Hey, welcome aboard! Let us know if you get stuck...we want this to be the best experience you’ll have with the sim. It takes a little effort, but the end game, breathtaking low and slow flying, is worth the effort.

I use Prepar3d v4.1, and it is much better than FSX if you've got the system for it.  (Win10 64-bit)

I use FSX DX10, with Windows 7 and am very happy with it. It runs and looks great for me. No complaints.

I use Win 10 and P3Dv4.x.

Anyways, great to have you aboard and welcome.

There are many choices:

FSX w/Accel
FSX for Steam
P3D versions 1-4
... and probably others too, I've forgotten about ... and some we don't support.  Aerofly FS 2 and X-Plane 11, and ???

What you choose depends on your budget and interest in simming.  Upgrading your operating system as well as your sim is costly.  I figure around $300 if your machine is already capable.  Do you have the space on your HDD, or do you need a new SSD?  Cha-ching!!   ;D  Much to consider ...  :-\

Welcome, Marcel.

Actually, P3Dv3.4 or P3Dv4.1 are the best choices for P3D.  Not sure we have any staff left with P3Dv3.1 or v3.2.  Too many issues with P3Dv2 and P3Dv1.

I run P3Dv3.4 on Windows 7 no problem.

Marcel ... I'm running 4.1 and 3.4 ... there are a few of us brave souls on the rather dangerous technical frontier.  Running into some aggravations but mostly this is because we are going to the 64 bit program, Windows 10 has added to some of the problems. If you are going to do any scenery design work, I'd stick with V3.4. I have to have it on my system for scenery design, but I "fly" 4.1 for my personal pleasure.  When you move to 4+ things start to break for scenery design (Instant Scenery, ADE 1.75 (that only works with 4.0+), etc.

But there is some good news too.  If you are just a dedicated simmer, not playing with scenery design, etc ... then I'd highly recommend 4.1. It uses all your computer's cores, it is smooth as silk, you can crank up the scenery higher than you could before. You'll see a lot of discussion about all the "problems" ... but those are not with V4.1 ... these are problems with the associated programs ... and work-arounds are being made for those.

No matter what choice you make, we are here to help you through the transition. We want you to make Misty's Place your home so you can always Return to Misty Moorings!

Hello Marcel,
welcome to RTMM!! Have fun exploring the RTMM world...,.

I‘m running p3dv4.1 and I like it because it supports native VR mode......I‘m one of the helicopter drivers here and VR is beautiful for a low and funny helo-ride...... ;D

Doug,
Not sure what you mean by ADE 1.75 only works with P3D4.0+. Actually, it's backwards compatible with all FSX based simulators and even FS2004.

Thank you Doug.

I am more a simmer, never done something with making scenery.

I'm going to have a look after the holidays for P3D. Now too busy with my work.
But already flying to some nice destinations. And just having fun  ;)

Helicopters and me are not a good combi. Always crashing with them  :-\
But in the new year who knows. Maybe 2018 wil be a helicopter learning year  ::)
