, if there is only a blank yellow square, then we know we have a problem.

Consolidated Libraries Initial Testing - (next, on to the Beta team)

The 5 necessary libraries for RTMM are now a consolidation of what we had before. All objects have been converted (in a two step process) and all are working in FSXDX10 and Prepar3D.  The screen capture below is our first "look" at the effect of the consolidated libraries.  The zip file took 14 minutes to download (Remember, this has EZ Scenery, Rwy12 and other BIG ones in it ... 14 minutes! Wow!). The next phase sends the file out to to the RTMM beta team for testing for 2-3 weeks. They will be looking at all of our areas (except PFJ ... since ORBX hasn't done that one yet) and reporting back on any problems they encounter with the objects.  This is a huge milestone for Steve Weinkamer and Rod Jackson who have spent HOURS AND HOURS on this project for all of you.  This is an amazing accomplishment on the part of these two team members.

Beta Object Library Page ....

You can watch us "design" the new Objects Library Page here:

http://www.return.mistymoorings.com/object_libraries_build/

None of the links are "hot" yet.  If you have comments on the design of the page, you can add those comments here:

Comment on it HERE

Everything is working and looking great in DX10 and P3D ... so the long hours of work by Rod are going to pay off for the whole community.  We are now in the "tweaking" stage getting final details correct before we launch the new libraries.

Owikeeno Lake Area - Updated - See README PDF HERE

Scenery: There are 33 (documented) scenery locations in this package. We designed this
package keeping three things in mind … helicopters, boats and airplanes! The linkage of all
the scenery location follows our standard of believing that “getting from here to there” is
probably more important than what you left behind in the rear-view mirror or see in the
windshield ahead. It is the journey that counts. With this package, you can get in a boat and
tour a beautiful lake, make many river runs and make long distance boat trips … even to Misty's
Place … miles and miles to the north.

River Runs: There are several “river runs” (or float plans) that are included in this scenery
package. Some of the rivers are accessible by only small fishing boats and some can handle larger
craft. All of the rivers are “river-scaped” meaning we have added interesting things for you to
see along the way. You will have a “starting point” (mooring point) for each river trip. You use
the “MAP” feature in FSX and put in the latitude and longitude coordinates along with the
heading, setting the altitude at zero, and you will be ready to begin your adventure. Those
coordinates are given for each float trip. All coordinates or “starting points” are in the Map
Room at Misty's Place.

PF50 Pacific Gateway Airport Updated: PF50 has been updated. It now has an NDB (PAGA) on 344. There is night lighting that can get you to the runway safely if you arrive after sunset.

If you have not downloaded Owikeeno Lake Area, now would be a good time. Also, for those of you using DX10 and P3D, the updated folder completes the experience for you.

TWEAKING for New FSXP3D Library - We are now going through a process of tweaking our scenery files to make sure they are compatible with all three platforms, FSX, DX10 and P3D. We are also changing or replacing objects that didn't show in one of the platforms, or ones that should not be in the scenery (wrong library). As we get these done, we will highlight the more important ones for you here in the NOTAMs.

Much of the work being done at RTMM right now is not so visible to our fan base. To give you an example, the "readme first" that is in many of our locations explains EZ-Scenery addition ... now not necessary with the FSXP3D libraries. So we are going through each download file and changing the wording. These kinds of things take time and are not to "news worthy". We will be having some new locations to support some of the new Airports coming out by ORBX. But most of our time is in "cleaning up" after the major changes we've made. Bear with us on the lack of news and know there is a LOT happening. (The RTMM team has not gone fishing!)

Post-Library Conversion Quality Control Beginning - On our scenery page, you will notice a FSX/DX10/P3D logo to the right of each scenery location. You will also see a red light or a green light there. We are beginning our final pass on all of the scenery locations making sure all of the objects are viable in each location (we had check them in the libraries, but now we are looking at them in their actual position). As we work our way through the many locations we have on the scenery page, you'll start seeing the red lights turn green. We are pretty sure that ALL scenery locations are working fine, but this is our own way of making sure for you. As we look at each location, we are also looking at the folder and file structure on the server making sure it is error-free. When a major one "turns green" we will post it here so you'll be sure to know about the latest update.

Quality Control Update
Spud and Doug are working on the QC aspect of the post-library conversion. We are not running into many problems. Hardly any with the objects. Mostly, we are cleaning up the files, putting a new ReadMeFirst into the folders and getting rid of some of the outdated ones (that discuss old library instructions, now out of date).

