A look over my shoulders?
« on: February 14, 2011, 07:21:24 AM »
Well, you're getting it anyway. Here's what we have just bought for the MM flightseeing organisation. Ex-military, freshly converted by you know who. Paint and decore is going on as we read and write.

Here you can see where I am with high-detail interiors. These aren't your standard Aerosoft issue. I have scaled to a far higher level of detail for you, and as you will see, I now can add more detail. The seats have already been to the saddler for re-upholstering. There's fresh carpeting, although we will also have a wood-lined interior for carting fresh kill and maybe there'll even be a tread-plate lining for the odd box of fish or something.

If you look at the exterior view, you will see a misalignment of the old orange coastguard paint on the sides - it is for reasons like this (they align differently on almost each model) that I am making a brand new paintkit for each fuselage variation and appropriately a new paintkit for each interior variation.

Oh yes, and you are going to see this guy a bit more often around here ;)

Which reminds me - like the new company name?

That looks VERY nice (the plane, I'm not sure about the pilot!) ;)

Yeah, you want a pretty gal, I get you one...

Naah, I use the meaning as applied to tuning and tweaking cars - viz reality TV "Pimp my Ride".

Strange how words degenerate to totally new meanings over the years. The verb "to pimp" now has a totally innocuous new meaning and yet the original... well... like I said up there - I can get you some pretty ladies if you want.

Oh - of course - I am using ladies in a different sense too. The Beaver is the Sophia Loren of the GA world. Still looks good despite her age.

Now here's an example why the Aerosoft Beaver can be so awkward to skin. Two shots below - both for an 8 seater Beaver Amphibian. If you take the wireframe for the "amph.2" model and try to use it on the "amph.1" model you will see that the mapping is totally off.

Hang in there, if the rest of the cockpit will have the same detail as the manufacturer plate (nice touch on it btw) it's going to be incredible!  :)

Posted some teasers in the "Misty's Beaver" thread.

Mind you, there's days when you want to scream at a modelmaker and shake him by the gmaxes! These are the kind of inconsistencies we painters have to put up with...

I shall have to reove the seatback notice. As for the pilot's jacket, well...

Chris, I don't think most of us have a clue at the amount of work and aggravation that goes into doing something like this, that when finished, looks so simple.  Thanks for letting us peek over your shoulder, everyone will appreciate the final product even more.

I almost thought I had it done! And then I spotted a couple of small - but annoying - little touches needed. Still, you can have a look once more...

I'd say leave the seat label on, OK so one is mirrored, that's so your wife can read it when she is checking she has sufficient make up on to face the wildlife, nothing worse for a woman than to be facing a moose with her lipstick out of kilter.

Just as an adjunct to looking over my shoulder, here's a clue of just how much I pick nits. Sad, isn't it?

But the way many models are made these days, there is almost only the one way to go and that is to make your own paintkit from scratch, i.e. new wireframes and even (as in the example here) checkered inch tape to give a clue as to what's where. Add a nadged wrist that slows me down no end and these darned paints can go too far at times.

But hey, what else is there to do between flights?
