Nice screenshots! Looks like Doug is pretty creative with the stuff around the cabins. I wouldn't have thought to put half if the stuff that he has there ::)

Thank you all. Well, I try to imagine "living" there. What would I need, what would I like it to look like from the "porch", etc. If you get in the "Bob" mode and walk around, it is easy to see where there should be a bush or a tree that doesn't block the view, etc.

Don't forget, as part of our process, there is a "start-up position" for all of the locations on the Here2There page on the start-up table. And of course all the new ones are added to the ne GoTo table.  Part of the fun of all of this is finding a neat "geographical place" to put something.  On the new Hidden Inlet, I found just such a place. An amazing valley that you can do a U turn in.

Pretty places. Fly them at sunset, that's my favorite time. All the navigational lights are "on" as well as the street lights, etc.

If you find a special place that gives a good "journey" ... let me know. There are thousands of them in this beautiful scenery we have.

Doug, it sounds like you are looking for a project. I've been trying to get the folks at ORBX to take on one, but so far nothing. You did Hawaii, how about Ocracoke Island, NC? Before you think or say no, take a look at the Island. A quaint little fishing village that has turned from a fisherman's paradise into a tourist attraction as well. It is a lot like some of the other places you guys have done in Alaska, but summer fun. Give it a good look, I think you will agree it would be fun.

At RTMM, we try to stay in SAK, TFX, PFJ and PNW. Sometimes, someone will work in the area near the pipeline that is covered by ORBX Global and Vector, but we try not to stray far from the pipeline. Dougs Hawaii (EFMM) was pretty special, but the whole island chain was done. This way, you can fly "here to there" between the islands.

Someone might be able to work on the islands a little and release it on somewhere like Avsim, but you would have to do some encouraging.

What do you want done to it? I would be glad to add a couple of objects to a seaplane base or if there is an airport, fix up the taxiways or something, and add some objects at the airport there, but if you want photo real with autogen annotation, new vector and mesh, you're looking in the wrong place.  :)

     Hi BBQSteve,
I do realize you're talking to Doug, but Ryan is right.  RTMM is centered around the "Misty Fjords" National Monument and the general Alaskan coastal areas.  North Carolina is so very far away.
It sounds like a nice project, but not related to RTMM in the slightest sense.  Doug or someone else could do it as a side project.  (or you could, eh?)   ???   8)   ;)

Very nice screenies, Handie.  Thanks for posting them.  The sites look wonderful.  Thank you, Doug.   8)

Handie,
these are beautiful pictures.....thank you for sharing!

Doug,
The cabins look beautiful....thank you.
I love them. It's some kind back to the roots adding these smell jewels to Misty's "Homeland".
I have been flying in the BWEP area in the past months.....now I took a break and I returned to Misty's and enjoy flying the mistyHawk there.

I agree with Jeff in that it sounds like a good project that maybe Steve could volunteer to do to in order to give back to the community. I'm sure we have lots of tourist attraction type objects in our massive library collection that would fit into the theme. I'm pretty sure there's a Ferris Wheel in one of the default FSX libraries.

What might be interesting is to divide the project into chunks and have multiple people work on it together.  If we go any further with the Ocracoke discussion, we may want to start a new thread for it :)

Steve, don't worry too much about "giving back"  :D After all, you made the whole basis that RTMM sits on.  8)

They're two Steves!  Steve was talking to BBQSteve.   ;)

Ryan, that's why you should be doing your English composition home work instead of playing around with flight sims. Haha. Just kidding.

Hi guys,

If somebody is interested in doing side projects out of the usual RTMM territories and for everyone to enjoy, why not showcase and introduce objects and/or augment structures (whether real or fictional) among the famous national parks or landmarks in the US and Canada like Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Banff, etc. ? Imagine the awesome aerial views on most of these especially those covered by ORBX but might take several years to cover all.. Of course, it's better to start from those within Alaska and other familiar areas covered by RTMM already until the interest and momentum gets it going to develop the other areas.. Just a few cents... ;)

Here's link of the top 10 most visited national parks in the North America.. http://www.worldatlas.com/articles/10-most-visited-national-parks-in-the-united-states-and-canada.html

:-) ... you folks are TEMPTING!   But alas, I'm not gonna' bite! :-)  I looked at the NC site, that would have been fun. But the major problem is that these places all have local architecture and our objects are basically water objects and cabins/camping, etc.  Hawaii I could do because I stuck to water areas.

So I think I'm going to pass on anything outside our RTMM area for now. We need to keep all these on the back burner for "maybe sometime" ... but right now, I think we'll stick with our original area.

SAK and HAWAII were enought "outside" for us for a while.

But thanks to all for the suggestions ... maybe sometime.

Doug

Have to agree with Doug.  For one thing most of our scenery involves lonesome cabins and small settlements etc. which, unless they were already located in the area of a National Park, are prohibited from being built and/or being occupied by law.  There are some scenery in Parks etc. like Yosimite Vally etc. but these reflect real world already existing locations.

Dang guys! I thought for sure this little island would have stirred your creative jukces. Especially since the village is so much like many places you have done. Anyway, thanks for looking. Hopefully you'll get bored and try something different soon!   :'(

Ah, but the juices were stirred!  But when you go to "Google" and really look around that place, we could not have done it "justice" with the objects we've got. It is a whole different and beautiful object set. I've never been there and I enjoyed my virtual tour.

Have you mentioned this in other forums (Avsim, SOH, FlightSim)? It looks like a nice project. I'm sure if you took pictures, someone might look into it more than just a request. Make sure you take some pictures of the airport and harbor, as those are the most needed. I would work on it a little, but I got some RTMM projects to finish up first. If you want, you can download ADE (Airport Design Editor) and maybe fiddle around with the airport a little bit. If you need any help on ADE (I can compile for you), I would be glad to help ;)

ryapad,

Just arrived on the Island. I will get as many pictures as I can this visit. Some direction as to what is needed, like sides or just face of buildings, houses, shops, etc. Airport is pretty easy. Lake harbor area, ferry landings CG station are somewhat a problem because of relative location of me and objects, but I'll give it my best try.

Thanks for the interest.

Steve,
according to the Census there are only 948 people on Ocracoke Island just snap a 'pitcher' of everybody!!!

Steve, when we develop, we use google maps. So, maybe take a look at google and see what is different, and then take your pictures. Airports are the most important because that is when the plane is on the ground, but if you see a Ferris wheel or a big landmark like that, maybe mark it's location on the map and snap a picture. Most importantly, have fun out there, and don't get caught up trying to take pictures :) Only about 10 pictures are needed at most.

There are probably 948 permanent/semi permanent residence on the Island. I think yesterday all 948 were on the beach fishing!

I have tried to gather basic landmark places here. Funny story, yesterday at the airport a guy and his family just landed and were unloading baggage from their plane. I was just walking out on the tarmac as they passed. As I was taking pictures, he came back out and asked me if I was from the FAA. He said he had to make an unusually low VFR approach because of the 18 mph crosswinds and was concerned someone had complained. He looked a little pale and his family of four as well.

Any how, having a great time and trying to get some persuasive photos!   ;D

The FAA is always watching! Be careful out there... ;D

Maybe we should continue this elsewhere?

After looking at Google Earth, I guess my photos aren't required, except maybe for the airport.

Where would you like them?