QC Approved: Baird-LeConte Glacier Tour, Bear Observatory, Big Fall Hydro, Bradley Lake Hydro, Brad's BBQ Skeena River, Dean River, Doug's Outfitters, Hugh Smith Lake Hatchery, Aiken Creen, Labouchere Saw Mill, Ocean Falls, Dora Bay Log Transfer, Fountain of Ute, Xavier's Cabin, Last Resort, Kimsquit River Run, Chitina Kennecot Area and Miller Lake.

The green light is now turned on for all of these.  There is no need to re-download any of these, the one with the biggest changes was Big Fall Hydro and Bradley Lake Hydro.  Also Dora Bay had many small boats missing that were replaced.

Note: Spud's "eagle eye" is really helping here. I make the corrections, post the location, Spud then downloads it to make sure all the folders are in order and all the housekeeping in them is correct. Once he tells me the final changes necessary, then after those are made, I turn on the green light. It is a great process. Hopefully this will keep RTMM Quality Control at the highest level for our fans.

"Automated Installation" for AI Shipping from RTMM for FSX and P3D!!! - by Rod Jackson

Return To Misty Moorings (RTMM) is proud to bring you the Return To Misty Moorings AI Shipping Project (RTMMAISP) Version 2.0. It is called V2.0 since it combines the original set of 4 RTMM shipping packages (PNWAISP v1.1, PFJAISP v1.0, TFAISP v1.0 and SAKAISP v1.0) while also adding P3D support along with FSX. If you use FSX and already have the 4 packages noted above then you do not require this newly combined package. However, if you are new to RTMM or now use or plan to use P3D, then this package is for you.

You can find this on the RTMM Shipping Page:

http://www.return.mistymoorings.com/shipping/index.php

That page has been revamped to handle the new project ... Is this for you? Probably, here's why:

1. If you have not yet put RTMM AI Shipping into your program, you are really missing something. We sometimes fly for long minutes and hours over water, it is the nature of our area. But amazingly, a ship shows up below. Drop down to it and see which one it is (you can track them on the Shipping Page, there are pictures of all of them). Liven up your water world!

2. If you have one or two areas installed, but not all of them, you can still use this installer, it will put in the tracks and the ships will be there for all areas.

3. You can use this installer for either Prepar3D or FSX. The program asks you for the root file for the program, once you enter that, the installer puts all four maritime areas into your program.

Rod Jackson has done an amazing job to make this a very easy installation for the RTMM fans. Many thanks to Rod (you can thank him in the News Comments Thread).http://forum.mistymoorings.com/index.php?topic=2043.0

New!  "From Here to There" web page launched!

The new ""Here to There"" web page has been launched.

http://www.return.mistymoorings.com/here_to_there/

You spend a little time prepping for your flight at an airport or SPB. When you land, you taxi to your final position and button down. However, with a flight simulator, you spend MOST of your time in cockpit as you travel "from here to there."  The Return to Misty Moorings experience is about the journey. We offer you excellent scenery locations for starting points and landings, some are highly complex. But our focus will always be on the journey. Our goal is to make that journey the most pleasurable experience you can encounter in flight simming.

The new ""Here to There"" page focus on getting from Point A to Point B. It gives you access to Dispatches, Missions, Trip Tickets, Flight Plans, lat/long starting points for all scenery locations (so you can start there and "fly back!).

We will also have a "featured location" that we will change often.  For years our highlighted scenery has always been the "latest one." But what about the "latest ones" from the past that are still among the most beautiful we have to offer? Our RTMM team will be selecting their "all time favorites" and we will be highlighting those.  For people who have come recently, this is a feature to check often as you will be flying the "best of the best."

You can get to ""Here to There"" from multiple places on the site. Misty's Place is still the key for navigating around the site. The button control panel at the top of that page takes you almost anywhere on the site. One of the new buttons is "From Here to There."   Notice the "starting points" button now puts you onto the new page, as does "dispatches" and "trip tickets."

There is another feature we are building into the new page, a complete set of ALPHABETICAL flight plans for every scenery location on the site.(  http://www.return.mistymoorings.com/here_to_there/#plans ). This is a work in progress and as we come through the QC program for the new libraries, we are adding these to that zip file .... you will see the latest date. When finished, you can download this file, put it into your documents area and have a flight plan for every RTMM scenery location, listed alphabetically.

We hope you like the new page .. .:

For Prepar3D Users only: Wake Update for RTMM AI Shipping - by Dex Thomas

An "effect files update" has been posted on the Shipping Page, you will find this just under the section for AI Shipping.  These are updated "effects". You copy them and paste them into your "effects" folder for your simulator, overwriting when asked. Very simple. This takes care of the "reddish" wakes that we were seeing.
