Title: Texture/Mesh Issues around CEX4?
Post by: RCFlyer on September 12, 2018, 01:07:47 PM
Anyone noticed texture/mesh issues around CEX4?  I am flying MFC0020 Yukon and have noticed several odd looking ground structures around CEX4.  The odd looking structures appear as large plateaus with white mottled looking sides or holes with the vertical sides looking mottled white with the bottoms looking like the normal terrain.  I am using Orbx scenery and P3DV4.3.

CEX4/Carmacks is just a few miles outside of Orbx SAK boundary. Therefore the problem is not caused by Orbx software.
I checked my scenery and I also see same problems. I'm running P3D v4.3 and I have openLC North America active.
At this time I have my mesh deactivated. Will check with mesh later.

After activating my FS Global 2010 FTX mesh the landscape problems have disappeared but the airfield doesn't look well.

Don't see any real landscape issues at CEX4 ... Indeed a bleak little airport - just a runway and a few towers (3) along on the roadway on the north side.
(Pic 1 with No Mesh running) >> (*Notice that there is No cliffs on the south side of the runway- just forest).

With Mesh running, makes no difference to the actual airport but to the south side of the runway now have some cliff elevation. (pics 3 and 4).

(CEX4 - Enabled in Vector)

Interesting issue.

With Orbx OpenLC North America enabled the airport has no cliffs at its edge, but, the odd terrain issues are around.

With Orbx OpenLC North America disabled and Freemesh North America enabled there are cliffs next to the runway, but, the odd terrain issues are gone.

With both enabled the cliffs are next to the runway, but, the odd terrains issues are gone.

I took a look at CEX4 via Google Earth.  The really airport is located on the side of the road toward the river, while in the sim it is located on the opposite side of the road.  GoogleEarth does show cliffs/ridges close to where the sim airport is located.  I bet if the airport were moved to the correct side of the road the "cliffs" would change to ridges/hills.  I believe the cliffs are caused by the flattening of the airport bgl.

Is CEX4 a Misty generated airport?

CEX4 is just a default sim airport and not RTMM generated - So we can blame it on the developers of the sim itself.lol.

I placed a comment about CEX4 on the P3D forum.
