There is no reason to run a clean FSX install in XP compatibility mode.  FSX runs perfectly well in Windows 7 without any compatibility modes.  Windows 7 (64 bit) includes a 32 bit emulator so there is no problem for those that use the 64 bit version of Windows 7.

No just installed it into WIN7 using location C:/FSX.  XP Mode? not a clue?  Certainly not going to start over again though.

I am not as  computer literate as some of these esteemed folks here Spud, but if you wanted to try it, find your fsx.exe file, right click it, and choose 'run as Win XP.' I don't remember having to do that for FSX in Win 7 64 bit or not. I do know that after installing any ORBX or FSS software it tells me that the program was not installed correctly and re-install it with the recommended settings. I assume the recommended settings are Win XP settings...32 bit settings. I dunno...just trying to help. What else could be the problem on a new machine and a clean install? That's the million dollar question. Doesn't hurt to try. Troubleshooting 101.

The Windows message that says that a program may not have installed correctly has nothing to do with XP mode, 32 bit, etc. Read this:

http://technoladder.blogspot.com/2012/02/how-to-fix-warning-this-program-might.html

Running FSX as a 64 bit program doesn't matter. I have little addon somewhere on my system that allows 32 bit programs to bypass the memory limitations somewhere that I use. I'll see if I can locate it and report back.

OK, I found the link:
