They must not have sassafras trees in the North West. The roots are wonderful smelling, and when boiled, taste like weak root beer. Sassafras tea anyone?

:o  Oh yeah, sassafras!  I hate sassafras.  It tastes like bad licorice to me.   :o  ... but a root beer float is creamy goodness.  No, we don't have sassafras trees here, as far as I know.   :-\  ;)

Ha, if I'm buying, you're stuck with Root Beer.  ;D

Yay!  More rootbeer.   :D

I wonder why they called it "beer"?  (... and what roots do they make it from, exactly?)   ???

Hello Mike, and welcome to RTMM.   8)

Hello Mike. I got a crate of Root Beer at PAKT. I forgot to bring to Misty's place before I left for Masset. Anybody's aloud to bring all 50 pounds of it (I ordered too much) on a short hop to Misty's if they would like.

All I ask is that you take screenshots ;D

I grew up with Hires and A&W root beer but they changed over the years.  Theu got weaker and I'm guessing it was when they removed the caffeine (if they actually had any to start with - not something you pay attention to as a kid!).  Barq's still adds it and the drink has far more bite to it.  Couldn't tell you when I last had any root beer, though.  It's usually ginger ale now.

Here is a cut n' paste from the link in my previous post in this thread.
Yep things changed in 1960 as the Government started taking "care" of us with more 'regulations and restrictions'.

"Then, in 1960, everything changed. The sassafras root, a key ingredient in root beer, was ironically banned by the U.S. Food And Drug Administration because it was found to be a carcinogen. Root beer was no longer considered to be good for you, nor did it have any roots in it. Companies then found artificial flavors to preserve the flavor of the sassafras root without actually using the banned ingredient. This experimentation led to the root beer flavor we know and love today."

They force fed 2,000 lab rats the equivalent of 9,000, 16 oz. bottles of sassafras based root beer a day over the course of an entire year. 3 of them got cancer. The rest of them gained 20 lbs. Thus the sassafras removal. This gave some other genius the idea to run the same tests on saccharin, producing the same result. So long saccharin as well. Then they tested DDT.....

One day they'll figure out that the water is what's giving them cancer and put it onto the carcinogen list.

Hi everyone,  well I'm not exactly "new" and I bet I already know a lot of people here going way back to the CFS and Emma Field days.  I've been out of flight simming for a while but forgot how fun it is so am glad to be back.  These days it won't be hard to find me flying helis in the sim.  :)

Have a great day,
LouP
