Add category for missions
« on: July 25, 2012, 07:40:03 AM »
I have put the missions in a new rtmm folder as instructed and can see them ok. I would like to also be able to select them via that folder. It looks as if you need to add it too the categories folder in the root of fsx. anyone know how to do this  >:(

Hi Jeff,

With me, this does not work. If I create a folder "Return to Misty Moorings" in the "Missions" folder of FSX, containing all missions RTMM, that folder, once launched FSX, does not appear in the missions. I find these various missions in "Backcountry" for RTMM Dispatch 1 and a "Just for fun" to others.

There are files that you need to install before it will work.  I sent those files to Doug, but he's on vacation right now.  So he can't upload them to the website for you to install.  Wait a little longer.

I'm sorry, I did not see that the screen was a "preview"  :-[
I will wait patiently, of course, for the return of Doug holidays, there is no hurry, missions work well  ;)

Doug is back!
The new category has been released in the updated missions.  Dispatch 1 is available now, but more will follow.  Download and REPLACE any existing missions of the same name with the new one.  You only need to install the category files the first time you install a "Return to Misty Moorings" mission.  After that, simply installing a mission folder into your Return to Misty Moorings mission folder (according to installation instructions) will be all that is required.

I wonder if anyone could help as I'm having the same problem as the OP.

I have both of the Dispatch Missions in my 'Return To Misty Moorings' folder, Microsoft Flight Simulator/Missions/Return To Misty Mooring/ and they work fine. I have placed, the maze, sunrise supply and wing and a prayer and for some reason they all show up under 'Just For Fun'.

I thought all I needed to do was unzip then drag and drop the file into my Misty folder for it to work?

I guess I must be doing something wrong somewhere? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Earl,
These missions in the 'Just for fun' category were uploaded before I suggested the guys make a separate category for MM.
It would be nice if these missions had the category changed and reuploaded.

To manually change the mission you need to change the GUID in the mission xml file, currently linked to 'Just for Fun', so it links to 'Return to Misty Moorings'.

Look for the MM.xml file and in it you will see the line
- <SimMissionUI.ScenarioCategory id="{BBECE236-C17D-40bc-929F-8CE3C4CB2D12}">
This is the GUID to copy for 'Return to Misty Moorings - {BBECE236-C17D-40bc-929F-8CE3C4CB2D12}

Next step is very important.
Open TheMaze.xml using a text editor like Notepad. Do not use a html editor.
Look for the following line just down a few rows from the top
<CategoryRef>{fee3b6ec-0606-42de-bc57-93583735b3ed}</CategoryRef>
This GUID is the one linked to 'Just for Fun'
Replace this GUID with the one listed in the MM.XML file above, save and close.
TheMaze.xml should now contain the line
<CategoryRef>{BBECE236-C17D-40bc-929F-8CE3C4CB2D12}</CategoryRef>

Restart FSX and try it.
If you have success change the other missions.

Good luck.

MM.xml is in the " . . .\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Categories" folder.   ;)

Thanks TreeTops, that worked spot on 8)

MM.xml is in the " . . .\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Categories" folder.   ;)

Thanks Jeff. I would probably have spent hours looking for it ;D

Now off to fly the maze and hopefully FSX won't crash just after I complete maze 9 >:(

Hmm, I thought we had updated the older files.  How did we miss that?  I'll work on a solution.
