Holger sort of warned me that the "object" was not too "exciting."  And they are not.  I did see an oil rig object in one of our object libraries. Maybe I should drag one out there and place it. If it is better, no reason we couldn't make our own oil field ... they have enough of them up there!

Oh yes, more oil rig = more fun

Hi Doug,
if is not too much work needed adding some of these better oil rig....that would be really amazing!!!!!!!

PS:
That means RTMM would produce it`s own gasoline for it`s flight operations?  Well, Exxon, Shell and all these oil producing companies...watch out RTMM is coming!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Yes, discounted fuel at MM-Ops!  Getting the right objects is the trick. Lets all keep our eyes open for anything different out there. Placing them is not a problem.  We can find where the real ones are.

Hi Doug,
Thought I'd mention a scenery package I have called "Alaskan Oilrigs for FSX" by the "MunchBros", if I've got it right.  It's freeware.  They are offshore of Kenai, approaching PANC.  They are right where yours are, well not "exactly" where yours are, but near them.

Sorry there's only one picture of a "rig" and it's probably one of yours, but I was on a "VAL" flight, and snapped some pics along the way to PANC.  Oh, picture #3 has one.  Enlarge the pic to see it better.

Hi Jeff... The ones In MmOps are all SAK. The objects are not so good, and they are not exactly where the kmz file says they should be, so I had a heck of a time finding them and giving them their correct name. Do the Munch Bros objects look better?  Maybe we could fix a switch?

Now THOSE look a lot better than the ones that came with SAK.  We may have to do some exploring with those folks and talk with Holger.  Klaus said the platforms are not so good to land on for the heli guys, if these are better, then it is worth looking into further. Thanks for the recheck.  On second thought, the simple thing would be to find the objects in SAK and do the "off" button, then add these and redo all the coordinates.  We need to get Klaus to give them a check and see what he thinks. I think both will be difficult to land on in a Beaver!!! :-)

I am very curious to know whether these very old FS2004 files are compatible with FSX/SAK.
I doubt a little bit.

Dieter

I also am skeptical Dieter but I did download the file and will see what it looks like at least.  Of course ORBX scenery has much more accurate shoreline depiction than either stock FSX or FS9 so if any rigs are near the shore they may end up on dry land.  The program uses an auto installer program which installs the files into FS9 which is BAD so don't make the mistake of using the default location for installation.  Use a temp. location and install it manually.  If I'm successful I'll put up a quick tutorial on how to install the rigs.  (Standby for more info later.)

Klaus,
don't use the auto installer, it install into FS9 not FSX.

Well concerning the FS9 oil rig scenery addressed above.  I tried a manual installation and while the rigs show on the FSX map I tried to take off from Trading Bay as the manual says.  This airport is an FS9 field that has severe elevations problems in FSX and really doesn't fit very well.
Now for the bad news.  With the rigs installed I can not check them out as FSX crashes after about 1 min of running.  Just goes back to the desktop with no error message or anything.  Not worth more of my time working with files that were not intended for FSX.  Rigs look better, at least the screen shots of them do but can't check them out as I said.

I had the same problems.
I did a Manual install. After firing up FSX and loading a saved Flight (PAMR), the sim shut down after 1 Minute or so. I did the same procedure two times again. The result was FSX shutting down 1 Minute after loading the flight.
After deleting the scenery from my system, FSX worked well again.
That`s sad, because wthe Pictures promised some really nice looking oilrigs.... :'(
