AddOn Scenery / Misty's Place updated again
« on: November 18, 2017, 09:16:10 PM »
We are always fooling around with Misty's Place, hopefully making it a little better each time. The latest update puts the rotating beacon in line with the now-night-lighted water runway. The rocks that were at the north end of the runway are gone, and the land there is now flat. Trees were cut down on the approach.  So you have a much easier approach from the North.  The smoke was fixed for the Misty's Place buildings (where it had detached in V4.0+). The smoke at the lighthouse was fixed too.

After a long day out in the fjords, Returning to Misty Moorings is a real pleasure.  The latest update is on the scenery page, under "M".

Jeff, not too many data points, but I think this proves merit to what you are doing.

Help and Troubleshooting / Missing Wheels
« on: November 17, 2017, 08:31:15 PM »
Came back from Soule Landing ... only gone for the afternoon. Landed on the new water runway at Misty's Place, pulled up to the bar to go in and get a cold one ... and SOMEBODY STOLE THE WHEELS OFF ALL THE CARS!!!!  They are still looking for the perp!

If this happens to you, go to our FAQ page and look under "V" (Vehicles) ... and the fix is there to get some new tires! (thanks Rod for reminding me).

I'm feeling the same way. Every time I turn a corner, something different. In 4.1, no wheels on the cars at Misty's Place tonight ... I just put that rascal up there today ... oh well, that's why they call them UPdates! Going to put another one up tomorrow when I figure it out.

But we darned sure didn't need this windows problem. Dieter just warned me that supposedly there is another "Fall" update coming from Windows that could knock out 4.0 .. Maybe its time to turn of the automatic windows updates!

I figured it was Windows, I did everything I could here ... and everything was working FINE before that first update. This latest let us turn 3.4 back on, but it is really screwed up.  If they screw up "4" ... then we should all go back to FS2000 and fly SIRP! :-)  I could always crank up the old MistyMoorings site.

UPDATE: I found the wheels ... you can get a great deal on new tires to replace the missing ones by going to the RTMM FAQ page and looking under "V" (Vehicles) ... the fix is there for you. (Rod reminded me).

There is some GOOD new information here if you are having the "Child Window" problem with P3D V3.4.  It's not us, Windows has struck again:

If anyone is interested, I have found a way to use IS3 (barely) with V3.4 (until they have a fix of some kind). It is clunky, but it works. Let me know if you want it.

Off Topic - Polls are cool, but we don’t do many of them and folks (even me) don’t understand the protocol. I removed my earlier post. It was about shockwave so was on topic. When we start a poll, how about in our first comment, we state the reason for the poll and the responses we expect? We’ll get the hang of this. This thread is a reminder of this important tool...and we should use it more. Often I have questions to the community, great way to get the response. So being off topic, please no comments back in this. Let’s focus on the poll...the information is important to us. (hey!)

Prepar3D-Version 4 / Re: Smoke at Misty Moorings
« on: November 15, 2017, 02:03:29 PM »
That's a good idea, and appreciated. But the other thing I am doing is flying all of the locations (using the RTMM Flight folder).  The reason for this is not just the smoke, but looking for any other problems that I might spot in 4.1. Thank you for the idea though.

As an update, I have IS3 working ... I did it with virtual bailing wire ... but it is working. I worked on Misty's Place this morning and have the new file out to QC (Spud and Norm). When they give it a "go" I'll post it.  I fixed the smoke problems, re-positioned the water runway lights, got rid of the rocks at the north end of the runway, eliminated some flashing buoys, took out the cabin and put a new one in with the new "Smoke Bomb" as we are calling it. (This is an object Rod built for us ... a black ball, that we can "place" where we want smoke. It is not affected by 4.1 or altitude.

So if this all goes ok, I'll be starting on the "workshop log" in earnest.

Well it fixed the P3D V3.4 ... still is not working correctly, and IS3 sure isn't right yet. Can't figure out why it didn't fix "both" ... I'm waiting for others to discuss it on the forums. V3.4 will be giving you "Child Window" errors.  These happen when you try to save a scenario or a flight plan, etc. So something is still wrong. This new update didn't fix it.

Thank you ... my sound did come back on, so that works now (3 restarts), but the child window error is still there. Where I saw someone talking about it, it had to do with the joystick. Mine works fine, no problems. The only problem I seem to have is the IS3 won't work.

Per my News Notam:

New Win 10 Update released 1:26pm 11.14.2014
Update KB4048955

Good News:  This is the update we've been waiting for. Prepar3d V3.5 now starts up without a CTD, and is fly-able.

Bad News: There is a new error (Error creating Child Window ... attached).  Not sure what that error means yet. Another MAJOR problem is when you initiate IS3 (Instant Scenery 3), the whole thing crashes to desktop. I've got a trouble ticket in to Flight1 on this problem.

Bottom line ... we are not "back in business" yet with Scenery development and re-configuration for V4.1.  Sorry, we just have to wait until THEY get THEIR ducks in a row! I'll keep you posted.

I thought I would make a thread on this so you can add any information you come across on this subject.

Update: Re-Installing Instant Scenery 3 does not fix the problem. It begins to loading process for IS3, then just quits. Windows event log says faulting app is P3D, faulting path is MSVCR120.dll.

Steve is correct. Not sure if we added smoke to that one or not. Nontheless, I've put it onto the workshop log ... I have to fix a Brad's BBQ at that location ... nearby. I'll look at both at the same time.  Thanks again.

I've added the lighthouse at Misty's Place (smoke problem).   Thank you.  The list is (unfortunately) really growing.  Tomorrow we are promised the Windows update for 10, if it comes, we'll be back in business with P3D V3.5 and Instant Scenery 3 ... then we'll go to work on these things.  I'm going to do some other things at Misty's place, you can see those on the log. I'll probably get Misty's Place fixed up first to make sure we're back in scenery development business, then jump into fixing all the smoke problem.  Appreciate your good eye.

Prepar3D-Version 4 / The CIRP Hovercraft is Back!
« on: November 13, 2017, 07:23:01 PM »
Coming soon to your harbor and hangar ... the CIRP Hovercraft is once again almost operational. Rod has poured the magic dust over the model and it has risen from the grave with gusto!  It now heads to Jeff so he can tear the engine apart and put it back together again. A little more work to do, but soon you'll have the two vehicles, the CIRP Stalwart and the CIRP Hovercraft you need for enjoying the glaciers.
