Title: P3D-V4 Web Page - (Help us build it)
Post by: Doug on July 10, 2017, 03:55:12 PM
Many people are going to be converting to P3D V4 (and many are going to stay with what they have). With the new 64 bit platform, there will be specific changes and probably a few hurdles. Also with a brand new program like this, it will have its growing pains as it develops into a solid platform.

I'm going to start putting together a Web Page specifically designed for RTMM and P3D V4.  At this point I envision it like a FAQ page. There will be a list of Frequently Asked Questions and (hopefully) the best answers we can get.  There are also some special things we may have to do to make some of the AI models work. Rod is working on such a project for the RTMM community. A package like his will be posted on the new page so everyone moving to or already using P3D V4 can have access to it.

Personally, I am still using P3D V3 ... so I too have many questions about the conversion, literally, where do you start and how do you do it.  I know already from what others have said that Tongass X will have to be specially installed ... how ... what are the steps?  These are the kinds of things I hope to document on the new page.

For now, the page doesn't yet exist, so no need to look for it. It will first show up in the Beta Area (at the bottom of the Scenery Page). But first, we need to ask the questions, or have folks who are already using it share their conversion/update experiences, etc.  From this discussion, I'll start moving the questions and answers over to the new page. When done, if someone wants to run RTMM on P3D-V4, if they go to this page, everything they will need to know will be right there for them, step by step. (At least that's the goal!).

So for those using P3D V4, share your conversion experiences here. For those of you wondering whether or not conversion is worth the effort, ask your questions here.

I'll start with a couple of basic questions. (Pile on!)

1. I have P3D-V3 and am moving to V4. What are the initial steps after I purchase the program? (How do I install the ORBX programs (PFJ, etc).

2. Can I move my scenery over to V4 from P3D V3? How?

3. What is the process for installing Tongass X in P3D-V4?

How to move Tongass Fjords to P3Dv4 (an excellent tutorial by Elaine Dixon ("Poppet") who is an
excellent technical writer.

https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/491556-installing-tongass-fjords-x-prepar3d-v3-v4/

The Orbx regions have been released for P3Dv4 and can be installed from FTX Central.
Questions related to Orbx can be viewed on their site...

I have copied Yes Bay, Halibut, Eddystone Rock and Taku Lodge  to my Addon Scenery folder and
they work just fine. I also copied Ketchikan Harbor over with no problem.  All the float and ship traffic works.

The sky is not falling.

 8) Object Flow for the OrbX airports is in beta testing according to JV. Airports should be ready soon, but not quite yet. The new FTX Central recognizes P3D 4, and will handle your OrbX installs for you.
OzX is 98% ready, a new object library for P3D 4 is almost ready. Most OzX works now, anthing that doesn't will be fixed by the new library.
Everything I have from RTMM works fine in P3D4.

Henrik Nielson's Global AI Ship Traffic has been updated: V1 and V2. *In v2, 4 models were fixed so this v1 and v2 package is all good for use in Prepar3dv4.

Just got the OK to use the Lockheed Martin info on the new page. The temporary link to it can be found at the bottom of the scenery page in the beta table. If you see things that should be added to it, let us know.

Hi All
Happy to add my info
Running P3Dv4,3.4 and FSX
Putting new RTMM Sceneries into P3Dv4 as they arise and trying them out
Tsylos Lodge onwards-all OK except don't have runway lighting in Scar Creek Lodge and Tsunia Lodge-difficult night flying!
I never managed Tongass X into P3D so that is missing-too technical for me!
RTMM Tester shows all the rest of libraries in place
RTMM Season Switcher renamed 3.31 for P3Dv4 version -seems to work
Got Flight Replica Bushplanes into v4 plus a working GPS
Like to use v4 installers so going slowly
V4 seems very steady-using Frooglesims settings plus PTA
But often sims work well with few entries-they will show their real mettle as they get loaded up!
Onwards and upwards!

Hello,

ORBX Global Vector is updated to P3d v4.
You can install it from your FTX Central3 control panel.

Great idea Doug,

1. Are the ORBX regions compatible?  YES
2. What about the ORBX airports? Wait
3. What about OZx? OK
4. What about our AI addons like the region shipping traffic and the Ketchikan AI boats, garbage scow, fishing fleet, etc?
5. Animated objects like the Seagulls, dolphins, Tongass has different animated birds, UKVFR has animated construction equipment, etc. will they cause a CTD? Do they need a conversion?

FYI -     I have animated birds in v4.  I can't verify that all animations work, but I have seen birds.  I will keep an eye out for other animated objects in my travels, but I think they are ok too.

Brad

The UKVR animated construction equipment was converted to FSXP3D format and should work without problems. If Jeff sees the birds without issues then I'm 99% confident that all of the animated objects from our libraries that have been placed into RTMM scenery will work, (as well as the objects contained in the default libraries that come packaged with FSX and P3D.)

The pilotable versions of the CIRP hovercraft and stalwart vehicle don't work in P3D v4 (model is invisible in the aircraft selection screen, indicating it is not a native FSX model). I therefore suspect that the AI CIRP hovercraft will be incompatible. The pilotable air boat works, but for some reason I had no engine sound (this might be because I had it installed outside of the main P3D v4 folder).

For the RTMM Effects files, I had to manually add "Ground Decal=1" to all the ship wake and wave effects immediately below the parameter "Ground Normal=1".

Hi all,
Concerning the SceneryConfigEditor in version 4.  There has been an update.  I tried to use the 1.1.7 version in P3dv4, but it had incompatibility issues.  So I went searching the "SourceForge.net" site for an update.
They are now up to version 1.1.9, and I just tested it.  It is good to have the scenery config editor back.  ;)

     Go get your update!   8)
